STAN LEE on DC Films, BLACK WIDOW in DAREDEVIL, and His Excitement For Spidey in the MCU

Listen to Marvel's former president have a laugh at their rival's cinematic plans, and him talking about one of his original creations coming home, and their original plans for DAREDEVIL.

During a certain Gillette/Stark Industries event at Boston, Toronto Sun got to catch up on Stan "The Man" Lee, veteran writer and fromer president of Marvel, and what he thinks of DC's progress with their own cinematic universe.

"DC, of course, is trying to catch up to Marvel. More power to them. It's good if everybody does well, but they're certainly starting from a ways back."

Dude's got a point...

"Marvel has so many heroes. DC just has Superman, Batman and maybe Wonder Woman. Perhaps they'll use The Flash. Green Lantern wasn't very successful, but we'll see."

And I thought you knew your history, Stan!

On Spidey joining the MCU, Stan was nothing but excited to finally see one of his own original creations becoming an Avenger.

“I think it’s one of the best things to happen! It means now SPIDER-MAN will be part of the team, in the Avengers, or however else they want to use him. Now he’ll be able to appear in AVENGERS 3, or any of our other movies. It’s going to be great!”

And on what he has to say about DAREDEVIL, his other classic creation:

“I wanted to do that many years ago, but at the time the people who owned (Marvel) were very foolish. There was a beautiful actress who wanted to play BLACK WIDOW alongside DAREDEVIL in the TV show. I forget her name, but she was gorgeous; you’d know her.

I came to the person who at the time was the CEO of Marvel and I said, ‘We have a chance to do this as a series.

And this idiot said, ‘If it bombs, that’ll hurt the character.’

And I said, ‘If that was the case we’d never do anything.

He didn’t want to do it, but the idea of putting these characters on TV and the movies is wonderful

The biggest thing I took away from the link is that Big Hero 6 might have a sequel.

But what he's saying is true. DC is FINALLY utilizing their superhero properties because Marvel is having success with theirs. That's why we need to root for Marvel AND DC. They need each other to thrive.

As much as I like Superman and Batman, it's their plans for their other characters that will be the true test of whether they can pull off a cinematic universe or show they care about their characters.

Something tells me that "idiot" he's referring to is Tom Rothman.
Better known as the ass hat who did everything he could to sabotage Fox's comic book movies.
Also known now as the head of Sony.
And if he's talking about a different person?
[frick] Tom Rothman anyway.

sintzu- "If he means in terms of quantity then yes but if he means quality then heasn't seen the dark knight trilogy&man of steel which puts everything Marvel's made to shame."
id say the dark knight and maybe batman begins put's most of them to shame except iron man, the winter soldier and maybe avengers, but the other dc films you mentioned IMO dont put any of them to shame.

I think Stan was speaking about Avi Arad. Even though Tom Rothman should get a dick for not green lighting Deadpool for years.

Sinzu- "MOS&TDKR don't put IM2 to shame ?"
i meant only TDK and maybe BB puts all of them to shame with the exceptions in my opinion being iron man, TWS and maybe avengers. IMO MOS definately puts IM2, incredible hulk and Thor 2 to shame.
BlackPhillip

@sintzu

He was talking about in the sense of the cinematic universes. TDK trilogy is not part of the DCCU. TDKR sucked btw. As good as MOS was (it was a very flawed movie), Iron Man, GOTG, Avengers, and TWS were all superior movies.

@sintzu

I also think he's talking about DC heros that are in movies right now or have been....

And, in that case DC is definitely catching up....

Marvel has released movies that definitely are better than BB and TDK, and especially TDKR....

It's really all a matter of opinion, Nolan's movies had to be so realistic that, although they were comic book movies, there were a lot of comic book elements that he could never touch on....

And, Batfleck would put Baleman to shame, just saying
