This October, Otto Octavius returns as the Superior Spider-Man! Creators Dan Slott and Ryan Stegman will be joined by superstar artists Mark Bagley, Giuseppe Camuncoli, and Humberto Ramos to deliver a giant-sized one-shot, Superior Spider-Man Returns, telling an untold story from this web-slinging menace's past.

It's all part of the character's 10th anniversary after Superior Spider-Man kicked off in 2013 when a dying Doctor Octopus swapped his mind into Peter Parker's body.

Determined to prove himself better in every single way, Doc Ock ruthlessly made his way through Spider-Man's legendary rogues' gallery, shocking fellow heroes with his violent approach to crimefighting before learning harsh lessons about great responsibility. Did Doc Ock have his fill of the web-head lifestyle or is he ready to trade in his metal arms and be the smartest, strongest superhero in the Marvel Universe once more?

The story was a controversial one at the time, and while this run earned plenty of fans by the time it concluded, the very idea of Otto being in control of Peter's body remains a problem for some.

However, in recent issues of Amazing Spider-Man, we've seen the villain in search of his missing memories and can't help but wonder if this story is going to set the stage for some sort of return down the line.

"A run that started with outrage ended with nearly universal accolades," Executive Editor Nick Lowe says. "So we were super excited to gather the folks who made Superior Spider-Man the historic book it was back together!"

Slott adds, "The challenge Marvel gave me was: for the 10th anniversary, how can we revisit Superior, without repeating ourselves, and while telling a story that impacts Spider-Man's world today?"

"Superior Spider-Man Returns is going to take an untold Superior tale, and drag it kicking, screaming, and violently exploding into the present. It's going to give you everything you liked about Superior but in new surprising ways. No time travel. No clones. And no way we're telling you how."

You know, it seems basically comical that Dan slott came up with the idea for superior spiderman. He's obsessed with doc ock. Now he gives us a Spiderman with the mind of doc ock? And he named this spiderman "superior"?

@Origame - you telling me its not in character for doc ock to call himself superior??? are we so removed from enjoying comics now that critical analysis of the creators every waking move removes the fun and imagination that comes from being in the marvel universe?

@supermanrex - ...where did I say it was out of character?

@Origame - because you had issue with slott naming the character superior. slott named the character superior because that is exactly how the character would name himself as doc ock is the ultimate narcissist.

@supermanrex - I'm talking about it from a meta perspective. He isn't known as superior in the book. Only out of the book. And its not like this sort of thing has happened before. Gwen Stacy didn't become girl power spiderwoman. She was known as spider Gwen. Spider ock would've been a fine name, but instead he went with superior spiderman because he's a fanboy.

@Origame - nah my dude. doc ock literally calls himself the Superior Spider Man in the comics when referring to himself especially during his internal rants.

@supermanrex - I'm talking about the name of the book. You're acting like it has to have the name the character calls himself. Again, spidergwen doesn't call herself spidergwen in the books.

Don’t care what Spider-Man fans say I like superior Spider-Man series it shows what Peter Parker could have done if he use his iq to fullest what is with weird finger nails on his feet and finger tips of his costume?

This proves Dan Slott has incriminating videos of someone. Or marvel genuinely don't care anymore. This run was pathetic, like basically anything Dan does and yet here we are as we've asked for this crap to return.

@braunermegda - clearly there were enough sales and demand the first time around that people seem to enjoy the concept of superior spiderman. so yes maybe YOU didnt ask, but clearly someone did and will buy this, read this and enjoy this.

The series was [frick]ing gold bro, idk what You guys are smoking. All of Slott's run is filled with comical misteps but not superior man, that should have lasted way way longer. Also Ryan Stegman is awesome, love his work
