Comic Con Strikes A Deal To Stay In San Diego Through 2021

After another intense round of negotiations, Comic Con and the city of San Diego have reached an agreement to keep the largest pop culture event in the world in the city for the foreseeable future.

Comic Con has been a mainstay in San Diego since the 1970s. The event which gathers all comic, movie and pop culture together has been in danger of leaving the city on a couple of different occasions, but a deal was struck in 2015 to keep the Con where it was until 2018.

Those in fear that Comic Con might be leaving the city can put those fears to rest, as San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has now announced a new deal that will keep the event in San Diego until 2021. “San Diego has always been the proud home of Comic-Con and we are extremely pleased that we can carry on that tradition of being the destination for the world’s premier celebration of the popular arts,” Faulconer said. “San Diegans can be excited to know that Comic-Con will continue to pump millions of dollars into our economy to support local jobs, street repair and neighborhood services. It is more important than ever that we continue to push to expand the convention center so we can ensure Comic-Con and other large conventions continue to stay in San Diego for years to come.”

“While it did take more than a year in negotiations, we are pleased with this outcome,” Comic-Con spokesman David Glanzer added. “We are grateful for the leadership of Mayor Faulconer and the hard work of those at the San Diego Tourism Authority who were instrumental in securing this agreement.“

The 48th annual San Diego Comic-Con gets underway in a few weeks, from July 20-23. For the latest stories, make sure to check out the Comic Con page on the CBM Index.

@incredibleTalk - I know right? Now thanks to the mayor of San Diego I finally know the proper term for people from San Diego. San Diegans. I've been wondering that since watching Anchorman.

@incredibleTalk - @PriyankaLover - Sorry this is off topic, but:

I just saw LEGO Batman and noticed at the end, the Bat Family (sans Batman) gave the villains who helped them a 5 minute head start, which I thought was a nod to the Justice League, at the end of the JLU animated series, who gave the villains who helped them a 30 minute head start.

However, I've looked through every online "this is all the easter eggs we've found" thing and either no one caught this or no one considered it a real nod. Does anyone else agree or remember this?

Baby Driver is good but it suffers a pretty big whoops with 15 mins to go, however recovers for it's final 5 mins.

Without the whoops it's a A-
With the whoops it's B.

@IronGenesis - And Amy Pascal said:

"The success of both Baby Driver and Spiderman Homecoming will be because of the passion and dedication from the production team. Going forward Sony wants to unify all of it's properties under one cohesive banner. In other words Baby Driver, Spiderman Homecoming, Venom, and so on will be Sony films first and connected second. We want to build a succesful plateau of films that can exist with one another if the fans choose it to. Where you have Baby Driver existing with Venom if the fans wanted it to."

@ForDarkseid - Vegas or LA would be two great spots. Actually Vegas is the best choice they know how to handle these types of crowds etc.....plus so many venues to hold this event at.

@ForDarkseid - Vegas would also allow for them to increase the amount of people who can go. But honestly what SDCC needs to do most is abandon their crappy badge system. Should be first come first served each year regardless of past attendance.
