Deadpool (2015) #26 Review: The Bleeding Hearts Club

In this issue, we see how Deadpool enjoys his Valentine’s Day and it’s not pretty! With women problems, money problems, and being on call 24/7 the Merc with a Mouth joins the bleeding hearts club.

Duggan starts off with Madcap giving Deadpool an unexpected Valentine’s Day present, the key to someone else’s heart. Afterward, Wade takes Lady Shiklah out for a romantic night in Manhattan including a horse-drawn carriage and a candle lit dinner. However, during the nightcap, Deadpool must go out and track down Madcap and the trail of destruction left behind. This leads him tracking down European gangsters which lead him to Madcap. As Deadpool’s blade was an inch to his neck he realized that it was actually an imposter.

The interaction with Shiklah sets up some hilarious moments as the date goes from bad to worse with Wade literally tearing the heart away from her. Though the main importance of this issue is furthering Deadpool’s recent storyline with Madcap playing a threat from a distance.

Hepburn, Tartaglia, and Kniivila definitely make this issue better by adding art that is light hearted and full of the typical shenanigan level of Deadpool. Penciling is basic using thin to medium outlines to containing the overwhelm and outperform coloring and shading. The vivid colors paired well with the zany actions within such as Wade getting stabbed by his wife which sounds like an average Valentine’s Day in my book.

This issue is just another Valentine’s Day in the world of Wade Wilson getting stabbed, getting a special gift from Madcap, and more. This wasn’t a great story but every aspect was enjoyable adding touches of Romantic Comedy mixed with a little Detective Noir leading this issue into your heart.
