DC Entertainment Faces Potential "Overhaul" Under New Warner Bros. Discovery Banner

With much change underway at the newly merged Warner Bros. Discovery offices, it looks like DC Entertainment will not escape without some changes of their own.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is making moves and looking to secure his legacy at the newly minted company. Among the potential changes are whispers of a massive "overhaul" coming to DC Entertainment.

Zaslav is rumored to be holding meetings with potential people of interest and seasoned executives to fill a role that would work to increase DC Entertainment's profile (and profits) under the new Discovery banner. This would encompass all media including film, television, comics, and video games in an attempt to bring the label into a "better alignment".

The new role that Zaslav is looking to fill would serve as a figurehead and leading voice for all DC content, similar to the work that Kevin Feige has been doing with Marvel Studios for some years now. They also want to "revitalize" characters like Superman, and want "more movies like Joker."

Fans will undoubtedly rejoice at the notion of a clear creative vision being implemented and executed within the currently chaotic DCEU. With no clear timeline or continuity (at least until The Flash releases), it seems like WB/DC has just been spinning their wheels with no clear goal in sight.

While no names for potential candidates have yet been leaked, one certainly hopes that they can find someone up to the task of helping the epic library of DC characters reach their full potential both on the page and the screen.

@Kumkani - if you turn off the lights, change the AC filter, divide by 14 and carry the 2, what this really means is that Snyder is going to finally get to direct another 2 Justice League movies

They already do. Try browsing their channels and see their delusions. I end up hating myself whenever I give them my time of day, but at least it lets me see their train of thought.

...derailed as that may be.

Maybe this will be a comeback similar to The Mandalorian healing Star wars after the sequel trilogy.

@MCUKnight11 - Not really seeing what “healing” was needed since outside of Solo most of the Star Wars films/shows have been pretty damn successful.

MCUKnight11 - 4/14/2022, 2:56 PM
@repulse93 - I thought the sequel trilogy was damaging to the brand at least, even as someone who enjoyed all three movies individually.

@repulse93 - None really. As much as fans complain, they still line up on opening day. TROS, arguably the most damaging film in the trilogy, was commercially successful. You can only go to the well so many times though if the product is just awful, and pre-Mandalorian some were of that opinion.

@MCUKnight11 - What makes you think the Star Wars brand is in any sort of danger? Besides the usual social media noise.

dalelloyd28 - 4/14/2022, 3:39 PM
@Drace24 - Considering the fact The Force Awakens made 2 billion. The Last Jedi made 1.3 and The Rise of Skywalker barely passed 1 billion. That's a decline of have your audience. Quit pretending the hate for the sequel trilogy is just some small tweeter base. They have literally lost half their audience.

@dalelloyd28 - Okay and now explain how one movie making a billion, or three movies making 4.3 billion is in any way a bad result. Maybe you'll win the gold medal in mental gymnastics. XD

@The1st - nothing to argue here. TLJ caused Solo to bomb and got mass hate on social media and the web in general. It was a film critics loved but that still didn't help it in its case for success because of the fans. RJ lost his Trilogy because of TLJ.
asherman93
asherman93 - 4/14/2022, 7:12 PM
@dalelloyd28 - The Last Jedi, in spite of its divisiveness, was still the highest grossing film of the year it came out, so clearly it did something right.

The Rise of Skywalker, meanwhile, came out the same year as a bunch of highly antincipated sequels and suffered from everything going wrong during its development.

Combine that with Disney moronically trying to annualize the franchise and rushing the films as a result, and that sounds like a better reason for the decline than the brand being "ruined".

And even then, if a movie makes a billion dollars and someone tries to call that a flop, I'd argue that either they're way to into the AAA game industry mindset of "must make all of the money all of the time"... Or that they've got a bigger issue to deal with than the movie's box office gross.

@McMurdo - "TLJ caused Solo to bomb"
Yes. It had nothing to do with its own troubled production, late marketing, or coming out smack dab between some of the mostly highly anticipated sequels of 2018.
That, plus no one asking for a Han Solo origin spin-off. And I say this as someone who considers the film criminally underrated.

"RJ lost his Trilogy because of TLJ."
Yes, Johnson "lost" his trilogy because his film was so divisive that it only managed to become the highest grossing film of 2017.
It has nothing to do with his own IP being a massive BO success and making him an Oscar nominee.
Its not like the biggest streaming company on the planet dropped $400 million for the rights to the sequels and he might decide to prioritize his own original stuff.
But alas, his trilogy is totally "lost" - its not like Disney might've wisened up about how annualizing the films is a mistake and thus are more inclined to give creators breathing room.

@jst5 - I'm not debating the data, I'm debating how it's been presented. And when someone tries to frame three billion dollar successes as somehow being failing then that warrants some questions.

Here's a fact for ya. When Disney purchased Lucasfilm for 4 billion, they originally aimed to get that money back within four movies. They made it in three. Clearly a success in whatever way you put it, unless you willfully mischaracterize how box office works.

@MCUKnight11 - Star Wars is clearly doing fine. The only reputation that's damaged is that of its fanbase. Even my grandmother heard how Kelly Marie Tran was bullied into depression by Star Wars "fans". And I am very glad to see that the toxicity of the fanbase is finally being called out.
