The End Of Wolverine?

The End Of Wolverine?

Marvel have released this teaser image of a very Terminator-esque looking Logan...

The end eh? There really isn't any more info on this aside from what you see above. We know Marvel are currently running (the excellent) Old Man Logan story arc due to end next month, but this is clearly a younger version of the character. Its not the first time Marvel have "killed" Wolverine anyway, there have been several stories depicting the fate of ol Canucklehead.

So, are we finally, really going to see the death of Wolverine? It seems to be a trend in comics now to kill off major characters(Batman, Captain America) but since they never stay dead is there really a point? Sure the stories and the build ups can make for great reading but any dramatic impact is lost when we know its only a matter of time before we see out favorite heroes again. Plus, the amount of money Marvel make off Wolverine means i seriously doubt they would even consider keeping him six feet under.

But, anything is possible! Personally, i dont think Marvel would be silly enough to simply retread the recent death and resurrection of Captain America using Wolverine. So im thinking they must have something original up their sleeve...

Is this going to be in Messiah War?

Why kill Wolvie!?!?!?!

Can't they just kill Jean Grey again?

I can't see them actually killing him with them trying to make a second Wolverine movie. If they offed him they would perhaps lead up to his re-birth right before the second movie so everyone is on a Wolverine high.

they wont kill Wolverine-he's in about 15 different comic books each month, lol! Paul Jenkins' 'Wolverine: The End' from a few years back was awful (like everything else he writes) so hopefully it will be a much better version!

Here is a portion of an article I wrote about deaths in comicbooks. It's real funny check it out here.

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/ChroniclesofMoeniaArcis/news/?a=6649

Its best to think of Jean Grey as the Kenny of the X-Men, I know she is the Phoenix, which means death/ rebirth, but god its gotten redundant. I can count FOURTEEN DEATHS off the top of my head. And people are worried about her not coming ack in a new X-Men.
Here is a list and desricption of these cannon deaths, yes there are more.

1. Dies Piloting a Crashing Space Shuttle
Uncanny X-Men #101 (October 1976)
This is the first, brief death of Jean Grey. Jean emerges but its not Jean, Jean “died” This Jean is a “clone”.

2.Commits Suicide on the Moon
Uncanny X-Men #137 (September 1980)
This is after Dark phoenix destroy a star system, and Jean was placed on trial by the Shi’ar. Her friends fight to save her, she kills herself.

3. Erased from existence by Thanos
Infinity Gauntlet #1 (July 1991)
Using the Infinity Gems, Thanos erases half of the life in the Universe to impress Death. Jean doesn’t even get the honor of being killed on panel, she is just wiped out of existence.

4. Killed by Fitzroy’s Sentinels
Uncanny X-Men #281 (October 1991)
Sentinels kill the Hellions, and of course Jean Grey, who had managed to transfer her mind into Emma Frost just before her body dies. Jean of course, is transferred back into her own body by Xavier a few issues later. Though they never answer the question of how you can transfer a living mind into a dead body.

5.Jean murdered by Havok
X-Men: Omega (June 1995)
Even though it was the Age Of Apocalypse it is still counted as a cannon death.

6. Stabbed by Wolverine on remains of Asteroid M,
New X-Men #148 (October 2003)
Basically Magneto infiltrated the X-Men under the guise of Xorn. He trapped Wolverine and Phoenix on the remains of Asteroid M. Which he then plunged the into the sun. Wolverine got the bright idea to spare Jean the suffering of being burnt alive. So he stabbed her with his claws.
Jean died, and came back as Phoenix and flew them back to Earth to fight Magneto.

7. Murdered by “Xorn” (Magneto)
New X-Men #150 (December 2003)
Unfortunately, this did not end well for Jean, of course. He killed Jean with a magnetic pulse that caused a stroke.

8-13. Fatally stabbed SIX SEPERATE TIMES by Wolverine
Phoenix: Endsong #3 (April 2005)
This could actually be counted as six separate deaths.
Basically an injured Phoenix force makes it way to earth, it brings Jean back to life to heal itself, because naturally she is the least likely Marvel character to die. Jean asks Wolverine to keep killing her to weaken the Phoenix, great plan and sacrifice. He does so, disembowelling her six times. Each time she dies the Phoenix resurrects Jean.

14. Submerges herself in glacier
Phoenix: Endsong #3 (April 2005)
Jean submerges herself in a glacier. The end for now.
There are more Jean deaths that are not considered cannon, many more.

Be sure to check out the rest of the article.

Well, it means SOMETHING SirPrize. Its all over the internet and gaining a lot of publicity so i figured it was worth speculating on. As for Marvel not killing off one of their main characters, you did hear all about that Cap America thing right? And Dc killed frakking Batman! Anythings possible...

JoshWilding - 6/24/2009, 4:04 PM
they should just bring back Jean and forget the pheonix-as THEHAWK has shown, she has died and been resurrected so many times that its meaningless! bring her back and keep her back for good, not just kill her again as its an easy plot device!

Well... I would have to say, this looks like a rehashing of the "End" stories that Marvel was crapping out a few years ago (thanks joshw24). If that's the case, these guys are getting a little overboard with all of the stand alone projects they've been working on (Marvel Apes?? Marvel Pets?? Marvel Monsters Led By Fin Fang Foom Wearing Incredibly Large Diaper????), and I hope they give it a rest real soon!!

If not, I think I've just landed in an issue of "What the ?!", and I might need the Beyonder to give me a ride home. Otherwise, I'll be late for dinner.

Or perhaps, it would be more accurate to say an issue of "What If?", where Quesada wonders what would happen if he lost his damned mind, and is not only started overcharging us all for the titles they're releasing monthly, but also that it would be a good idea to kill off all of their title characters, and replacing them with half-assed sidekick types to boost sales?... wait...

THERES SHOULD BE A WORD SAYING"KILLING A CHARACTER AND THEN BRINGING HIM BACK"-----LETS CALL IT A "DOOBIE"------SMOKING A CHARACTER-THEN AFTER THE HAZE, THEM COMING BACK-----A DOOBIE

Thinking about it, since this has nothing to do with a movie it probably shouldnt be on the front page..find it in news folks!

could it possibly Ultimate Wolverine? Many characters have been dying in the current ULTIMATUM story

I don't want to bust your jaw Ror. It is fun to speculate about these things. That's what Marvel wants us to do by releasing these little tidbits here and there.

This might actually mean that wolvie will die and it is possible because in a recent storyline Wolverine made a deal in order to get back a portion of his soul back he could no longer die and come back. If it is true (which would be stupid) I just hope they dont replace him with Daken.

its the Ultimatum #5 variant cover where wolvie "dies" after cyclops and iron man blast his flesh off his adamantium bones, which are they dissinegrated by magneto... but wolverins hand is still intact...
