WonderCon Has Been Postponed Indefinitely; Organisers Issue Update On Plans For San Diego Comic-Con

Following events like E3 and CinemaCon being postponed due to the Coronavirus, it's now been revealed that WonderCon is no longer taking place as planned next month. Where does that leave SDCC? Read on...

Over the past few days, a number of big events have been cancelled or postponed, including CinemaCon and E3. Broadway has turned off its lights in New York City tonight, while both the current NBA and NHL seasons are no longer moving forward as originally planned. There's also some concern that WrestleMania might not go ahead, and more on that can be found at The Ring Report

Now, Comic-Con International has confirmed that WonderCon - which was set to take place from April 10th - April 12th - is the latest comic convention to be indefinitely postponed.

"To protect public health and slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19, the California Department of Public Health announced a recommendation that gatherings and events of more than 250 people should either be postponed or cancelled," reads the official statement from the organisers. "Comic-Con (organizer of WonderCon) will abide by this recommendation."

"Therefore WonderCon Anaheim, scheduled for April 10-12, 2020 in Anaheim, California, will be postponed until a later date. We will begin processing refunds in the coming days."

As you may already be aware, CCI is also the organiser behind the San Diego Comic-Con. That massive event has become the world's biggest comic convention thanks to the presence of major film and television studios, and with it being still four months away, a wait and see approach is being taken.

"We continue to work closely with officials in San Diego and at this time no decision has been made regarding the rescheduling of Comic-Con slated to take place this summer; July 23-26, 2020," the statement continued. "We urge everyone to follow the recommendations set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and your local health officials."

Ultimately, it's all going to depend what happens next. We'll keep you guys updated as more information continues to roll in, but in the meantime, keep yourselves safe out there!

Forget SDCC, if this persists until summer they’ll have to cancel the Olympics.

That means that there won't be, for example, an Agents of SHIELD panel at WonderCon. That sucks.
