What are those Freaking Release Dates!?!?!?!

Hello Fellow CBM Users
I'm Here to discuss what I think those mysterious release dates that marvel has set over the past couple of months since they didnt't announce over Comic con Weekend, so lets get started

July 8, 2016: This release will without a doubt be Squirrel Girl, I mean everyone has been asking for this movie right!!... No, fine this date belongs to Dr. Strange they already have a director in Scott Derrickson and marvel is already looking at actors for the role with the latest name being 3 time oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix. I'm very excited for this movie and cannot wait to the Sorcerer Supreme on the big screen

May 5, 2017: This one belongs to Thor 3, marvel has already said thor 3 is definietly happening, they already have writers attached to the movie and they seemingly have a story for it dealing with Loki taking the throne from Odin. I really liked both thor movies and i love the character and his world of asgard and who doesn't Love to hate his arch foe Loki who is, beside tony stark the breakout character of the MCU.

July 28, 2017: Marvel announced at this year Comic Con that GOTG 2 will be coming on this date which is probably not a shock to anyone. The first movie is coming out around the same time this year and the people who have seen the first one, is saying this is one of the best marvel movies of all time, so no one is surpised that a sequel is happening. I haven't seen Guardians of the Glaxay yet but I already know I'll probably love it, so i'm very excited to see where these characters go in the future.

November 3, 2017: We know every year that marvel plans to release at least 2 franchise films with one new property each year, so with thor 3 and GOTG 2 coming out this year(3 marvel films in one year, YES!!!). I think this date belongs to Black Panther, many people have been asking for a BP movie for years and I think its time we have a major superhero film lead by a race thats not white and plus he's just an awesome character and he deserves to be apart of MCU and its about Damn time

May 4, 2018: This date for me is hard to predict because we've already seen thor 3, we've already seen captain america 3, and we've already seen GOTG 2 and since this date is the start of the summer I have a feeling this date belongs to an estsblished property but I don't think this date is avengers 3 like everyone else is guessing, so i'm going to say this date belongs to Iron man 4. Right before marvel announced this date, RDJ stated that he's more then open to return for an IM4 and it would have been 5 years between iron man 3 and 4 and people want to see the wise cracking billionaire playboy to return to his solo franchise and the franchise that started the entire MCU

July 6, 2018: With no more established properties to release until november 2, 2018 and May 3, 2019(we'll get to those in a moment). This will be the last new property marvel will release until phase 4. I think this release date belongs to a Solo Black Widow movie. They have been pushing black widow into a bigger character ever since the avengers came out and with Scarlett Johansson star power growing by the year and with this past weekend success with Lucy(staring Johansson) and female lead action movies doing better and better i think this will be our first major female lead superhero film(unless DC gets on the ball and release a solo wonder woman film first). I love the black widow character and I love Johansson in the role so I really hope a solo movie for her is released soon(before people get mad at me for not including captian marvel i think she'll be introduced in GOTG 2 and get her own movie in phase 4 but she will be in the next two movies i'm about to mention)

November 2, 2018: Avengers 3: part 1, yes part 1 I really do think marvel will split avengers 3 into 2 parts. We all know marvel is leading to a showdown with the mad titan himself Thanos and i think to properly tell this story they need at least two movies and have all the characters they've intoduced since phase 1 to fight him they need to split this movie into two and I think this is awesome and I really hope im right

May 3, 2019: Avengers 3: part 2. This will be the final film in phase 3 and will be the final film of MCU as we know. This is the grand finale of phase 1, 2 & 3, and marvel will want to go out with a bang and I really can't predict anything for this movie becuase i don't know anything about other than this movie will be awesome and I will be there opening night when this film opens

what do you guys think of this release sechudule, am I way off and do you think any of these films will be release. Comment below and let me know( I'm a big Jeremy Jahns fan)

The MCU won't end after phase 3. Remember they have plans through 2028 and Fiege has said he wants the characters be like Bond. Once one is too old or for some reason leave the MCU, the character is recasted, but not rebooted.

TheReddestHood: Your right the MCU won't end after phase 3 but i do think after phase 3 there will be some major changes after it and i think it will be vastly different for phase 4

Okay fanboys do not take this wrong way, but I am pretty sure they will push for a Ms. Marvel movie due to the up rise of buzz with WW. And in the grand scheme of things all I really want is a BP movie.

midnightrain890- agreed the end of phase 3 needs to be huge IMO especially if they are fighting thanos. after that they might bring in more lesser known level heroes like manifold or smasher or starbrand. they could kill of a few characters change a few actors. the battle with thanos just needs to be huge.

midnightrain890 - 7/28/2014, 9:32 AM
KingHulk- Thanks for ready and I completely agree with you after the fight with thanos major changes are coming to the MCU and i also after phase 3 marvel will start bringing in lesser known heroes
kinghulk
kinghulk - 7/28/2014, 9:41 AM
exactly i would love to see marvel create a new hero (ive got plenty of ideas if they need them :P) and use more diverse heroes.

I think they said one continuing franchise and one new movie every year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Feige didn't say anything about the third film. I also doubt we'll see a solo Black Widow movie before a Captain Marvel film. Feige said he felt it wouldn't really be worthy of giving Marvel credit if their first solo female-led movie was about an already established character, instead of a new franchise/origin story.

With that in mind, I suspect the following:

2015: Ant-Man
2016: Captain America 3
2016: Dr. Strange
2017: Thor 3
2017: Black Panther
2017: Captain Marvel
2018: Guardians of the Galaxy 2
2018: Inhumans
2018: Hulk 2
2019: Avengers 3

@midnightrain890 @CavalierTunes @kinghulk Avengers 3 won't be [frick]ing Thanos. That's going to be Avengers 4 the earliest possible but most likely Avengers 6 in 2028.

kinghulk - 7/28/2014, 10:30 AM
Alpha- like i have said before you have no proof that it wont be, everything here is speculation at the moment but it's looking more likely that it will be 3 at the moment. you just think it will be avenger 4 i think avengers 3 ( and hopefully 4 as well as a part 1 and 2)

Not bad ...somewhat logical list. Though I think people are a little too quick to assume that Avengers 3 will DEFINITELY be Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet no matter how little sense it makes.

So basically, we have this UNIVERSE of movies leading up to a showdown with Thanos and it will take place

...in only one franchise film taking screen time from those involved in said franchise film people paid good money to see for you will have GOTG, Strange, and possibly others sharing screen time. That does not work because the general public would be FURIOUS that they went to see an Avengers film and instead go to see the Avengers having to share screen time with everyone else. Why pay off a universe spanning storyline like that. Also, there is at least one more stand alone Avengers story that could and SHOULD be told before Thanos (Masters of Evil/Siege).

The Thanos film should not and probably will not have the Avengers tag on it but be a straight Marvel Universe Film just called The Infinity Gauntlet or the Infinity War. It all comes down to this question: "How do we top what we did in Phase 1 with the Avengers; How do we create a bigger event than THAT?" The answer is having the first EVER Cinematic Crossover event. THAT is the end game here and definitely what Feige and the gang should and probably are shooting for (thank god they have Mouse Money to back them). Just as they took five years to get to the Avengers, they will take as much time as possible to get this even bigger Universe Wide Event. Why would they cheapen that by putting it under the Avengers label? It doesn't make sense. Thanos is too big of a story to just be done in an Avengers film.

But ...we all assumed Avengers 2 would be Thanos, so this oversight is understandable and forgivable.

GizmoEl - 7/28/2014, 10:43 AM
Avengers 3 will most definitely be about Thanos. He's been cast it'd be a waste to continue slow building for anything more than 4 years. We'll see him in Avengers 2, we might also see him in thor3 and gotg2 so he's perfectly set up for A3 in 2018 or 2019
kinghulk
kinghulk - 7/28/2014, 10:43 AM
objectivelybiased- it will probably have the tagline avengers because that will lure people to see the film. also i never assumed thanos would be in avengers 2 but most people did for some reason.

"It doesn't make sense. Thanos is too big of a story to just be done in an Avengers film."
i agree which is why i hope it is done part 1 part 2, or they could span it over GOTG 2 (maybe infinity watch) avengers infinity part 1 and 2. if im honest i dont care in what phase this showdown happens as long as it is as epic as im imagining. god i wish i was whedon or feige.

i really hope they incorporate some element of infinity like the black order or the siege of wakanda, or the galaxyjoining to try and stop thanos (the galactic council with supreme intelligencte, j'son and so on)

GizmoEl
GizmoEl - 7/28/2014, 10:44 AM
But it'd be great if it plays out the way you say with a movie just about the infinity gauntlet
GizmoEl
GizmoEl - 7/28/2014, 10:45 AM
If he is gonna be the baddie for A3, I hope they split it up in two movies to properly include everyone

You're joking right?

I think the film's will/could be Cap 3, Thor 3, GotG 2, Dr. Strange, Black Panther, IM 4, In humans, Avengers 3

I agree with most of the list. I think that May 2018 will be the first Avengers movie
BawbScharf
BawbScharf - 7/28/2014, 10:54 AM
Marvel in itself is a brand that will draw people in by that point (that will either be confirmed or proven false by this Friday) ...and an Avengers label will A) be false advertising and B) Cheapen GOTG and other non-Avengers. Because by that point it will be about MORE than JUST the Avengers and again, you don't top the Avengers with the Avengers ...you top it with the MARVEL UNIVERSE.

Having it all done in Avengers 3 cheapens all this build AND Thanos.

Also, many people are thinking that these new negotiations with RDJ are about Iron Man 4 ...perhaps they are instead for a much bigger end game. You begin with signing RDJ for that big finale and then work your way down to Evans and anyone else who's contract would be up by that point. But you get RDJ done first so you know what you are looking at budget wise for everyone else (by that point, I think it would only be Hemsworth and Evans but I could be wrong).

To me, it just doesn't make a whole lick of sense to build Thanos and just have him be the villain of A3. What separates him from Loki or Ultron then?
kinghulk
kinghulk - 7/28/2014, 10:58 AM
sniktbud- glad you also think so

i hope so

@kinghulk I have given you proof, you just don't take it. First of all Kevin Feige has said multiple times that Thanos would be the last villain that the Avengers would face. The Avengers won't end with Phase 3. Thanos is barely set up at that point. We don't know a lot about him or the rest of the cosmic universe. There should be a lot more characters introduced before the Infinity Gauntlet than those that we'll have by the time of Phase 3 because I myself want them to use the Infinity Gauntlet to it's extreme. I can't think of more proof right now but I have given a lot more before.
Alphadog
Alphadog - 7/28/2014, 11:38 AM
@Objectivelybiased I like what you're saying. I now agree that that makes sense. I have another adition to your idea which is that we should have a whole phase dedicated to Thanos plan in order to give proper screen time to each character. Thanos would devise a plan that would go in various factions throughout the movies and then we would have a two part story that would bring them all together and end the story. The main villain for each movie wouldn't be Thanos, he would just be the guy pulling the strings and the villain's plan would be part of his own. The stories would still have to be able to act as a separate peice so people wouldn't have to see everything in order to get each one but you could see the plan moving if you watched all the movies. Hopefully you wouldn't even have to watch the rest of the movies in order to get the Infinity Gauntlet but you obviously wouldn't be satisfied by each characters role in each movie without watching their own movies. I'm just afraid that the movie will still only be about the Avengers and maybe the Guardians of the Galaxy and that the rest of the characters will only be there for the final showdown. This way the final showdown would be the Infinity Gauntlet movies themselves.

Alphadog- "First of all Kevin Feige has said multiple times that Thanos would be the last villain that the Avengers would face. The Avengers won't end with Phase 3."
i have never seen feige state thanos will be the final villain the avengers face. he has said that thanos is the big bad behind the scenes but i havent seen him say that after thanos no more avengers.

and what proof have you shown me? i agree with you on this.

"There should be a lot more characters introduced before the Infinity Gauntlet than those that we'll have by the time of Phase 3 because I myself want them to use the Infinity Gauntlet to it's extreme. I can't think of more proof right now but I have given a lot more before."

but outside of GOTG2 we have no ideas what else will happen in phase 3, but yeah maybe it is too soon either way as long as thanos is awesome i dont care. and again what proof have you shown me?
Alphadog
Alphadog - 7/28/2014, 11:57 AM
I mean look at the list of characters that we'll probably have
The Avengers (probably about 12 members by this point), Guardians of the Galaxy (at least 8 members) Inhumans (like 7 characters more if you count the characters that will probably be introduced in tv shows and stuff if they go with the inhumanity angle), Nova corps, Miss Marvel (or Captain Marvel), all the characters from th netflix tv shows will probably appear, Thunderbolts, runnaways, Black Panther, etc...
Alphadog
Alphadog - 7/28/2014, 12:05 PM
@kinghulk Okay this isn't from Kevin Feige, it's from Joss Whedon but still: http://screenrant.com/the-avengers-3-thanos-joss-whedon/. Big finale means the ending. And I think it's natural for me to have forgotten things that I said months ago.
kinghulk
kinghulk - 7/28/2014, 12:13 PM
Alphadog- yeah i remember that interview, i assumed he meant it was the finale of what they built up with thanos, but i suppose it could be the end after that but considering the amount of money these films are makeing currently i cant see that.
Alphadog
Alphadog - 7/28/2014, 12:27 PM
@kinghulk I'd say that considering all the money they're making they'd try to extend they're plan to as far away as they can. Remember that they're stuck at 2028 as far as we know. Maybe that's because of this. Maybe they have something planned for that year so big that it's hard to move foward from that.
Alphadog
Alphadog - 7/28/2014, 12:31 PM
None of this matters of course. I myself like the idea that we're getting a twenty years buildup to one of the biggest movies of all time.
kinghulk
kinghulk - 7/28/2014, 12:34 PM
i think 20 years would be one long build up, hell 4 years from iron man to avengers was an agonizing wait so i hope to god they arent building up to this in 2028. i wont be able to survive.

Black Panther over everything

Alphadog - 7/28/2014, 1:58 PM
@kinghulk But you can't complain that Marvel isn't trying to help you. So many cool things coming up that there's a good chance that most people wouldn't suffer.
kinghulk
kinghulk - 7/28/2014, 2:08 PM
alpha- true but i hope we dont have to wait until 2028, 2020 i could live with but 2028 i might as well just go into a coma then wake up 2 weeks before release so i can watch all the films i missed.
BawbScharf
BawbScharf - 7/28/2014, 2:42 PM
@alphadog
That was what I was thinking. Phase 3 ties up any loose ends, introduces a few new heroes, allows Netflix characters to acclimate into their part of the universe, and builds on the ending of AoU ...which I think will be some kind of splitting of the team. A3 happens, ends with the (what will not be much anticipated) GOTG confronting the Avengers warning them about a coming threat. And then from there, we get films that lead up to this showdown. Everybody would go on their own individual outings but with this looming threat somewhere at the center. I do not think it will build to 2028 but more realistically 2020 or ten years after Avengers ...HOPEFULLY sooner; hopefully the last film slated for 2019.
stutx
stutx - 7/28/2014, 3:21 PM
Alphadog in the link u posted the Avengers 3 line about final chapter is not in quotes, leads me to believe that its the writers view with nothing confirming it. i do agree that thanoes will not be defeated in Avengers 3 but he could defeat the Avengers leading to a team up with GotG later in other phases. or as others have stated that another villain is used in Avengers 3.. either way im excited!!!!!
