SDCC Announces Plans For Panels And Presentations In Free Comic-Con@Home Virtual Event

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic saw the San Diego Comic-Con canceled for the first time in 50 years, but new details have been revealed today about the completely free Comic-Con@Home virtual event!

Due to events beyond the organizer's control, this year's San Diego Comic-Con has been canceled for the first time in 50 years. There will be an alternative, however, as Comic-Con@Home takes place beginning July 22 until July 26, the same period the actual show was supposed to take place.

Comic-Con@Home promises to deliver the authentic Comic-Con experience in the homes of fans, with panels and presentations about comic books, games, movies, and TV shows all planned.

A number of publishers and studios are said to be getting involved, but it's unclear whether we'll see presentations from major studios like Warner Bros. and Marvel Studios. An online Exhibit Hall will see exhibitors offering various promotions and limited edition products, a decision which could either go really well or be a complete disaster; on the plus side, there will be activities fans at home can take part in.

"For the first time in our 50-year history, we are happy to welcome virtually anyone from around the globe," SDCC spokesperson David Glanzer said about the free event which will be open to all fans. "Though stay-at-home conditions makes this a very difficult time, we see this as an opportunity to spread some joy and strengthen our sense of community."

More details are likely to be revealed about Comic-Con@Home over the next few weeks.

This could be something really great. If they build it in a way that you can pick and choose between live panels and come and go. Maybe have some social aspect for attendees to chat. I hope lot's of panels are held and the big players make an effort.

@Necropolitan - If Marvel Studios keeps to their regular pattern of promotion The Eternals trailer comes out in August. ComicCon@Home is happening late July -a few days/weeks prior. I would really be surprised if Marvel Studios would totally ignore the opportunity to promote the film in some manner there.

Wonder if DC will announce something about 5G or whatever the f*ck they intend to do for fall.

Already know what Marvel has planned.

@Doomsday8888 - I can't believe they fired DiDio for doing his job for once.

All this time he's been like "Continuity is not as important as creative freedom" and we were all like "Fvck you, Didio you've broken DC Comics".
And now he finally did the unenviable task of creating an aligned continuity with timelines and everything and what happens? The goddamn writers rebel.

I say leave the writing to the writers and leave keeping everything straight to the editors.

And as far as this whole compromised and pointless 5G goes I say
#ReleaseTheDidioCut.

And I'll be saying it for the next 5-10 years.

(They've literally been re-edited, too, so it's not just hyperbole).

More importantly, what is going to happen to the exclusive merchandise??

@Manmarvel - probably wont happen. Or will sell online in a limited capacity.

@Origame - I buy all the Marvel Hot Wheels and some of the other cool hot wheels entertainment cars, they usually set up for something coming to their mainline for the coming year or something that directly ties into something form this years geek worthy events. So I'm willing to bet they will be out but how will they release and can I get them before the mark up lol.

@Manmarvel - again my guess is that if at all they'll do it online with a limited supply. This is a very unprecedented event so id suggest looking up news on comic con this year and stay updated so you can know if/when its available to avoid losing your chance.

reaaaaally hoping the streaming doesn't crash, which is a big possibility given that is a worldwide free event.
