CONFIRMED: Marvel Studios, Sony and Paramount All Skipping This Year's Comic-Con

CONFIRMED: Marvel Studios, Sony and Paramount All Skipping This Year's Comic-Con

There's still no word on who will play Spider-Man in the MCU, but the announcement won't be made at Hall H panels hosted by Marvel Studios or Sony Pictures at this year's SDCC; they're not going!

For the second year in a row, Sony Pictures won't be hosting a Hall H panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Joining them are Paramount Pictures, and perhaps most disappointingly for comic book fans, Marvel Studios. The news was confirmed by Variety, and a spokesperson tells them: "It wasn’t a knock against Comic-Con,t he film cycles just didn’t allow it." That's definitely the case with Paramount and Sony (though they could have at least teased plans for Spider-Man), while Marvel already announced their Phase 3 slate at a special event last year. It's interesting to think that had things played out a little differently, Sony would have been promoting Sinister Six next month!

The site notes that one of these Hall H panels can set a studio back by a few hundred thousand dollars, so it just isn't a priority for many of them. This news leaves both Star Wars and Warner Bros.' panel (which will feature Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and various other "surprises") perfectly primed to steal the show of course. Who will win? Sound off below!

I think it's smart, there's no way that Marvel would e "scared" of Dc. What, Marvel's six films being released over the next couple years is suppose to be afraid of maybe three films by DC?

All anyone will be talking about is DC and Star Wars.. it's a wise move by everyone else

Marvel will probably release stuff online to try and steal some thunder, but lets be honest.. for the first time in a LONG time.. Comic Con belongs to DC and WB

Marvel Studios won't have a Hall H panel but will Marvel comics be there in any capacity? I can't imagine not. Regardless, Marvel always has a fun panel but they have nothing to show this year I guess. Avengers came out already and Ant-Man is soon to be. They could have at least had a panel to promote the release but if they feel they don't need to then fine.

Do you guys know how massive comic con is?

Obvious with lack of material to showcase. A single Civil War trailer isn't enough to sustain an entire Hall H audience let alone the entire event. Plus, besides the exclusives it's the insight and fan interactions that can really make the Con special.

We still have the Star Wars, TV shows and DC panel. I'm super stoked.

All this suits me just fine. I'm not interested in the material from these other companies anyway. As long as WB/DC shows up & does their thing, I'm quite happy, since that's all I'm interested in anyways.

I know this is comicbookmovie.com, but there's something really odd if you're only excited for the movie panels. Comic Con is so much more special than that, especially San Diego Comic Con.

We've already seen 2 trailers for Star Wars. People have already broken into it. DC has new shit which automatically makes their event more exciting.
