We were promised a surprise DC Comics panel during DC FanDome, and that came our way with confirmation that acclaimed screenwriter is indeed set to pen a new Batman series.

He will team with artist Nick Derington (Doom Patrol) for the four-issue miniseries that launches next January, and it promises to reinvent the Caped Crusader in some surprises ways. "I think it's a pretty safe bet that if I'm writing Batman, it’s probably a little better than a 47% chance he’s going to be a person of color," Ridley said, confirming it won't be Bruce Wayne in the suit.

Interestingly, the series is set to focus on the family of Lucius Fox, head of Wayne Enterprises, so chances are it will be a Fox who dons the cape and cowl. "But he [Fox] has a family and this is a family that has secrets, has kept secrets from one another. It’s a little bit different dynamic than the Batman that we've always seen."

Bear in mind that at the start of "The New 52" reboot, Bruce Wayne trained Luke Fox to be Batwing, so it's possible we'll finally get to see him return, albeit as Batman this time. It's previously been reported that the series will have ramifications for the wider line of Batman titles in the DC Universe.

Ehhh i don't know about this chief.

I've read some pretty shitty ass rumors over at BC.
For those that don't know, this was originally part of that Didio's masterplan 5G storyline event.

But then he got fired and well...adieu.

@Doomsday8888 - Should just do it as an imprint like Marvel's ultimate universe, fans keep their classic characters. people will be willing to check out 5g and if it gets a good reception, more will check it out

@dracula
Yeah i woulnd't mind that.

But they recently revealed that this story will actually have an impact on the rest of the line (Bat-line?) and...i'm kinda worried...

@Doomsday8888 - Remember though, with all those recent firings by AT&T, DC can't afford to take too many more risks. Any status quos that fans hate, will just result in lower sales, and more firings.

@Doomsday8888 - Does anybody know what happened in the surprise DC Comics panel? Was it this?

Just take the plans for 5G and make an imprint, that way fans can have the old character and people will be open to checking out 5g and if it gets a good reception, more will check it out

I think Ridley's a really good writer, so I'm excited to see his take on a Luke Fox Batman mini-series

@tmp3 - Should be interesting, although is there really any reason to make him Batman, like Luke Fox is his own hero, Batwing, like outside of the name, what is really going to be all that different than Batwing. His comic lasted a decent run (long enough to have 2 different batwings)

@dracula - I mean, Bruce Wayne is still Batman lol. This is just an interesting new take on the character

@Rocket616 - No. I'm just not on this site that much.

Conner Hawke is a perfect example of what I mean. He was a new character introduced to take over as GA. People actually liked him but once Ollie came back he was thrown under the bus and basically doesn't even exist in comics at this point about. And that's a disservice to the character.

Now I will admit that re-reading the article the fact it's likely Luke Fox as Batman means the character will likely just go back to being Batwing once this is over. Which that's cool.
I'd like to see Luke get more exposure as Batwing where he can build a name for himself.

I wonder what the Black Adam panel is gonna have, its 20 min compared to the Flashes 10 minutes, but they haven't filmed anything so idk what they would have

@DannRamm113 - The Rock went all out from the teases. Full cast announcement I'm guessing, and some more concept art. Also all of it set in a fully rendered, CGI ancient Egypt just to show off lol

And they wonder why sales are down.

A former Robin should the only replacement for Batman.

@marvel72 - plus how will making Luke Fox Batman be any different than just keeping him as Batwing. Not like his comic failed, had a good run, long enough to have 2 different batwings

@TheUnworthyThor - Jean Paul Valley was good at being Batman but I didn't like the costume, maybe because of the art.

Anyway he was the wrong because Batman had to stop him.

@marvel72 - We saw what it did for Black Panther. If they market it right, they have an audience ready. Now it just needs to be strong enough to capture everyone's attention
