Magic in the MCU has not been explained very well, if at all. We have been told over and over that magic is "science we dont understand", but what does that mean? In this article I shall endeavour to explain what magic is, how it is performed and how the mystic dimensions shall be portrayed.
THE MYSTIC DIMENSIONS.
We have already had a glimpse of the microverse in Antman and some people have wondered what would have happened if Scott hadn't stopped shrinking. It is my theory that he would have entered one of the mystic dimensions.
M-theory is a theory in physics that unifies all concepts of superstring theory. M-theory states that there are 11 dimensions and that humans can only see 3 and experience 4. In theory there are several dimensions where space and time follow totally different rules, and these dimensions are curled up beyond the subatomic level, which is why scientists cannot see them. These dimensions would be totally alien to us as there is either no light or light behaves differently. everything would be shaped differently and you would see your whole life flash before your eyes, literaly. It is my theory that these dimensions are the mystic dimensions of Dr. Strange.
DORMAMMU.
It seems that since Dr. Strange will be introducing these higher dimensions, Dormammu will be a 5th dimensional being. Even though Dormmamu's origin would be different from the comics he could still be shown with lore accurate powers. A 5th dimensional being would have the following abilities:
1. ACCELERATED PROBABILITY: Foresee events and know exactly what to do to make them happen.
2. DIMENSIONAL INDEPENDANCE: Move in and out of dimensions and time travel.
3. TRANSMUTATION: Transform anything you wish.
4. NIGH OMNISCIENCE: Know what is happening or will happen within your sphere of influence.
5 PARADOX INDUCEMENT: Affect reality illogicaly.
6. PROBABILITY MANIPULATION: Make things have a higher or lower chance of happening.
Dormammu has many of these abilities though they are explained differently in the comics; for instance accelerated probability would be called divination.
Even though Dormammu would not have the comic origin he could still have the same look.
GEOMETRY AND MAGIC.
Antman entered the subatomic dimension through shrinking but how exactly will the good Dr. enter the mystic dimensions and cast spells? I believe Strange shall use the power of telekinesis and... GEOMETRY!
I believe that Strange will create geometric symbols which will be flat at first but will then turn into 4 or 5 dimensional telekinetic objects used to shift him into other dimensions. How else is Strange going to enter the mystic realms, by shrinking himself!? If Marvel has Dr. Strange shrinking himself fans will be up in arms which is why geometric portals are the only possible solution.
Strange will likely also use geometric telekinetic symbols to harness the power of other dimensions for his spells. In the comics Strange uses symbols all the time so the best way to introduce them on film would be for them to harness dimensional energy.
THE EYE OF AGAMOTTO.
It is all but confirmed that the Eye is the time stone and I believe that it is also the key to the Dr.'s understanding of the other dimensions.
If you were taken into another dimension by a extra-dimensional being you wouldn't be able to understand it. You would see things your mind couldn't comprehend and your brain might explode from the shock! I believe that the Eye, because of it's time control powers, will be used by the Ancient One to allow Strange to comprehend the other dimensions, because if Strange couldn't comprehend what he was doing he would be the worst sorceror ever.
INCANTATIONS.
Incantations may seem unscientific but if you look at them with the knowledge of higher dimensional energy you see they can be explained.
In higher dimensions sound does not work the same way as it does on earth, for instance a whisper in another dimension might be a deafening roar that could destroy a building. I believe Strange will channel his voice through extra-dimensional energy to produce various effects
IN CONCLUSION
The mystic dimensions are just beyond the microverse. Dormammu is an extra dimensional being. Dr. Strange will use telekinesis and geometry to go to other dimensions and cast spells. Incantations are sound being channeled through other dimensional energy. The Eye of Agamotto will allow Strange to understand the other dimensions.
