In a recent Q & A session at the Salt Lake Comic-Con, Stan Lee shared his feelings about the death of Gwen Stacy, and how he responded when he found out Gerry Conway killed her off, "That’s a very sore subject with me. I created Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane [Watson], and I wanted to have some fun with them as the series went along." He then added, "I came back and I found out he had killed Gwen Stacy. I almost killed Jerry Conway." Lee, toward the end of the Comic-con said that the people of Utah had the greatest Comic-con, "You people have the greatest comic con in the world," After that was said the crowd went off and cheered in excitement. Do you think killing Gwen Stacy off was the right move? Also, what do you think was the greatest Comic-Con ever? Sound off below with your thoughts.

He mentioned this on the ASM2 Blu Ray.

It is wierd that Stan doesmt really approve of one of Spideys most defining moments.

The story of Gwen meeting her end is a great one. That being said how they went about doing it is just harsh. I would have preferred Stan to give the okay then just find out she no more.

By far, one of the best Spider-Man stories.... But, it doesn't matter how good the storyline was because the movie totally [frick]ed it up....

Man, you just don't [frick] with a man's fictional female companion for his spider-powered protagonist. Dude crossed a line.

It's spelt Gerry Conway. Throw out the J for a G and you've got the correct spelling.

Even though the movie has been out for a while now and it really doesn't matter, but I find it funny how the title couldn't possibly be any more of a spoiler if you tried. Haha!

The movie wasn't a masterpiece, but it was very enjoyable.

Huh. In an earlier interview he did with Kevin Smith (2001?), he said that he accidentally gave permission to kill her off. He was very tired and stressed while he was away, and on a phone conversation, he was asked if killing her off would be alright. He said yes, but he was too distracted to really focus on what he was saying and think it through.

@TheBatmanRules Stan Lee is awesome but I don't think he can ever keep a story straight. But whatever, he's old.

I watched an interview years ago where Stan said he was on vacation and they called him and asked him if they could kill Gwen off. He said yes and when he came back, he found out they killed Gwen and flipped out.

@AlphaAndDecima, Heh, I was thinking the other day about how much legitimately bad stuff gets completely wiped away and forgotten about...simply because they end up vaguely following the comics (bringing a form of Green Goblin into the mix and killing Gwen Stacy). And how much amazingly new, fresh, creative stuff gets figuratively thrown into the garbage in the minds of fanboys simply because it dared to deviate from the comics (Bane in TDKR, etc).

It's so weird. Some fanboys only care about if a scene follows the comics to a "T" (no matter how superficial or objectively badly-executed it is). And if it doesn't, then it's automatically awful...even if it even manages to (*gasp*) surpass what was in the comics. More often than not, when a movie religiously follows what happens in the comics, it inevitably has that "Just get this shit over with" feel to it, like you said. And fanboys eat it up. It just boggles my mind haha.

This is why I believe when Spidey's rights revert (if ever) they should do a TV series. This way we could get to know Gwen for 3 or 4 seasons before they kill her off.

But honestly with as badly written this movie was it was hard to care about anyone. Especially after Electro did that musical number? I mean really? Spidey's like I hate that song! And I was like everyone does! Why would you put it in a film?

I could see him playing music on his ear buds in a fight, or hearing a stereo playing in the background in a store somewhere but have Electro actually shoot lighting out with a rhythm? Give me a break.

Besides Electro's story was so terrible it made me long for the Power Ranger Goblin days.

How the hell did Pasto lose his name?

Good article! :) A change of title would be appropriate though - Stan simply doesn't talk about the movie in the qoutes.

Gwen's death in TASM2 definitely was the scene that had the biggest impact on me in the movie. Part of that was because of the scene itself, but what struck me about equally hard was realizing that in that moment the very last thing I was somehow attached to in the franchise was gone.

The only sure way now to get me to buy a ticket for TASM3 would the awesomely absurd/absurdly awesome casting of Emma Stone as Mary Jane. <3

RealPasto is the real Pasto, Pasto is the fake Pasto. Pasto stole Pasto's name when real Pasto changed Pasto to RealPasto, so now there's RealPasto, whom is real Pasto and Pasto, whom is fake Pasto, make sense? Will the Real Pasto please stand up?

I like how they handled Gwen's death, in the film. It's much better than in the comics. You know, when she became addicted to drugs, did porn, caught AIDS and then was stabbed before that could even kill her. That shit was brutal!! The film version is much better!

How is he talking about TASM2...? This is regarding the comics, not the movie.
