DC Comics has announced today that, this April, writer Kenny Porter and artist Ricardo López Ortiz are teaming up for The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive, a canon comic book prequel to The Flash movie.
It will run for three issues between April and July with the 48-page first instalment hitting comic book stores and Digital apps on April 26. Max Fiumara pencilled the cover below, while there will be a variant by the movie's director, Andy Muschietti. As for the interiors, Juan Ferreyra is coming on board for issue #2, while Jason Howard is set to join Porter for the third and final chapter.
In The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive, Barry Allen’s world-saving adventure with the Justice League has driven Central City’s favourite son to become a truly skilled and inspirational Super Hero. But when a new threat by the name of Girder emerges in Central City, Barry turns to Batman for advice on training to master his powers. Under the Dark Knight’s tutelage, The Fastest Man Alive will have to find a way to defeat this metallic menace or be crushed by Girder’s strength.
So, it sounds like Batman is training Barry to be a superhero (we've previously heard that he created the Scarlet Speedster's new suit), and this prequel is sure to be welcomed by fans hoping to see more of Ben Affleck's Dark Knight. After all, The Flash looks set to wipe him from existence when the new DC Extended Universe can be created, so this comic should be essential reading for fans.
We're also banking on it filling in some gaps between Justice League and The Flash, all while hopefully dropping some big hints about what we can expect from Barry Allen's first solo movie.
The Flash races into theaters on November 4.
