Comic-Con 2018: Here Are All The Biggest Reveals And Newsworthy Moments From Day One

Comic-Con is in full swing in San Diego and yesterday saw a lot of big news items land online. We covered most of these on the site but there's a lot here which we didn't get time to touch on so this is your definitive guide to everything that happened at the event on Thursday. That includes news on The Walking Dead, Spider-Man PS4, various new DC comic books and TV shows, and a whole lot more.

From Grant Morrison's return to DC to a footage description for Predator and first looks at Titans and Iron Fist, you'll find it all here! Later today, we should have news on the likes of Bumblebee, The Walking Dead, and Venom, so stay tuned for that and then another recap tomorrow. In the meantime, all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button below to see this breakdown in its entirety...

Andrew Lincoln Is Definitely Leaving The Walking Dead

There's been a lot of speculation that Andrew Lincoln's departure from The Walking Dead may not actually be happening and that AMC is simply attempting to misdirect us in a bid to keep fans of the zombie drama on their toes. Unfortunately, that was indeed wishful thinking because Robert Kirkman has now confirmed that the actor - and thereby Rick Grimes - are definitely finished with the show.

"He wants to do something special on the way out," the comic book creator and executive producer explains. "We’ve got something amazing planned. I wouldn’t want to spoil anything, but anybody who’s been a fan of his journey, who loves Rick Grimes, who loves the world of The Walking Dead, you’re going to want to see what we do." Here's hoping he does ultimately get a satisfying sendoff.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Is FInally Returning

In news which was definitely welcomed by fans, a tenth anniversary panel for Star Wars: The Clone Wars confirmed that those who have spent years Tweeting "#SaveCloneWars" can now put up #CloneWarsSaved" instead! The show chronicled the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith and it will return for a total of twelve episodes (wrapping things up) on Disney's upcoming streaming service in the not too distant future.

Geoff Johns Will Once Again Write Shazam!

Geoff Johns and Gary Frank teamed up to bring Shazam back to the DC Universe near the start of The New 52 and he ultimately ended up joining the Justice League. Now, we're finally getting a monthly title for the character which is going to launch in November with Johns back on writing duties and art from Dale Eaglesham. Unfortunately, no further details about its direction have been revealed yet.

Based on this cover, though, it's going to be a pretty light and breezy affair and the rest of the Shazam family will also be making appearances. Whether or not they'll be in the movie remains to be seen.

Doctor Who Is Back For Season 11

Doctor Who was the focus of Entertainment Weekly's Comic-Con cover this year but it wasn't until yesterday that we got our first proper look at Jodie Whittaker's version of the classic sci-fi character.

Promising "new friends, new worlds, new times," this footage also shows off the Doctor's new companions: Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill, and Tosin Cole. Even if you're not a fan of the BBC series, it does look like a lot of fun and seeing a woman finally take on the role should generate lots of interest.

Predator Vs. Predator

Unfortunately, we weren't treated to a new trailer for Predator during the movie's Comic-Con panel yesterday but we did get a very cool poster which you can check out by clicking here. According to Shane Black, the aliens aren't happy about the champions they send to Earth not returning and that's why they're not unleashing a Super Predator who they hope will be able to get the job done.

A number of clips were shown promising plenty of humour and an R-Rating but the highlight was reportedly some Predator vs. Predator action, something which obviously adds a new dimension to the franchise (and has been glimpsed in a number of recent TV spots). While this was a Fox panel, there was, unfortunately, no sign of anything for Marvel movies Dark Phoenix or The New Mutants

Iron Fist Season 2 Gets A Premiere Date

Things are finally looking up for Iron Fist because it was revealed last night that the show will return to Netflix on September 7th. That was far from the only big reveal during this panel, though, because Alice Eve is going to be taking on the role of classic Daredevil villain Typhoid Mary in the series.

Luke Cage star Simone Missick will also be making an appearance as Misty Knight, presumably bringing her and Colleen Wing one step closer to becoming the Daughters of the Dragon! Perhaps most exciting is the news that a clip was shown featuring Danny Rand wearing his classic mask from the comics.

The Green Lantern

In some of the most exciting news from Comic-Con, it was revealed that Grant Morrison is finally returning to the DC Universe for The Green Lantern. The series will revolve around Hal Jordan as he attempts to enforce the law in outer space and the writer will be joined by artist Liam Sharp. It's been a while since Hal received the spotlight in a solo series so this title promises to be a must-buy when it launches in November (in what's actually looking like a pretty huge month for DC Comics so far).

Stargirl Is Coming To The DC Universe

Adding yet another live-action series to the DC Universe streaming service, Geoff Johns has announced that Stargirl will premiere in 2019 and that it has a 13-episode order. According to the official synopsis for the show, it will focus on Courtney Whitmore "who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new DC Universe series reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series."

Stargirl was the first character Johns created when he arrived in DC so you can see why he's excited to bring the hero to life on the small screen. Needless to say, Warner Bros. is clearly investing a lot in original content for DC Universe but whether or not that will pay off hinges on those all-important subscription numbers. With this many shows, though, there will be something for everyone.

Spider-Man PS4 Gets A Story Trailer

Marvel Games held a panel last night and while we didn't get a huge number of reveals relating to future releases, a very impressive story trailer for Spider-Man was released along with confirmation that Silver Sable will appear in the game. Finally shedding some light on what's to come for the wall-crawler here, a number of new suits were also revealed which you can take a look at right here.

Three Jokers Is Coming From Geoff Johns

When DC Rebirth was launched, Batman discovered that there are, in fact, three different Jokers. Since then, we've heard nothing more about what that means but it more than likely has something to do with the DC Universe's broken timeline and many continuities. Now, a first look at the series has been revealed and while it doesn't clear anything up, we do have a better idea of what exactly to expect.

Batman, Batgirl, and the Red Hood will be teaming up to try and figure things out, while the series - which is based within the main DC Universe - is being released under Johns' new "Black Label."

The First Trailer For Titans

"F*** Batman!" That's what Robin says in this R-Rated, dark, and edgy first trailer for Titans and it's left fans talking for a good twenty-four hours now. Some are excited for this take on the team while others seem pretty horrified and have enjoyed poking fun at the tone and overly violent and brutal visuals.

In fairness, it's clear that this trailer is made up from relatively early footage and it would be unfair to judge it on this alone. However, Warner Bros. is risking alienating a lot of viewers from the off because moviegoers have made it clear they don't necessarily want their superheroes dark and brooding.

The Snyder Cut Isn't Coming To Comic-Con

As expected, the Snyder Cut doesn't exist and Warner Bros. won't be announcing it at Comic-Con tomorrow. A lengthy report from The Wall Street Journal confirmed that Zack Snyder isn't working on a director's cut and has never seen the version of Justice League that was released theatrically, while various insiders and studio execs made it clear that there isn't a totally different cut being hidden!

The Walking Dead Season 9 Trailer Sneak Peek

The first trailer for The Walking Dead season nine will be released later today but, in the meantime, we have a new sneak peek at that. As you can see, it appears as if a civil war may be brewing between these different communities as Maggie and Daryl continue considering doing things their own way. Negan can also be heard issuing a dire warning here, probably to Rick based on the comic books!

Comcast Is No Longer In The Bidding Race For Fox

In what might be the best piece of news to come out of Comic-Con, it was officially announced yesterday that Comcast has dropped out of the bidding race for 21st Century Fox and that leaves the door wide open for Disney to acquire the company and bring the X-Men and Fantastic Four home.

All Disney has to do now is get through the regulatory process and then work can begin on making these characters part of the same world as The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Spider-Man.

A Deadpool 2 Star Is Joining Joker

Zazie Beetz stole the show in Deadpool 2 and she's now eyeing up a lead role in Joker opposite Joaquin Phoenix. Apparently, she'll play "a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the Clown Prince of Crime" in what is quite clearly a huge departure from the comic books. The project has some potential, though, and with an A-List cast, here's hoping it doesn't end up disappointing.

Aquaman Is Being Relaunched By Kelly Sue DeConnick

With a movie on the horizon, DC is going back to the drawing board with Aquaman and that's going to include a new series from writer Kelly Sue DeConnick and artist Robson Rocha. In the title, Arthur Curry washes up on an island with no memory of who he is. While attempting to rediscover who he is, the King of Atlantis meets former sea gods that have been forgotten and were also marooned there.

"It’s in many ways an examination of who the character is, kind of in the vein of Daredevil: Born Again and Batman Year One," revealed DC CCO/co-Publisher Jim Lee during a panel yesterday.

Most excited about everything Geoff is doing (DClock, Shazam, 3 Jokers) and now even Morrison is back in the hooooouse! :D
Add the fact the we also have Tom King and (eventhough i'm not their biggest fan) guys like Snyder and Bendis, DC has basically all the big names in the comicbook industry!

Very happy about SW TCW's revival
For now, these are the biggest reveals for me.

That new Green Lantern title sounds cool - I think I'm gonna pick that one up when it comes out.

A mask has appeared in Iron Fist... that's encouraging!

But ultimately - I'm just waiting patiently for Spidey PS4. Won't be long now!

I get the feeling that this is going to be a fairly underwhelming Comic Con compared to previous years.

Ugh. My least favorite writer writing my 1A favorite superhero is like a reoccurring nightmare. I don’t know how many issues of Green Lantern I’ll be able to take before giving up.

Spider-Man PS4 looks insane. Also pay attention to the Marvel panel today if there is one. James Gunn is supposed to attend but got mobbed on Twitter last night and is trending today. People have dug up some very suggestive tweets from the 2010's. Some jokey, some just plain dark. But hundreds of them revolving around a very dark subject. It's a mix of DC trolls, right-wing pundits and normal people genuinely concerned about what he may be talking about. If he cancels on the panel last minute, that's kind of a big deal. He explained a little but has been deleting tweets in bulk all night. We'll see what happens, just something to watch for today.

[frick] the walking dead. I love Rick Grimes & that's exactly why I WON'T be tuning in to see what happens. I honestly hope everyone else jumps ship too, & I have a feeling they will.

It seems I'm the only one here who feels this way, but I'm not a huge fan of Grant Morrison. I'll pass on his version of green lantern.

Can someone help me out with this? I thought marvel specifically said their game panel would be crazy, with news about previously unannounced games. Wtf happened there? How did we end up with almost nothing, just a tiny bit on the new Spider-Man game?

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait, it looks fantastic. But I don't get how they explicitly said they'd show something new, then literally just talked about the one game everybody already knew about.

Honestly Clone Wars has won comic con for me so far. Gotta see if Glass or Aquaman trailers draw more hype from me. (Let’s be honest, Glass is gonna sh@t on everything else)
