Here is the Official Press Release courtesy of our friends over at Comic Book Resources.

Marvel is proud to announce the release of Captain America: A Little Help, an all-new story free to all fans via the Marvel Comics App (for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch) and Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited in an effort to help raise awareness of suicide prevention. Written by Dr. Tim Ursiny, PH.D., CBC, RCC and illustrated by Nick Dragotta, this powerful story shows what happens when one man on the verge of suicide is drawn into a chance encounter with Captain America—and he may be the Avenger’s only hope! This story is also available in I Am An Avenger #5, in comic stores nationwide today—both digital and print versions include contact information for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

"Super heroes fight a lot of battles, but there are few more important than combating suicide," said Tom Brevoort, Senior Vice-President of Publishing. "That’s why we’re making Captain America: A Little Help available for free via our digital comics outlets. If even one person calls this number instead of doing something very tragic, we know that means we succeeded."

You can check out Captain America: A Little Help right now on the Marvel Comics App and Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited or pick up a copy of I Am An Avenger #5 at your local retailer.

To contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, please call 1-800-273-TALK or visit www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org

I agree 100% with everything spiderman620 said...way to go Marvel. Now, can we change the suit again already!? For crying out loud, this is the lamest rendition I have ever seen. Alex, you're a douche and should have done a better job.

@revelation: Outdated? Have you seen some of the crap characters they have been coming out with lately? There hasn't been a decent one since maybe Deadpool? What exactly are you wanting to see?

Don't get me wrong saving any life is great but being from Canada i just can't understand the US when it is horrible when any one gets hurt or dies yet they seem to want everyone and their dog to walk around with loaded guns . I just don't get it .

golden123 - 1/12/2011, 2:06 PM
@thunderforce: We like the idea of defending ourselves. I know it seems crazy but we would rather have the criminal get hurt or die for his crime than us.

Captain america has always been one of my favoite charachters and the story sounds great! Hopefully it really will inspire some people to reconsider taking their own lives.

@fanboy76 - That is a great idea to send it to the soldiers, I am in Iraq now, been here for about 10 months and while I am not having those problems I know there are probably a lot of people out here and in Afghanistan that are and little things like that do work!
thunderforce
thunderforce - 1/12/2011, 2:10 PM
@ golden123 If there were no guns couldn't you defend yourself with a knife ? We don't have guns here and i only live in a small city 200,000 but you know how many murders we had last year ? ZERO . I wish all cities could be like that .
golden123
golden123 - 1/12/2011, 2:10 PM
@DerekDecay: You call being perfectly prone to getting robbed or jumped on a day to day bases civilized?
golden123
golden123 - 1/12/2011, 2:17 PM
@thunderforce: There was zero murders because there is only 200,000 people and even in a city as large as New York murders aren't an everyday thing. And a Kinfe won't help if the enemy is carrying a gun. Unless I can magically sneak pass them without them hearing or seeing me. Also we don't just shoot if were trying to be killed we shoot for something as simple as being robbed.

@golden123 I've lived in 3 places in The US. Alabama, Florida, and Boston, Mass.
I've never been jumped or robbed, and I don't really know anyone that has been either.
Actually I saw one person die, but that was because a riot cop shot her in the head with a bean bag after the world series.

Anyway guns aren't the answer to crime, gun control is the answer to crime.
I can go into wal-mart and buy a shotgun today, and have it tomorrow, It shouldn't be that easy.
thunderforce
thunderforce - 1/12/2011, 2:22 PM
Thats what i am saying if no one had guns then a knife would do it just seems to me a nut with a knife would not be able to kill as many people as a nut with an assault rifle .
golden123
golden123 - 1/12/2011, 2:25 PM
@thunderforce: Yes, but in my country we have already allowed people to carry guns and if we just try to recall all the guns that do you really think that criminals would listen. The fact is tour criminals already have guns and people here need to be able to prepare for the worst.
golden123
golden123 - 1/12/2011, 2:37 PM
@patriatuism: A lot of those big cities where most do not carry guns seems to have a lot more crime than the bit more rural places where guns are a common house hold item. And there are required things you need to do before owning a gun.
patriautism
patriautism - 1/12/2011, 2:43 PM
@golden123 Yes a handgun requires you to have a license but not shotguns or rifles.
All they require for that is an instant or over night background check.
golden123
golden123 - 1/12/2011, 2:46 PM
@patriautism: A handgun is more concealable and therefor is more used by criminals. And backround checks are one of the "required things you need to do before owning a gun" I was talking about.
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 1/12/2011, 2:58 PM
More guns, less crime. Look it up. Besides, when the only group that has guns is the government we should REALLY be afraid.

How is this topic about guns? Its about a Captain America issue about suicide not a debate about gun control. If you want to talk about gun control, go to site where its about that topic.
patriautism
patriautism - 1/12/2011, 4:46 PM
@MassExecutions How is that true? Countries like the UK, where guns are illegal, have a far smaller crime rates.

@golden123 I see your point with the concealment of the handgun. Not many people hold up stores with a shotgun, but it does happen. A background check means nothing though, people with clear records kill people all the time as with the recent shooting in AZ, he passed his background check even though he is a known drug addict.(http://www.thirdage.com/news/gun-control-avoid-shootings-better-background-checks-say-advocates_1-11-2011). Those 14 people would still be alive if he was denied a gun. I'm not saying guns should be illegal in the US, just a more in depth back round check and maybe a mandatory psychiatric evaluation, before the purchase.

As someone who has dealt with depression personally... I find this a little insulting. You can't prevent suicide with a comic book, sorry. If they want to deal with suicide seeing as it's a real life issue that's fine. Fiction draws from reality to create drama. But if they actually think this is going to help people, they're wrong. Depression is a much deeper issue, and someone who's made the decision to commit suicide isn't going to be swayed by an anti suicide comic book.

[frick] you. Unless you've experienced it yourself, you have no place to speak or call people selfish for wanting to kill themselves.
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 1/12/2011, 5:28 PM
I'm just telling you want the statistics I've seen say. I think there is more gun violence in America (if there is) because American's have that kind of attitude. Also, failed policies in large cities...which usually have the toughest gun laws. Washington DC for example. I just think the benefits (if any) that could be gained from increased gun laws don't make up for the loss of freedom. For example, I can't think of a single law that could have stopped the recent tragedy in Arizona without completely squashing the freedoms of law abiding citizens.

Depression isn't something you just get over asshole! Tell that to all the people who have killed themselves. You don't just snap out of it! I've been depressed my whole life and I never really knew why. It had nothing to do with how good or bad my life was. You're no [frick]ing expert. I'm so [frick]ing sick of people like you. It disgusts me.

When you think about killing youself every [frick]ing day of your life, then come back to me and maybe we'll have a REAL conversation on the matter. [frick]ing prick.

There are two kinds of depression.

The first kind is where people are having hard times in their life. But even that isn't nexxesarily temporary.

the second is people like me who are born with it. I've dealt with depression since before I even understood it. I've been depressed since grade school. Tell me, what problems could a gradeschooler possibly have that would lead them to thoughts of suicide in the fourth grade? HUH? [frick]in prick

@MassExecutions We would lose some constitutional rights with gun control laws that is true. I can see your point.

guns are for pussies who want to feel like tough guys. on the topic of cap this is a very honorable thing to do.
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 1/12/2011, 6:03 PM
@luckyle - yeah, lots of those guys are criminals. That's why at least a few non-criminals have to have guns, to effectively combat those insecure losers. Also, those losers are less likely to use their guns if there is a probability their potential victim has a gun as well. I agree with you that this is a good thing to do, even if a single comic can only help a little.
Bartsbucs
Bartsbucs - 1/12/2011, 6:09 PM
@Sylon,

I have to disagee with you on one thing. I think that this could help some people. Yes, people who have a history of depression probably won't look at this and get anything out of it. But some young kid who is down on his luck and wishes he/she could life in the world of comics (which don't lie, a lot of people do... it is an escape from thier own life) and reads this it might help them. Not to mention a huge part of suicide prevention is recognizing it in others and try to help them trhough it, if this is able to do that as well as try to keep someone from hurting themselves then I say good on Marvel for doing it. And to call it insulting, is very selfish.
