Marvel Comics Announces New KID VENOM Series Written By Legendary Manga Creator Taigami

Despite having a name which sounds like he should've been introduced in the '90s, Kid Venom has proven himself one of Marvel's most compelling new characters in 2023 and he'll get his own series next year!

Following his debut in Death of the Venomverse earlier this year, acclaimed manga creator Taigami will continue his vision for Kid Venom in a four-issue solo comic book series coming next April.

We saw the birth of this new symbiote in 10th century Japan, with the story of a young hero named Kintaro who protected his village from mysterious symbiote attacks by embracing a symbiote of his very own. As he bonded himself to a new symbiote entity dubbed Clinter, Kintaro embraced his wild new abilities as Kid Venom.

Now, we'll witness his journey as it takes a dramatic turn deeper into the Marvel mythos when he crosses over into present-day Earth-616.

Japan, 977. Kid Venom has made his presence known to the evil symbiotes taking people and creatures hostage...but who else has their eye on Kintaro and his symbiote? Witness the world of Kid Venom expand as new characters and dangers are revealed!

Discussing the character's Marvel Universe introduction, Taigami said, "It is an honor. I was a big fan of the Marvel Universe since I was in school, so this feels unreal that the characters and the stories that I came up with are in that Universe, and I still can’t believe it!"

"Kid Venom was based on a one shot that I sent for a manga contest Shonen Magazine and Marvel held in 2018. One of the rules for the contest was [to use a theme or a character from Marvel and write and draw a first episode for a new series], and the theme that I chose was symbiote."

"The next thing that I thought was who would be the best host for a symbiote," he continued. "There were already many Venoms and there were enough variations, so I thought it had be something totally new to be recognized. In Japan, there are several famous folklores such as 'Momotaro' and 'Urashimataro.'"

"Among them, there is a story of 'Kintaro.' The legend is about a boy who was strong, living with his mother in Mount Ashigara. He later was hired by Minamoto Yorimitsu, a very high ranked samurai and defeats many yokai. Later he becomes one of the four samurais of Minamoto Yorimitsu. This story is a mix of folklore and a historical story from the Heian Era of Japan. So when I mixed Symbiote to the legend of Kintaro, 'Kid Venom' was born."

You can check out Gerardo Sandoval's cover Kid Venom #1 below and, while we'd normally scoff at a character like this, it's hard not to be intrigued with a talent like Taigami telling this symbiote's story.

So many Spider-Man offshoots, lame. I get that many like the “spider-verse”, but to me it just shows a lack of originality.

But to each their own.

SonOfAGif - 12/24/2023, 11:26 AM
@MuadDib - This isn't Spider-Man this is a symbiote.

@SonOfAGif - eye roll

I can read, and I fully grasp that it’s not technically a “Spider-Man”, but offshoots of spider related characters fall into the category that I’m referring to.

Where’s Venom-Pig, and Venom-Girl, Noir-Venom, Punk-Carnage, Kid-Carnage, etc, etc, etc

They just keep recycling the same concepts and repackaging them over and over.

Originality is dead.

Everything is about the reboot now

Sigh.

@MuadDib - I don't understand how you could get upset at multiple symbiotes when there is an entire planet of symbiotes. The symbiotes landing on different planets, universes, or moons and attaching to a living species should not be new and unoriginal. It's no different than a facehugger implanting an egg in a living species and birthing a different looking Xenomorph.

MuadDib - 12/24/2023, 11:58 AM
@SonOfAGif - I’m not upset about it, just can’t get enthus’d about the typical spinoff archetype.

I like the concept of a planet of symbiotes and can get behind all the variations there could be in that situation. My minor gripe is with the notion that it’s the same old same old as far as who gets a symbiote here on earth. And having one land in feudal times only to then time travel into what is already a crowded field of spider / symbiotes just seems lazy.

Can’t fault the writers for sticking a cool concept like an alien symbiote in a really cool time period. Judging by the difficulty Brock, Kasady and others have had with their symbiotes, a kid just seems like a poor choice and comes across as pandering to the younger audience.

But hey, let’s not waste Christmas Eve going back and forth. Over all the concept is appealing, just seems rather lazy in my personal opinion. Who knows it could develop into something really cool.

Happy Holidays

Its a different symbiote than why the hell is the name lame ass "Kid Venom"?
StSteven
StSteven - 12/24/2023, 4:53 PM
@SirDuckAlot - I take your point but I think the obvious answer is to use Venom’s name recognition and popularity to get people to pick up the book. I mean it doesn’t really look much like a typical Venom-ish symbiote based on the cover art so I guess they came up with the name to draw people in. Either way I’m assuming that he won’t be referred to by that name in the book as it would make zero sense.
