COMICS: What Is Marvel's Next Big Event? "Do You Fear..?"

After a series of ominous teasers released this week, Tom Brevoort and Axel Alonso have confirmed that it's their next big event. Hit the jump for details, pictures and more...

Firstly, here are the five teaser images and trailer that Marvel released throughout the week.

As we already know, the images in teasers like this often don't end up being in the actual series' but they're extremely intriguing nonetheless! Now, I'm not sure whether any of you have noticed these cryptic ads in recent Marvel comic books which are obviously tied to the event. Any idea what they mean?

Finally, here is what Tom Brevoort and Axel Alonso had to say in a recent interview with Comic Book Resources about the upcoming event as well as when all the details about it will finally be revealed!

"You know, we went into the Heroic Age, and we took a year or so off from doing big, interconnected event series, because we sensed a certain fatigue was setting in, both on the part of the readers and our creators. And fans seemed to like that for the most part. But now we're all well-rested and it's time to get back to business again."

"So the thing we're going to be talking about a week from now is massive. It's incredibly huge, incredibly far-reaching. It's a big ol' bombshell to drop, and there's not much more I can say about it ahead of time. But yes, this will not be a small thing. This will be a grand, sweeping, epic Marvel event the likes of which you haven't seen in a few years. It's definitely larger in scope than "Siege," more on the scale of "Secret Invasion," and as ambitious in its way as "Civil War."

"To that end, we're having a press conference on Tuesday at Noon Eastern at a location we can't reveal quite yet. But if you can't make it, we're streaming the whole thing live on Marvel.Com."

Until then, let the speculation commence! After a year of some pretty poor mini-events as Marvel call them ("Shadowland" anyone?) I for one am looking forward to another big event especially as "The Heroic Age" has been somthing of a let down so far in my eyes. Be sure to share your thoughts on this in the usual place!

"The Heroic Age" has been a big let down. Captain America comes back from the dead, and just forgives Tony Stark for screwing the Marvel Universe up so badly that Norman Osborn ended up taking over? (another storyline that never reached it's full potential IMO) I've enjoyed the new teams of Avengers, and Steve Rogers' new role in things, and it's been great not to constantly see the same old stuff again and again. (New Avengers vs Mighty/Dark Avengers vs The Hood etc, etc)

However, none of these big events ever end up being as good as they look and the aftermath is always underwhelming. Why? Brian Michael Bendis. A great writer, but Marvel need to get someone new in to handle this so it feels fresh. "Civil War" was a perfect example of how effective doing that can be. I'm hoping that the Christos Gage rumours are true...Mark Millar would be even better though. And give Spider-Man a bigger role/more important role in things! I'm sick of Bendis making him a wisecracking idiot who annoys everyone. Dan Slott is thanfully writing him to his full potential in Amazing Spider-Man right now. That first issue of "Big Time" showed how the character SHOULD be portrayed in the Avengers titles.

Intruder: I [frick]ing LOVE the sound of that! I've been hoping that Tony would fall off the wagon again for years...especially when he seemed close to doing just that in "Civil War"! :P

I want to know whether it has anything to do with Steve's vision back in the last issue of Captain America: Reborn? Since then, we've seen martians in The Avengers, weird visions of mysterious machines in Invincible Iron Man, and those things Doc Ock let loose in Amazing Spider-Man...

Notice how similar they all look!?

And how about all the clues on this thing...

JoshWilding - 12/18/2010, 11:49 AM
A lot of those things have already happenned and "Steve's Vision" is up there as happenning pretty soon after "Where is Wanda?" which isnt set to finish for another six months...perhaps then, that'll be the 2013 event and this thing is something to do with "Return of the King", "Iron Lad Returns", "Night Falls" or "All Hope Lies In Doom"?

Intruder... You are very correct. This wimpy DC crap has been pretty boring lately.

Let Mark Millar write the next Event.

An Event That includes ghost rider and some sort of apocalyptic scenerio and the return of Wanda... Or Thanos again...

IDK... Anything, but this cheesy Heroic Age crap

There was also something Madame Webb saw in Civil War: Peter Parker, Spider-man. I can't quite think of it, but I remember reading it and thinking it could be a major event in the future.

Josh, your first comment is something I've always felt. I'm tired of Spidey being the comic-relief person of both groups. Anyways, this event.....it looks like it will be a psychological one.

I wonder if this has to do with Are's son. You know, The God of FEAR. Last time I remember seeing him, he went crazy after seeing Sentry rip his dad in half. He tried to kill the President. Maybe some kind of revenge.

shadowland and second coming, were considered mini events it didnt involve the whole marvel MU, second coming was strictly an x-men event. i am guessing age of x is going to be another x-event, so which one happens first fear or age of x

Ho hum. Another event. Wake me when they write actual stories instead of yet another "ZOMG ITS EPIC" crossover event that will "shake things up" and then be forgotten about once they've drained the wallets of fanboys everywhere.
