THE SENTRY: Marvel Comics Reveals New Heroes Who Inherit The Mantle - Will This Inspire THUNDERBOLTS?

Marvel Comics has released a new look at The Sentry series coming this December and three of the characters who will inherit Bob Reynolds' God-like powers. Take a closer look at the trio after the jump...

This December, The Sentry will return to the Marvel Universe in an all-new series from writer Jason Loo (X-Men Unlimited) and artist Luigi Zagaria (Midnight Suns).

The saga of Bob Reynolds and the Sentry was one of the defining Marvel Comics mysteries of the 2000s, and now, the publisher will reveal a whole new layer behind Marvel's Golden Guardian. Bob Reynolds is long gone, but the limitless power of the Sentry can never be destroyed, and if he doesn’t return to claim it, others will...

Who will be next to wield the power of a million exploding suns?

Today, we have a first look at a few of the new characters who will seize on the opportunity to take over as Sentry. From various walks of life, some will use the power to make the world a better place while others will unleash its full destructive potential. In the end, only one will walk away as the new Sentry - ready to impact the Marvel Universe for better or for worse.

"This entire series is a mystery where we follow Jessica Jones and Misty Knight as they figure out these catastrophic accidents caused by random strangers with the Sentry’s powers," Loo explains. "You're going to witness a bunch of origin stories, like Mallory Gibbs, a writer for Front Line news who lives with cerebral palsy."

"Farhad Anand is a mutant keeping a low profile as a DoorDish bicycle courier. And Ryan Topper, a teenage fanboy who gets to live his dream of becoming a super hero. And there are a few more further into the story. But the real question is...how are they all connected to Robert Reynolds?"

It's an intriguing premise and one we can't help but wonder might be tied to Marvel Studios' own plans for The Sentry. The character is expected to be played by Steven Yeun in Thunderbolts and we've already seen Marvel Comics launch a title with the upcoming movie's line-up of heroes.

Kevin Feige is more hands-on with publishing these days, so the idea of The Sentry's power being transferable...well, that could be an idea that the MCU has a lot of fun with next December...

The Sentry is dead, but ordinary people all over the world are suddenly manifesting his powers and experiencing snippets of Bob Reynolds’ memories. But not everyone can be trusted with such responsibility, sparking a violent conflict to control the Sentry’s legacy. Will one of them survive long enough to emerge as the new Sentry? Or will their newfound power destroy them? When Misty Knight and Jessica Jones cross paths in search of answers, they open an investigation that will change everything you think you know about the Sentry!

I simply cannot wait to see the new non-binary LGBTQ+ Sentry who will obviously become THE new powerhouse of the Marvel Universe, shitting on the powers of the heroes and villains around they/them! It's going to be so [frick]ing woke and awesome!

@Demigods - I swear, we can just make up random diverse changes marvel or dc could make and it'll happen like a week later.

@Demigods - They're just trying to ride today's trends, comics have always been throwing ideas at the board until they strike gold.

For every A-list character that are huge successes, you have 10 B-list that are loved and 30 C-list that everybody forgot they ever existed.

The real question is what will be the next trend after we're done with this inclusivity and LGTB fad. I'd say it's going to be another 3 to 5 years until kids move on to something else.

hahaha why is Farhad wearing Firefighting boots and why does he loose his pedo-beard when he gains powers?? This seems like such a stupid [frick]ing abortion of an idea that I wonder if the entire thing is some half brained idea to just make a Sentry Family, Ala Shazam.

Feminist gotta capitalize and push their agenda as much they can in make-believe world because once reality hits and WW3 comes around the corner we all know who’ll be fighting the war and who’ll be hiding behind movies and entertainment. No all women team is going to take down Putin I can promise you.

"Mallory Gibbs, a writer for Front Line news who lives with cerebral palsy."

Sorry, unless she has a peanut allergy and an irrational phobia, I don't feel represented enough here. HARD PASS!

They literally tore the OG character to pieces for the sake of "Diversity". Calling it now, Ryan is definitely the pillow biter of the group.

They made Sentry Shazam. Very original Marvel.

I just don’t want Bob to be thrown out. I would be annoyed if he gives one of these guys all his power and name and retires or dies. Listen I don’t mind more “sentries”. But don’t kill off or replace Bob.

Thank goodness, once again the power of race swapping diversity saves Marvel comics!

It'll be fascinating to see how they draw a character with cerebral palsy without either minimising it or going full r****

And this is why modern comics suck,Making Sentry a diverse family of characters won't increase sales and bring in new readers.

The real question is why is Farhad wearing his boots inside of his costume? lol

Think that's actually a pretty cool premise if they keep it a mystery and not transform it into a Shazam family adventure
