Marvel Comics Announces FALLEN FRIEND: THE DEATH OF [SPOILER] One-Shot

Marvel Comics is clearly okay with spoiling this massive character death, but we're going to add the tag just in case you'd rather be surprised by the events of The Amazing Spider-Man #26...

Earlier today, the news leaked online that Marvel Comics was planning to kill off a major character in The Amazing Spider-Man #26 later this month. We kept the reveal under a spoiler tag, but Marvel has now officially confirmed the big twist by announcing a new one-shot which will deal with the aftermath of the hero's death.

If you've managed to avoid knowing who is set to meet their maker, major spoilers follow.

Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, is not long for this world. The character will reportedly sacrifice herself in the upcoming issue to protect Spidey and several other heroes. Exact details on how she ultimately falls still haven't been disclosed, but based on the following preview pages, The Emissary will be involved.

"The heart of the Marvel Universe has stopped beating. Now join the other heroes of the Marvel Universe, the creators of Ms. Marvel, and comic fans everywhere in honoring and remembering one of Marvel’s brightest stars!"

We fully expected Marvel Comics to place more of a focus on Khan with The Marvels on its way to the big screen, so this is a pretty big surprise. We can't see Khan staying dead (does anyone?) for very long, but it'll be interesting to see how and when she's resurrected.

If she does come back, could it be as a Mutant and not an Inhuman in order to bring the hero more in line with her live-action counterpart?

She'll be back in the time for The Marvels. It makes no sense to have a big MCU movie come out and have one of the main characters dead in the comics.

@CorndogBurglar -

Or!

Or, or, hear me out...

...maybe this is a leeway for them to justify the movie's projected low BO numbers via this comic? You know, as if most of the general audiences actually read those, let alone let them gauge their moviegoing experience?

I kid, I kid...

...or am I?

But in all seriousness, yeah. I agree that this is a very dumb, or at the very least ill-timed idea.

@DrReedRichards - Now, Now, Doctor. That almost sounded like a conspiracy theory for Marvel explaining poor ticket sales. Lol. It wouldn't be the craziest thing theory I've heard around here. Like people claiming they only race swap so they can blame racists for lower ticket sales. Which, I've never heard Disney say once lol. And seems counter productive. If race swapping lowers sales, then why not just, I don't know? Not race swap to begin with? Then you wouldn't have to have pre-baked excuses, right?

I'm not even a fan of race swapping and even I can see how silly that sounds lol.

But I'm going off course here. Sorry about that. Yeah, you should always have comics that people can go read with characters from a new movie. Just in case people want to get into the other side of the super heroes. It's never a good idea to kill off a main character in comics right before they have a movie release.

@CorndogBurglar - I don’t think they really focus on this kind of stuff anymore the movies make more money than the comics at this point, no need to use them as marketing for the books anymore it’s its own thing now

@ShimmyShimmyYA - The movies always made more than the comics. But the idea is to use the movies to potentially help raise your comic sales.

@CorndogBurglar - I know but I’m saying I don’t think they care about using movies to boost comic sales at this point cause how much the movies are doing the heavy lifting. CBMs are mainstream things now

@ShimmyShimmyYA - No I hear you. I'm just saying if I owned Marvel, and my movies were making me literal billions, but my comics were doing abysmally bad, I would definitely want to help my comics sales any way possible.

Well, there we go with someone else dying because of Peter. The dude is just a death-trap for Marvel characters. Seriously, if a real-life Spidey invited me over for like a brunch or something I'd be like "Um, yeah, I kinda don't want to die today, so..."

I…brought in Freakazoid to express how I feel about this, similar to what he thought of the Lobe’s ‘clown ray’ scheme. *A-HEM*

Freakazoid:
“Well, if you don’t mind me saying so, that is the STUPIDEST plan I’ve ever heard of!”

*Marvel editorial defends its decision.*

“BALONEY! People don’t like needless character deaths! What were you thinking?! That’s just dumb!!”

*Marvel editorial goes ‘Nuh-uh!’.*

“Uh-huuuh! Dumb, dumb, dumb! And you’re doing it right before her big feature film debut, there’s a lot people looking forward to that! What were you THINKING?! Explain it to me!”

*Marvel editorial, surprisingly, admits it’s not sure.*

“C’mon, get over here—I expected a lot more from you than this. ‘Death of Ms. Marvel’, PLEASE!”

*Marvel editorial begins to cry, shamefully apologizing, claiming they don’t know what’s wrong with themselves, that they’re over-tired, it was the best they could do.*

“Ditch the story.”

Marvel editorial, downcast, tosses the entire script into the shredder and deletes all files related to it.*

“Now go on, get back to the drawing board! Try again!”

*Marvel editorial head back into the meeting room, apologizing all the way.*

Fallen Friend is such a dumb title. It sounds like she tripped down the stairs or something. Every panel with Paul just makes me mad. God I hope this run is over. I would have actually been relieved had MJ, Peter or Paul died.

If this is all a move to bring her back with her less interesting MCU powers and declare her as a mutant now, Marvel should be shut down

@Twenty23Three - You know that's what is going to happen. I just understand why there must be synergy between film and comics. Just let the comics be their own thing. 🙄

It's 6 months until the movie will fail and nobody will ask for the character that will be resurrected with a new #1 by then.

Shouldnt be this character's death (to be reverted in 4 months) be more connected to Captain Marvel than Spiderman?
Anyway, at this point, people who keeps reading these comics are part of a toxid relationship.
