James Cameron used the San Diego Comic-Con to debut his long-awaited feature film return, Avatar, because he said he's a fan, just like everyone in attendance. Watch this very personal and very touching introduction to the film:

(((Sorry about the camera flicker; it's from all of the flashes going off in the auditorium)))

Cameron said that he didn't want to tell any more about the movie or the story so that he could "hold back something for the fun of the voyage." Before leaving the stage he asked:

"How many of you have ever wanted to go to another planet? Second question: Are you ready to go to Pandora?"

Cameron declared August 21st "Avatar Day" and said that a "global audience" will be afforded a free screening of 15 minutes of Avatar at IMAX and 3-D theaters around the world.

Avatar opens December 18th!

So.... "free screening". Does that mean that I will be let into the IMAX for free for that 15 minutes or does that mean it will be shown before a movie like a trailer? Guess I'll have to Google it, because Cameron's statements are highly vague.

Oh yeah. I agree this sounds like a major cinematic event. CAMERON'S Avatar looks and sounds amazing.

But I was like you, Vonstallin. I thought this was about that Last Airbender thing which sounds like it's about weaponizing flatulence.

i can´t believe Cameron didn´t have the guts to show actual footage in the comiccon.

he HAS shown some footage in the last two weeks, to foreign and domestic (usa) distributors.

he kind of built the hype to get to the ComicCon in time to show some footage to the public (according to Variety and Hollywood Reporter)...but no. he had second thoughts about it. i am very dissapointed.

really? well i can´t see the video from here. i mean he accompanied his "introduction" with actual footage??

then what do they mean with "Cameron said that he didn't want to tell any more about the movie or the story so that he could "hold back something for the fun of the voyage." "??

so is this why The Last Airbender is called the Last Airbender because this movie is called AVATAR?

Terminator 2, Aliens, and True Lies were all amazing films. I think his track record has shown us he can do the incredible. I mean, he did develop a special camera just for this film. I wonder if we're going to need a special TV like cinemas need better projectors to show off this movie.
