As I was thinking about how Spider-Man is going to be joining the MCU, and how Sony will still be making the independent Spider-Man movies, I remembered that we'll likely see more incarnations of his villains as well - the Green Goblin, Venom, probably Doc Ock, etc.
However, now that Superman's been "re-invented for modern cinema" for a couple years now, I find myself looking forward to seeing some of his major villains on the big screen for the first time. Hopefully, ones like Brainiac, Metallo, and Darkseid, just to name a few. Because up until now, Superman has really only had two physically formidable major villains on the big screen - General Zod... and Nuclear Man.
I claim to be more of a Spider-Man fan than Superman, but I find myself almost dredding yet another Spider-Man reboot that rehashes characters we've already seen, while at the same time, looking forward to seeing new characters introduced on the big screen for Superman.
Then the question came to me - When I watch a super-hero movie, am I watching it for how much I love the Hero? Or for how much I love the Villain? Some films focus the spotlight on the heroes, while others pay more attention to the villains. And I'm purposely not stating which movies I think are which, because I want you to think about it. At the end of the day for me, I'm still going keep watching and enjoying almost all of them (there's a small handful I like to think were never actually made).
But what gets you more excited about seeing a new super-hero movie - the Hero or the Villain? Discuss!
