Ahead of its launch next month, Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant has become the comic book series everyone is talking about. An Inhuman no more (well, she's actually both an Inhuman and mutant, to be specific), Kamala Khan is getting a major status quo shift that better reflects what we're seeing from the character on screen.

Next week's X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 #1 will be the start of a new era for the teenager in Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant, a title we now know will only be a four-issue limited series.

Co-written by the MCU's own Kamala Khan, Iman Vellani, and Sabir Pirzada, who was part of the Ms. Marvel writing team for Disney+, the series will tackle Kamala's journey as the newest member of the X-Men.

Joining the team just as mutantkind enters a dark new age known as Fall of X, Kamala will bravely accept a dangerous mission to protect her fellow mutants from Orchis, the supervillain group that doomed Krakoa. Amidst the action, we'll witness an inspirational journey of self-discovery as Kamala explores this long-hidden truth about herself and realizes how it overlaps and interacts with other aspects of her identity.

In a thrilling new Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant trailer, we see Kamala fight alongside her fellow mutants for the first time as a full-fledged X-Man while donning her brand-new X-uniform designed by Jamie McKelvie.

We also have new cover art and the solicitation text for the first three issues of Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant.

That’s right – the good news is that fresh off her world-saving death, Kamala has been brought back via Krakoan Resurrection Technology! What a way to learn she’s a mutant! The bad news is her debut at the Hellfire Gala didn’t go exactly as planned, and now all of mutantkind are being hunted worldwide! Into this world of hate and fear, Kamala has a secret mission to pull off for the X-Men, all the while struggling to acclimate to this new part of her identity!

Ms. Marvel’s mission makes her a target for Orchis, but they have no idea they’re looking for a completely normal teenage girl in their summer science program. Thankfully, Iron Man and Emma Frost are able to stop by and show Kamala how to fly under the radar!

Put Ms.Marvel in a comic that sells, one way to force the character on people.

Hope she does a Thunderbird in this series.

I thought she was an inhuman.

Cool. The whole "death of Ms. Marvel" thing still feels like a scummy, ham-fisted way to get to this point, but I do like the new suit a lot, and the overall nod to her original concept as a mutant.

Hope it's good.

Wait…is she a popular comic book character and I didn’t know it? If not it is a little weird they’re trying to push her this hard.

@EZBeast - No she isn't popular Marvel will try to tell ya, that she's the next Peter Parker/Spider-Man but real comic book fans know the truth, she's shite.

@EZBeast - I think she's fairly popular with a younger, teenage audience, similar to how Moongirl doing great with little kids.

@marvel72 - She carried an ongoing from 2014 to 2021 by the same writer most of that time. She's either popular or G Willow Wilson has a crazy fan base that will buy her books no matter what.

@1stDalek - you got any sales numbers? Because we all know Marvels mandate isnt just to sell books anymore.

@1stDalek - Nope not an ongoing from 2014 to 2021. Its been cancelled and relaunched - 2014 to 2015 then another run from 2016 to 2019.
After that 2019 to 2021 and a 5 issue limited series in 2021/22 both written buy a different person

@Radders - That's cause Marvel was doing line-wide restarts to #1 every other year during that time to pump sales. The fact the writer stayed on is indicative of their trust in the team, unlike Captain Marvel who keeps getting new creatives switches all the time.

@Ryguy88 I don't have sales numbers, but even if I did that wouldn't matter if your starting point is that they're not keeping books going to earn money.

@1stDalek - Its reasonable to say that Marvel were constantly restarting comics, just correcting your error on the "run". But I also think there may be other reasons for keeping G Willow Wilson on that title which are are similar to who they chose to replace her.

Still not cool with this change even if it was always the supposed original plans for her. She was a great gateway to the Inhumans.
