THREE JOKERS: Geoff Johns And Jason Fabok Reveal New Details & Artwork For The BATMAN Event

Three Jokers was first teased during Geoff Johns' Justice League run, but the long-delayed DC Comics event series is finally set to hit shelves this summer. Earlier today, the comic book writer confirmed that the three-issue book won't suffer Doomsday Clock-style delays because he and artist Jason Fabok have finished it, but more details have now been revealed along with some preview art.

Plot details remain a closely guarded secret, but The Killing Joke looks set to be a major inspiration visually, and what the Clown Prince of Crime did to both Jason Todd and Barbara Gordon looks set to play a key role in what Johns has said won't be "just another Batman-Joker story."

"One of the reasons I've never done one before is because there are so many amazing ones," he explains, "so I was only gonna do one if it was different and surprising and looked at the Joker and the meaning of the Joker and his effect on Batman and his family in a new way. We’re not introducing a multiverse of Jokers, we’re not out to change these characters forever, but we are turning over some rocks about these characters and their relationships."

"It goes back to the beginning when Batman first encountered the Joker, but it’s also The Killing Joke and A Death in the Family that speak to the book and that we’re building off emotionally. Barbara and Jason have gone through so much, as has Bruce, and it’s really focused on healing, on scars and wounds and what that does to somebody."

"If you suffer some trauma, you don’t just get over with it and move on with your life, it changes who you are," the comic book writer continues. "Sometimes it changes you for the better, sometimes it changes you for the worse. You can heal right, and you can heal wrong. That’s really what the book’s about: Healing right, healing wrong, and surviving."

Three Jokers is certainly an intriguing premise, and after the mixed reaction to Doomsday Clock, it will be interesting seeing how fans respond to yet another game-changing event series from DC.

After all, the apparent reveal that there are three versions of The Joker in the DC Universe is a big deal, and something that could change Batman's relationship with the villain for years so come.

Three Jokers?! My theory is: One person who has three shattered personalities, each one caused by the same tragic event.

Or Batman is one Joker, Joker is one Joker and the Batman who laughs is a Joker. They are all called Jokers as they lack a grip on reality or something like that.

@Knightrider - its been confirmed its 3 people. Not only would the mobius chair just answer with the birth name then, we also have an instance where one joker commits a crime while another is being arrested.

I don't like the current state of DC Comics, now with Didio's exit things could change but it will take time, just like what happened with Marvel post Alonso.

All i know is that the "Geoff-Johnsverse" (if one could call it that way) is the one DC Timeline that i actually like BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE THE DCU!

F*ck Tom King for killing Alfred especially HOW he killed him.

Alfred is alive in Doomsday Clock and in 3 Jokers.
If you ask them, this stories are hardly canon, but long time DC fans knows how this shit works.
They know that this is the ONLY thing that matters, just think about The Killing Joke for example.
A What if?/Elseworld type of story? Heh, feels pretty canon to me. :3

@Doomsday8888 - Well, due to the delays, this is behind the where the continuity is. Doomsday Clock is canon, as it's the conclusion to the entire DC Rebirth relaunch. Since 3 Jokers would have been released in a similar timeframe, and Alfred is still alive, this simply takes place before Alfred got Bane'd.

@MrMediocre
Doomsday Clock not only is Rebirth's climax but it was supposed to be set 1 year after the current DCU timeframe, for example, that's why Geoff was able to mention King's Sanctuary from Heroes in Crisis.
That's why the LOSH and JSA were off limits for other writers to use.

But f*cking Didio ruined almost everything.
Gave the LOSH to Bendis, King because of him was able to kill Alfed, do whatever he did with Wally, Snyder doing his Crisis type of shit with that Metal bullshit etc...

Hopefully this 5G will fix everything but i kinda doubt it...

@Doomsday8888 - Doomsday Clock was shite - the 1st 6 issues were superfluous (the ONLY good thing was the introduction of Mime and Marionette), maybe if Johns and Frank could have kept on schedule Doomsday Clock would matter, but it doesn't - why should Didio hold back the company for one creative team who couldn't keep a damn schedule...also John's Shazam! kept falling behind.

Face it boyo, Doomsday Clock will NEVER be held in the same high regard as Watchmen it's just a pale shadow of that tome.

For every major DC event, the universe creates a new Joker. There will always be a Joker, and new ones will be created...even if the previous one still remains. That's my guess....or maybe Batman unknowingly keeps creating them...we'll see.

Establishing the Joker as literally three different people is the kind of idea one can expect from the guy who created different colored Lantern Corps. Would people please stop "sanctifying" normal/regular writers like Johns?

Batman’s suit is kinda weak if it can be cut off that easy. 🤷‍♂️
