X-MEN ORIGINS: BLUE Will Finally Reveal The Truth About Nightcrawler's Birth This November

Most movie studios may have decided to skip this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, but there's plenty of comic book news! Now, we've learned of big plans for Nightcrawler in the pages of X-Men Origins: Blue.

During the "Designing the X-Men" at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, a tease of what's next for the mutant mythos was revealed by Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, Senior Editor Jordan D. White, and Editor Sarah Brunstad.

Amongst the exciting teasers for the X-Men's next era was the announcement of a brand-new one-shot which promises to shed light on a historic Marvel Comics mystery: X-Men Blue: Origins #1. Written by Si Spurrier and illustrated by artist Wilton Santos, it will at long last provide the definitive origin story for Nightcrawler.

Since his earliest days with the X-Men under writer Chris Claremont, the circumstances of Nightcrawler's birth have been the subject of rumours, half-truths, and heartbreak.

Now, Spurrier, who's guided the character through the Krakoan age as well as his upcoming journey through Fall of X in Uncanny Spider-Man, clears away all the lies you've been told and delivers the truth about Mystique and Nightcrawler once and for all.

You think you know how the beloved blue devil came into this troubled world? You think you know the tale of his mendacious mamma Mystique? You don't! Mother and son reunite in what looks set to be a mould-shattering tale that exposes secrets held for decades and redefines both characters forever.

"It’s not often you get the chance to shine new light into the origins of a truly beloved character. To do so for two at once is an unprecedented privilege," Spurrier says. "With this book, we’re breaking new ground in more ways than one."

"We’re walking this path with the deepest love for Nightcrawler and Mystique, and the deepest respect for the formative stories that surround them. And yet...by shifting perspective...by wondering which parts of the standard history can be trusted and which are unreliable...by climbing into the minds and memories of mother and son alike...we’re enriching their shared tale in a way that will cast fertile shadows across everything they do from now onwards."

"This is one of those books that will be discussed for years to come," the writer concludes.

@TempleRod - Oh yeah, Uncanny Spider-Man. It's just insulting the things they are doing now. Comics died a long time ago. If DC and Marvel didn't have the backing of WB and Disney respectively, they would have thrown in the towel a few years back. Because sales are currently the worst they've ever been. Even worse than when Marvel filed bankruptcy in the past.

So many bad stories. All they rely on are character deaths to sell stories, even though everyone knows the characters will return, usually sooner than later. And revisiting old storylines and making changes to the lore. And finally, cultural war politics being jammed into their comics.

I really don't know why all these companies (not just comic companies) can't figure out that when they take sides of a controversial issue currently going on in the world, they are going to alienate a portion of their customer base. No matter what side you choose, there will be people on the other side that will stop supporting your company. Bud Light, Target, and Starbucks are learning that lesson right now.

None of these things help anything. DC and Marvel need to go back to the way comics worked in the 90's. And I'm not talking about all the edgy stuff that was in the actual comics back then. I'm talking about the format of selling their books.

It must be a real hassle or Kurt to pull that spandex onto his tail.

On a pure visual standpoint. Seeing him as uncanny spiderman is amazing. The design and and his abilities with that suit are the chefs kiss. And with what they are doing with the spider verse, it really opens up so many possibilities for these amalgam of characters

I wonder if he has web shooters. Or if he simply just teleports. A combination of both would be cooler

@Vigor - LOL, you actually said 'chef's kiss'

@Vigor - "wonder if he has web shooters. Or if he simply just teleports." With that line you hi-light the massive flaw in the idea
Vigor
Vigor - 7/21/2023, 8:30 AM
@Radders - I'm not so sure. Afterall venom used his tentacles to get around before the symbiote bonded with Peter Parker. Then he relied on webs and seldom used tentacles.

With the right creative team, Kurt can use web shooters to bind enemies and get around via teleport. He misses spidermans superior strength and spider sense. But as an otherworld friendly neighborhood spiderman, he fits the mythos in a weird way. Peter swings around At night stopping bad guys looking like a kid in a suit. Kurt teleports at night stopping bad guys looking like a demon

@Vigor - But....the symbiote bonded with Peter Parker first. There was no Venom before it bonded with Peter.

@CorndogBurglar - you know what. Good point. That damn Sony venom movie is throwing off my knowledge
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/21/2023, 2:09 PM
@Vigor - There was a definite change though. When Eddie Brock was first Venom he shot webs out of the back of his hand. But at some point he was using the suit as tentacles instead of webs to swing around. I don't know what it is nowadays.

Another Josh Wilding hack piece of copy-and-paste. Take the Marvel press release which you can see at https://www.marvel.com/articles/comics/sdcc-2023-x-men-blue-origins-1-nightcrawler-origin-revealed, paste it on CBM under his own byline and faster than you can say "Bamf!" he has an article. What a hack.
