BATMAN: THREE JOKERS Reportedly Getting A Sequel At DC Comics From Geoff Johns And Jason Fabok

Batman: Three Jokers put a completely different spin on the Dark Knight's relationship with the Clown Prince of Crime, and it's now said that a sequel is in the works from Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok...

Bleeding Cool, a reliable source for comic book news, is reporting that a one-shot sequel is in the works for Batman: Three Jokers. That was the biggest selling title of 2020, and it sounds like the plan is for this story to be firmly integrated into whatever form DC Comics continuity is taking now.

The site describes that as the "DC Omniverse," with plans for a special issue in March set to explain the status quo of the DC Universe over the coming years (it's not another reboot...we think!).

The site explains, "We know very little about it save for two words, and this may speak to its place in the aforementioned DC Omniverse. Those words? 'Batman Universe.'" It certainly makes sense for there to be some sort of follow-up as Three Jokers ended with a plot of dangling plot threads.

At the end of the series [SPOILERS], Batman revealed that he's been keeping an eye on the Clown Prince of Crime's wife and son (from The Killing Joke), while the villain also confirmed that he knows the secret identities of the entire Bat-Family. There were also some hints that romance could be in the cards for Jason Todd and Barbara Gordon in the not too distant future.

It's certainly going to be interesting seeing what form this Three Jokers spinoff takes, and how it sets up more stories for these characters as DC Comics enters a new era of storytelling.

We'll keep you guys updated!

I'm not feeling this whole three Jokers thing. But then again, after 75+ years of Batman comics, they gotta do something new.

Well it better serve as a better ending than what we got. Why start the whole three jokers thing if you're going to end it in such an insignificant manner?

@braunermegda - IDK most people seemed to have enjoyed it. And it sold really well so there's that

Overall, I enjoyed a couple ideas and moments in it a lot - but it just proved to me that the whole 3 jokers premise is just unnecessary. Had it just focused on the Trauma of Batman/Barbara/Jason with the Joker - I feel like it could have been a lot stronger, basically a good version of Heroes in Crisis. The whole Joker making Bruce "forgive" Joe Chill and his motivation for doing that was pretty solid in both the idea and the execution with how it fitted thematically with other parts of the book. But it also just came out of nowhere, which sucks because the book had solid moments but lacked focus i'd say?

Anyways, more Fabok art so wooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

It felt like even Johns stopped paying attention to what he was writing by the end of the second issue.

@Reeds2Much - Yeah I think I sort of agree. It sort of felt like:
Issue #1 - Lemme represent the trauma of three batfamily members through a Joker
Issue #2 - Ummm.... maybe let me do something else, I'll figure it out later
Issue #3 - Oh shit I have to wrap up this story, wait, here's a cool motivation for the 'main' joker and that Joe Chill thing I set up earlier

Had it just threw away the three joker thing, and focused on the themes of trauma it set up earlier with Barbara and Jason, as well as keep in that last bit with Joker creating an elaborate scheme to make Bruce come to terms with Joe Chill so he could be the main thing that haunts me, I think it would have been a bit better imo. Wasn't awful as is I think, an enjoyable narrative, but bogged down by the three jokers approach and lacked focus.

I don't even mind the three jokers thing, it was actually them knowing each other's identities that kinda took away the mystic for me. I don't think a sequel is necessary, but we'll see what they'll cook up next

@bkmeijer - Well blame Scott Snyder for that then, it wasn't this comic that started that

Wasn’t a fan of it. Johns isn’t an idiot but he’s bringing this to a point where it will ultimately devalue the Joker’s mystique. Giving him too much background.

Makes sense I suppose it probably sold really well, I actually didn't hate Three Jokers as much as everyone else has seemed to (I enjoyed it more for the character study rather than the "shocking twists" that came from it).

I still find it kind of odd that in the actual story that they grouped the new-52 Joker into a part of The Killing Joke version of the Joker when they had originally teased that they were separate characters; maybe that's something that could be answered in the sequel I don't know.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - "(I enjoyed it more for the character study rather than the "shocking twists" that came from it)"

Agree with you there. There's a solid amount of great ideas that were executed well throughout the three issues, but the overall lack of focus kinda hurt it.

There was a variant cover with Snyders Joker so I assumed he'd be in there somewhere, but guess that it's for the better that he wasn't

The normalization of mediocrity. Geoff Johns is specializing in stupid, inferior sequels.
