Marvel Comics is reviving its Ultimate line of comic books with Ultimate Invasion leading to a new Ultimate Spider-Man ongoing comic book. In turn, Ultimate Spider-Man will be joined by Ultimate Black Panther in February 2024 and Ultimate X-Men in March 2024.

To promote the launch of Ultimate Black Panther (written by Bryan Edward Hill and drawn by Stefano Casselli), Marvel previously released an intriguing trailer for the series which revealed that Storm and Killmonger will play important roles in the series. And thanks to a new interview, we have new details about their designs.

Previously, Storm and Black Panther were married and romantically involved in the main 616 Marvel Universe but it seems that in the comic publisher's revived Ultimate line of books, Storm will be paired with Killmonger. And it seems the latter has been reimagined as a freedom-fighting hero that's waging war against Moon Knight and his forces.

It seems Storm and Killmonger's fight against Moon Knight and Khonshu will lead to T'Challa and the forces of Wakanda stepping out of the shadows and joining their battle.

Although Stefano Casselli is drawing the series, Peach Momoko actually did the character designs for Storm and Killmonger.

Speaking to Marvel, Momoko stated, "I’ve always loved looking at outfits of tribes from all over the world. And combining the modern and tribal, the beauty and strong, is something I always love thinking about. And getting to design for Storm and Killmonger, I wanted to respect the characters and also put in my soul and unique vision into them."

In a previous interview, writer Bryan Hill stated, "I was invigorated by this opportunity because in addition to my immense respect for Jonathan Hickman’s detailed storytelling, the idea of shepherding this bold new take on Black Panther in this event gives me a platform to do the kind of broad, epic, storytelling I’ve always wanted to do in comics."

He went on to tease, "This is something people won’t expect, in the best of ways, and full credit to Marvel and editors Wil Moss and Michelle Marchese for bringing this creative possibility to me."

Marvel is being very cagey about their overall plans for the Ultimate line but they're describing its relaunch as something "born out of Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch's Ultimate Invasion series. The saga began with the Maker, one of the last survivors of the old Ultimate Universe, travelling back in time on a parallel Earth to create a world without heroes. He succeeded and ruled this world in secret through various global factions.

Now, he's vanished and a quiet war has broken out across the planet to shape what will happen to his kingdom. Some want to control the world. Some want to free it. After discovering the dark truth, a young Tony Stark embarks on a bold mission to make things right. Meanwhile, Wakanda stirs, pressured by internal and external forces to take its rightful place on the global stage.

Filled with modern takes on classic Marvel ideas and characters, the new Ultimate Universe is ripe for rich storytelling and a perfect evolution of the Ultimate brand."

@HeWhoBeatsDames - I mean tbf this is a wholly new universe. Tony is a teenager, Hulk is a villain and Reed is Dr Doom. I suppose this version or Killmonger will be very different (at least at the beginning) than the 616 and MCU versions!

I think Storm should hook up with Jericho Drumm (Dr. Voodoo). That would be one of the most powerful couples in all of Marvel

@Forthas - Brother Voodoo could be such a great character if they would just get a decent writer for him. Voodoo mythology has such a rich, untapped storytelling potential.

@soberchimera - Totally agreed. His story is more in line with divine magic use which is what they do for Moon Knight which I think is a mistake.

So guessing they are going to lean into the insane opinion of Killmonger being right

Or they are going to have a love triangle with T’Challa, Storm and Kilmonger that will end with him going full villain

"I wanted to respect the characters and also put in my soul and unique vision into them."

Immediate GTFO.

Anyone who says THEY have a 'Unique Vision' can [frick] right off.

That's not your call to make, sweetheart.

@Batmangina - Without that ‘unique’ vision, we would’ve never got TDKR or Watchmen.

This is an Elseworlds tale, which isn’t even canon. And you’re still against it. 😂

@FireandBlood - Point me to the links and quotes where Frank Miller and Alan Moore solicited sales talking about THEIR 'Unique Vision and Soul' before a single copy hit the stands.

It's douchey AF to say shit like that about yourself and equally as douchey to stick up for it.

What are you, 15?

This is how I would approach these characters if I were Marvel...

The premise of the ultimate edition of Black Panther sounds uninspiring. They need to step away from Konchu and all of the mystical stuff when it comes to Moon Knight. I would totally retcon Moon Knight's origin and make him similar to Green Goblin, create a mythology around their developing a super serum and high tech gadgets and how they parted ways and go on to becoming mortal enemies.

As far as Black Panther is concerned. I would establish Rhino as a rival force trying to take down Wakanda. Rhino would be the leader of exiled Wakandans who want to take over the nation. They develop a (Rhino) suit made of Osmium that is able to challenge the Black Panther and his vibranium suit. Kilmonger should be a sometimes ally and sometimes enemy of T'Challa just as he is currently.

I think that Storm and Jericho Drumm should have a secret love affair that is not allowed for a Sorcerer Supreme thereby making their relationship forbidden. When it is discovered Jericho should be stripped of his position of Sorcerer Supreme and forced to give up his use of Eldritch magic and become a user of divine magic or maybe chaos magic.

“Storm And Killmonger Are Romantically-Involved Freedom Fighters In ULTIMATE BLACK PANTHER”

Interesting! Can’t wait to see where that’s confirmed in the article itself!

“…it *seems* that in the comic publisher's revived Ultimate line of books, Storm will be paired with Killmonger.”

Oh, so the headline is just speculation? You’re gleaning this very specific detail based off of a single cover image and covering it up by inferring from statements that have zero to do with your lede? Crap work, Mark.

Not too long ago Michael B. Jordan shared a cryptic picture of Storm on his IG story. I wonder if he's hinting at something to be revealed in the MCU? Seems like Marvel is really pushing the ultimate comics and its also rumored that Marvel will go the ultimate route post Secret Wars. All of thus could be marketing to get everyone on the bandwagon before they pull the trigger.

Storm is an X-Man, Killmonger is a Black Panther villain, stop confusing me.

(he had the greatest mullet in the '70s, a whole river of mullet just pouring down his back, now he looks like a nobody)
