ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1 Preview Finally Gives Fans What They Want: Peter Parker As A Husband And Father

Forged by Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch in the recent Ultimate Invasion limited series, Marvel's new Ultimate Universe will be home to radical transformations of our favourite heroes, and nowhere will this be more apparent than in the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man

Written by Hickman and illustrated by acclaimed artist Marco Checchetto, this is the first ongoing series of the new Ultimate line and presents a startling twist to the Spider-Man mythos. After the Maker used time travel to create a world without heroes, Peter Parker lived a relatively normal life, marrying Mary Jane and building a family which includes two children.

Now, it’s time to set things right! Learning the truth behind his reality, Peter will step up to become the Amazing Spider-Man the world didn't know it was missing.

In this first look at Ultimate Spider-Man #1 ahead of its release in stores this Wednesday, we see that this world's Peter has finally grown up. However, as this version of the character was never bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, he isn't Spider-Man yet and will gain those spectacular powers as an adult.

It's an intriguing dynamic and one which means neither Richard nor May (his and MJ's children) will have spider-powers. We're not sure how Peter will balance being a husband and parent with becoming a superhero, though something tells us that will be part of the fun with this Ultimate Spider-Man relaunch.

For those of you wondering, this is a completely new Peter Parker in a cloned version of Earth-616 which The Maker - the evil Ultimate Reed Richards - remade in his image, rewriting history to stop certain heroes, like Spidey, from ever being created. Tony Stark/Iron Lad has set out to make things right, of course, hence why Spider-Man is finally swinging into action.

"When we decided that we were going to do a book about an older Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man, we really wanted to lean into him starting his super hero life from a very different place than what's traditionally expected," Hickman previously said. "Peter and MJ being married is one of many decisions we made that underline this being quite a 'different' kind of Spider-Man story."

Uh...didn't we have the husband/father Peter Parker in the Spider-Girl comics??? Still holding out hope Sony come to their senses and give us that for Raimi's Spider-Man 4 or a Spider-Girl spin off.

@UniqNo - yes 30 years ago. But for the last 15 years we've had OMD and the Spidey editors destroy the marriage and we currently have a cuckold 616 Peter Parker who MJ left for some guy with a man bun.

@Makiveli21 - Seriously? Does anyone buy these comics?

Are there any modern comic runs worth reading?

Not EXACTLY what fans wanted, but close enough I guess. I just wonder how long the comic will last.

We need to see Peter Parker as a WIFE and MOTHER.

Maybe he could get bitten by a radioactive BIRTHING PERSON

@Batmangina - Random insertion of politics for no real reason, as far as I can tell.

@dagenspear - It's not politics, sir. I am merely requesting proper representation and DEI in my comic book choices.

@Batmangina - It is indeed politics.

@dagenspear - It is the need for accurate representation. Do you not have Marvel VOICES on your pull list?

But it's not in the 616 universe.

@marvel72 - And then having him get his powers as a grown man married with children? As if just being an ordinary dude with those great responsibilities aren't stressful enough. Marvel REALLY hates Spider-Man.

@TheLight - I know, right? I'm a grown man married with children and some days I'm too stressed to even put on my Spider-Man onesy let alone go stop crime and shit. Marvel CLEARLY doesn't give a shit about Peter's blood pressure. *sigh*

I just realised something...

From the way this new ultimate universe is birthed...it reminds me alot of Superman Secret Identity and Bamtan Creature of the Night....two amazing books btw...

Did anyone else pick up on this or is it just me?? Can't wait to see if DC do a version for wonder woman.

@UniqNo - What do you mean? I read those books. Like real world dudes with the same name and the comics stuff is worked in there in all meta, but... I still don't get it? Elucidate pls.

@ObserverIO - From some of what ive read.

The character in this world had no powers so the only similarity until its all bestowed on them is their names.

All of a sudden they have powers and may get to a point they realise theyre powers are based off the 616 univerise which may be fictional to them?

Kind of a leap i know, but reading Peter parker never had powers but is a refular family man and ends up with the powers just reminded me of secret identity. Not read it for a whild though.

Naming your kids after your parents is so weird.
Like I understand giving them middle names but first names is so odd
