Possible Thor Appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2?

Could Thor be showing up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 before his climactic third solo outing in Ragnarok?

Thanks for clicking! I will make this short, as this is meant to fuel a discussion thread. I spend a lot of time on this site, nearly every day, and I read a lot into theories of where the MCU is headed, and I was doing some thinking today about Thor and I think I landed on a thought that I haven't seen brought up.

At the end of Thor: The Dark World, we see Sif and Volstagg deliver the Aether to The Collector, setting up a potential connection between the worlds of Thor and the Guardians. It's safe to assume that they delivered this on Thor's orders. If this is the case, then Thor is well aware of The Collector's existence.

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor makes it quite clear that he is uneasy about the Infinity Gems and heads out on a journey to handle this issue.

One of these gems is in Vision's head. Thor knows this and trusts Vision after seeing that he handles Mjolnir.

One of these gems is on Xandar, this is likely unbeknownst to Thor, I assume we will see Thanos head for this one in GotG2.

One of these gems is on Asgard, where Loki secretly rules over it's keeping. I believe this will play into Ragnarok, with Loki being Odin being of great help to Thanos. For the moment Thor thinks it is safely under Odin's watchful eye. (Heh.)

One of these gems is the Aether, which was in The Collector's possession. It was not revealed whether or not he lost this, so we assume he still has it.

If Thor is looking for answers about these stones, and he believes that the ones on Earth and Asgard are safe, his first stop would logically be to seek out the Collector himself. I don't see Thor sending the Warriors Three after something so important following the events of Age of Ultron. I don't believe he knows that one of them is on Xandar, so this leads him to The Collector, and right in the path of the Guardians of the Galaxy. This is a perfect way to cross over if Marvel isn't going to us Planet Hulk to link an Avenger with the Guardians pre-Infinity War.

Now, there is always the chance that The Collector scene could happen in Thor: Ragnarok instead, but that would be a missed opportunity.

So what do you all think? Am I grasping at straws, did this seem obvious and just happen to go over my head, or am I on to something? Thanks for reading!

Hmm. Interesting. But I don't think Gunn would go this route. He has had Gotg 2 planned out since the first film. So I'm sure Thor would feel really shoehorned in. I myself believe Ragnarok will have nothing to do with the Infinity Stones. I'm betting that with Loki on the throne and not Odin, the prophecy will begin and Surtur will be unleashed. What I'm really anxious to see though, is how Thor stops it. Because it's supposed to happen. In mythology it's already happened several times before, and the Asgardians basically get reincarnated over and over. This part doesn't seem to be the case in the MCU. Since this generation of Asgardians has knowledge leading back to the creation of this universe. Can't wait to find out.

Thanks for reading. Definitely interesting to see the mythological differences. You don't think Gunn would even allow a small bit-part? I think at least, the after credits would tie the movies. At any rate, the tesseract is there and will need to be addressed, and this may be Asgard's last film.

An after credit scene could definitely be a possibility.

I think cycles like Ragnarok are a bigger aspect of the MCU than what many people seem to realise.

@NovaCorpsFan. Do you think Odin is already dead? Has it already started? Or do you think Thor 3 will start with that, and push Ragnarok through just the one film?

@WYLEEJAY
I'm pretty sure Odin's dead. When Loki is disguised as the guard and is telling Odin about finding a body, Odin says "Loki!" in less of a realisation kind of way, and more of a, "Holy shit Loki, you're about to kill me!" kind of way. So yeah, I'm pretty certain Loki outright murdered Odin right there and then.

@NovaCorpsFan. Oh wow. I never thought of it that way. They are gonna have to start teasing Thor 3 real soon. Cause I don't want it to get overshadowed by Infinity War. Civil War, Ragnarok and Infinity War all in one phase. With new characters getting introduced in their own films too! Sounds so epic. But I want Thor 3 to stand out.

I really hope we get some after credit scenes featuring Asgard because Ragnarok is long way away!

The way I'm thinking, Ragnarok is the trigger for Infinity War. But it'll be a while before I can explain that properly.

@NovaCorpsFan. Well I look forward to your next theory piece. I know you love to look into the cosmic side of all of this. So if you think Ragnarok will have a larger part of Phase 3 than we know of right now, I'm anxious to read it. I usually have some theories of my own, but this movie has me stumped as of right now. I just don't know what to expect. I want the definitive Thor film. I liked both the other ones. But each let me down in small ways. The Destroyer in the first. Then the lack of sorcery on Malekiths part, followed by Thor defeating him with really convenient technology. Hope the next plays into everything a lot better.

Thoughts on Thor appearing in GotG?

I reckon something Asgardian could definitely show up, not sure if it'd be Thor, but Asgardian things are quite likely.

@NovaCorpsFan @wyleejay - This is my new profile, I just wanted to look back and see how funny my theory was now that Thor is arriving in GotG3 instead of 2 like I thought lol.
