COMICS: 1961 - 2015; End Of The Current Marvel Universe Confirmed After SECRET WARS

Marvel have confirmed today that a reboot of the Marvel Universe is set to take place following the events of Secret Wars, with both the current version of that world and the Ultimate one coming to an end in the pages of issue #1. Hit the jump for details on that and what will follow...

After months of speculation, it's now official! The Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe will both come to an end during Secret Wars, with the end result being a rebooted Marvel Universe incorporating elements of both. It's all quite confusing, but here's what we do know.

The first issue of Secret Wars will feature the collision of the 616 and Ultimate Marvel Universes, with both getting destroyed and a Battleworld left which is made up of many different worlds. That will see the launch of several different limited and ongoing series' set in this reality, many of which will be those bizarre teasers we saw on a daily basis some time ago. At the end, we will apparently be left with a new Marvel Universe. It appears as if that will be the "All-New Marvel" we heard about last year, and while the history of the characters will remain in place, this soft reboot will change things a great deal as the likes of Peter Parker and Miles Morales share the same world.

We had to see this coming of course. The Fantastic Four are in the process of being done away with, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are no longer mutants, Wolverine is dead, and the X-Men could be next to go. Marvel have remained cryptic in their comments, so whether the new Marvel Universe moving forwards will be this Battleworld mashup or something else altogether isn't 100% clear, but the one which has existed since 1961 is at end regardless. What do you guys think?

I am 100% behind this, the live event made it sound a lot like New 52, some of the old elements will be kept while expanding and rejuvenating the outdated.
Can't wait for the further announcements over the next 2 weeks.

If true, Marvel has a chance to do correctly what the New 52 didn't: "Uniformity"

Problem with New 52 was that not all the characters went through a reboot. Most characters were rebooted and Retconned, while others like Batman stayed status quo as if nothing happened but Batgirl had her history Retconned. Just became convoluted.

@Doopie I hope it's not like the New 52, I hope it's an ACTUAL reboot/ re-tooling which it appears to be just that.

This must be how it goes, If the story is too big, even if it looks nice and is first then the editors are allowed to delete an article and steal it for themselves. Seems fair to me.

From Bleeding Cool and Agent M's tweets:

- Not a reboot.

- Champions from either 616 or Ultimate will make up the New Universe.

- Heroes of 616 / Ultimate will remain same characters but the shared universe will spill over.

Hmmm...

So two perfectly fine articles get deleted in favor of this lackluster one. Seems legit.

Josh Wilding wins Battleworld. Good thing, too, it's nicely written.
But, I do have to point out that although the Marvel Age began in 1961, 616 began in 1939, when Marvel was still timely.

Hopefully DC can make a comeback from getting outsold and out reviewed by Marvel with Convergence.

As long as Slott isn't writing Spider-Man, I'm down.

Seriously Marvel. You have Waid, Fraction, Tom Taylor, Jason Aaron, Lemire, Remender, Hickman, BMB, Soule, and others.

If Slott is still writing Spidey then [frick] this.

They didn't actually tell us about the new beginning, yet. But what we do know is that Secret Wars #1 is, indeed, the end, at last. And it's really good of them to be upfront about this, instead of being concerned about spoiling the shock-value of the moment. We do deserve for them to be on the level with us about this and I'm glad that they were.

Now all we need is a one-shot Marvel/DC crossover where Telios and Battleworld collide.

hopefully this will be good, it gives them a chance to update old characters and bring new ones into the fold. but i wonder if they are fighting to be part of this new reality will they remember their past universe when the 2 combine?

hopefully marvel will take this chance to upgrade some of their villians and give them a chance to shine. there are some villians that i think have the potential and power to be avengers level threats.

Would it have been so difficult to just have it all end and then create a proper new universe that combines elements of the ones comprising Battleworld? This seems horribly unnecessary.

It barely even makes sense, like Flashpoint just changed the timeline for the reboot. But this [frick]ing this is combining so many different versions and putting them ALL in the same planet, wtf?!

How the hell can Age of Apocalypse, Age of Ultron, 616, Ultimate, Infinity Gauntlet, House of M and DOFP (among many others) exist on the same [frick]ing planet at the same time?!
