Earlier this week, it was revealed that the DC Universe's new Superman, Jon Kent, is bisexual. The 17-year-old superhero is getting a boyfriend in reporter Jay Nakamura, and fans already disappointed that Clark Kent isn't the current Man of Steel aren't exactly on board with this development. 

Many believe it's a bold step forward for DC Comics in terms of diversity, while others feel it's little more than a publicity stunt meant to generate headlines for a publisher that's been struggling with sales for some time (especially so soon after Tim Drake/Robin was also revealed to be bisexual). 

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Supergirl actor Dean Cain definitely isn't a fan, and he made his feelings known during an appearance on Fox & Friends (via The Hollywood Reporter). 

"They said it’s a bold new direction, I say they’re bandwagoning," the controversial 55-year-old actor said. "Robin just came out as bi - who’s really shocked about that one? My daughter in [The CW series] Supergirl, where I played the father, was gay. So I don’t think it’s bold or brave or some crazy new direction. If they had done this 20 years ago, perhaps that would be bold or brave."

"Brave would be having him fighting for the rights of gay people in Iran where they’ll throw you off a building for the offense of being gay. They’re talking about having him fight climate change and the deportation of refugees, and he’s dating a hacktivist - whatever a hactivist is."

Cain went on to say he believes Superman should "fight the injustices that created the refugees whose deportation he’s protesting," "the new warm and fuzzy Taliban," and "human trafficking."

While there is a live-action Jon Kent in Superman & Lois, there's currently no indication that The CW plans to out that version of the character as bisexual. There's also no word on whether Titans' Tim Drake will be portrayed in this way - a  sign, perhaps, that Superman and Robin's sexuality will be explored more on the page than on television or film for the time being.

@TheFinestSmack - Agreed. Let's get past the pink hair that's not unusual for a Jay Nakamura type, or the fact that it's just his Lois. I don't care at this point socially and since it's a newer character it's kinda a blank canvas of sorts in terms of development. I just wonder if this contributes to him snapping in the future. I seem to remember that being alluded to in the comics

@bkmeijer - that gif encapsulates why I hated that show. You gotta tiptoe! Just to tell the truth! I’m a black Cuban living in Mississippi and I put my mixed children in the school full of country white kids instead of the one full of black kids. Now if that’s all I say, there will be outrage, I put them in the one full of white kids because they got picked on by the black kids, for being mixed! The white kids ain’t pickin on em.

On to a happier not related subject, I met this freckly white girl, super fine, from Miami, had the Miami Cuban accent, man that made her 10 times hotter

That said, all I remember from my trip to Miami is traffic jams. Only thing that was hot was the broken AC

@bkmeijer - yep the black kids called them white and picked on em. Not that there’s no black kids at all in this new school, in fact my kids are friends with black and white kids. My oldest son, 6’ 245 lbs in 10th grade, defensive end, is best friends with the lil Spanish Waterboy. When I say mixed, I mean I’m a black Cuban/Honduran and my ex is half white half Cuban, so our kids just look mixed. The kids at the new school love em.

Last time I went was the first time in 20 years, didn’t really see women that blew me away, of course they all did when I was 20, but dang the iguanas in the canals were super cool. But nah this white chick is too fine, I know better than that, when too many guys like a girl, dude you have to be on point at all times, Because there’s a long line waiting for you to mess up. Love that accent though

@bkmeijer - My oldest daughter is mixed creole (French & Black for anyone that does not know) and white, she was always picked on by the black kids when she was in school for not being "dark enough" They used to call her creamy coffee and she ated it.. f'ing brutal..

@bkmeijer - yes they can. These days some of the black parents are outraged with white people, some of them if not most are outright racist. That is going to influence their kids and those kids are going to influence the other kids. Can you imagine a day where black people are straight up racist? That’s what the media is helping to come about.

It’s funny cuz I showed my black bro n law a pic of a black girl I went on a date with a few weeks ago and a blonde white girl I started talking to last night, and he said “exact opposite” 😂 dang it man ain’t no latinas around here, just ones that are married. @Demigods - when I say this I’m not trying to put words in bkmeijer’s mouth, but if I get Falcon’s meaning, Falcon agrees with the point being said but does not think the person saying it should be able to say it. Because that person is white. I think it’s the unfortunate but natural progression of censoring bad things, you end up censoring everything. Put it like this. Negro is black in Spanish. It was simply a description. When the American settlers that were slavers used it, it was derogatory cuz why not just say black like your own language? Then it morphed into the n word, 1 million percent derogatory. Then fast forward. Even black people used it all be it with an accent that practically changes the spelling. So from Spanish to white peoples to black people. So black then said it’s their word and others can’t say it. As a black Cuban from new Orleans I encountered this, when I moved to Mississippi. I said the n word all the time. Black white and Spanish kids all did in NO. It was like saying dude. But I’m Mississippi I encountered black kids that didn’t want me to say it, and white kids that said it in a mean way. So I stopped. Fast forward some more. Now there are actual conversations that you can’t have. It’s one thing for a word to be a curse word. It’s another for someone to agree with you, and you say they’re out of line cuz they can’t relate due to who they are and what they look like. I understand emotions over past and present injustice but dang to be aggravated when someone AGREES with you, that’s like, I don’t know. It’s like saying no I don’t want to heal, I want to hurt. And you know what happens when you want to keep hurting? You eventually hurt others.

What a load of rubbish, repurposing classic characters like Siperman just stinks. If they want to have a gay character great but create a new one, be original and don’t drag a character like Superman into it expecting long time fans to embrace gayness when otherwise they would not have. Write an amazing new character that people want to read and get peoples attention that way, far better in the long run. Really dumb idea DC….
