Marvel Comics Rumored To Be Launching New ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Title Along With ULTIMATE BLACK PANTHER And More

The Ultimate Invasion series appears to be setting the stage for the Ultimate Universe's return, and a new rumor reveals a whole wave of titles reportedly on the way being spearheaded by Jonathan Hickman.

Jonathan Hickman's Ultimate Invasion series has followed the Ultimate Reed Richards, The Maker, as he rebuilds Earth-1610 in his image. That's led to some seismic changes, including a Peter Parker who never became Spider-Man and an Iron Man who is Howard Stark instead of Tony.

Whether those changes stick remains to be seen, though we've known for a while now that the limited series will conclude with the creation of a new Ultimate Universe. The line originally launched in the early 2000s with The Ultimates and titles revolving around characters such as Spider-Man, the X-Men, and Fantastic Four.

Unfortunately, everything started falling apart when Jeph Loeb got involved and it was Hickman who brought a seemingly permanent end to Earth-1610 in the pages of Secret Wars

According to Bleeding Cool, the new Ultimate Universe line will include Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men and, perhaps most surprisingly, Ultimate Black Panther. There's going to be a fourth comic which, while not confirmed, is expected to be The Ultimates (they're this reality's Avengers).

It sounds like this won't be a redo of the original Ultimate Universe so we'd bet on these comics all looking very different this time. Ultimate Spider-Man is particularly intriguing; will Miles Morales return to his own reality or are we getting a new take on Peter Parker?

He died in order to usher in Miles' debut and later returned in what proved to be a rather unsatisfying story arc before this world reached its end.

The site concludes its report by revealing, "Jonathan Hickman will be writing at least one of these titles going forward, while keeping his eye on the others. How any of this will tie into his G.O.D.S. series, if at all, I have no idea whatsoever. But I wouldn't rule it out."

We're probably a couple of months away from learning any official details about Marvel Comics' plans for the Ultimate Universe but if you're a comic book movie fan looking for an entry point into the comics, this might be a great place to start!

They should just create a new ultimate universe under the original concept of giving a new marvel universe with origins set in modern times.

@Origame - They should make two separate universes one for comic book fans of the 616 universe and one for the MCU.

I'm probably way off here, but this has me more positive now that MCU is heading for a reboot after secret wars.

Ultimate vol 1 and 2 were amazing though! (man eating Hulk aside)

They should get Jim Krueger and Alex Ross to do an Ultimates X book, detailing the secret history of the universe and setting up the rules of the Mutants/Inhumans/Celestials etc.

@ObserverIO - Check out the Earth X series. Alex Ross did some of the art there.

@UniqNo - I know that's why I suggested him for an Ultimates X book (along with Earth X writer Jim Kreuger).

They recently teamed for Marvels X, a prequel to the Earth X trilogy and an alternate sequel to Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross' Marvels.

I just think it would be neat to get the guys who made sense out of all the disparate concepts of the Marvel Universe to do the same for the new Ultimate line. It would also be a cool way for them to another 'X' book as a reboot rather than a sequel or a prequel.

@ObserverIO - Fair enough.

I think they they should do just a totally different universe instead of reboot or relaunch the ultimate universe. it's 20 years on, there's different things that can influence a new era of revamping these characters.

@UniqNo - I agree. The old Ultimate universe was all about that. The new one should be what the old one was but for this generation. New. Improved. Ultimate.

Like the latest draft of a screenplay.
616 is Draft 1.
OG Ultimates is Draft 2.
MCU is Draft 3.
This should be Draft 4.

I Will not be surprised when quality of Ultimate Spider Man once again will be better than main Amazing.

At first this sounded simple but Ultimate Invasion was just confusing haha.

I mean what happened to the 'new' Ultimate Universe that appeared at the end of Ultimate Spider-Men 2? We literally got a look at the new Ultimates, Ultimate Peter Parker the lot, and now this?

Please God let Hickman be writing Black Panther 🙏

Ultimate X-Men always sucked ass and Ultimatum was even a bigger stinker.

@Doomsday8888 - I dunno i kind of liked all the ulimate books first volumes. the only one that was consistent throughout was ultimate Spider-Man, but that's probably down to Bendis stay with that long term.

@UniqNo - Yeah Ultimate X-Men wasn’t always necessarily well executed, but usually brought cool ideas to the table. I liked Millar’s initial setup of basically having the institute be a Montessori school though.

@OmegaBlack13 - Yeah. I think when it started to all go wrong was when they started all the crossovers and bringing in Loeb.

Those early comics though were much more of an inspiration to the MCU than most of the 616 stuff though, or a fair mixture of both.

@UniqNo - Yeah Loeb coming in at the end of the original run really derailed a lot of stuff. MCU absolutely owes its aesthetics and sensibilities to 1610. It wasn’t a 1/1 adaptation but that whole military thing they had going was all Ultimate.

Peter Parker is the one true Spider-Man. All the others are just liberal DEI tokens shoved in long before the phrase DEI was ever thought up.

1:"Hey... remember when we created the Ultimate universe, and everyone loved it?"

2:"Yes."

1:"And then we created insanely convoluted plots like the mainstream Marvel universe, and then everyone hated it?"

2:"Yes."

1:"Let's do that again."

2:"Great idea! ...wait! You mean the first part, right?"

1:"Uhhhh... whoops."
