DC Studios Head Honcho James Gunn Reveals When First DCU Projects Will Be Announced

DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran are believed to have pitched their 8-10 year DCU plan to Warner Bros., but when will we finally get to see what that looks like? The filmmaker has an answer!

DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn (writer/director, The Suicide Squad) and Peter Safran (producer, Shazam!) only started work last month, but they've already faced more than their fair share of controversies.

After a decade of inconsistency and poor planning on Warner Bros.' part, the fact the DCEU DCU is in such capable hands has been welcomed by most comic book fans. There are, however, many people unhappy with decisions like putting Wonder Woman 3 on hold and ousting Henry Cavill from his role as Superman.

It is what it is, but you can understand why those frustrations exist. The Rock brought Cavill back as the Man of Steel, and promised his sizeable fanbase they were getting everything from Black Adam 2 to Hawkman. Now, none of those projects are likely to see the light of day.

How much of Gunn and Safran's 8-10 year plan we'll get to see is hard to say, especially when a single flop could panic Warner Bros. into changing course. With that in mind, we're guessing the studio won't reveal the entire slate as they did way back in 2014 (8 years later and we're still waiting on The Flash).

Now, Gunn has taken to Twitter to confirm we'll learn of at least "a few" of the upcoming DCU projects next month. We'd heard rumblings that news might be coming in January, but at least we now know it won't be a full slate reveal. Whether these projects are movies, TV shows, video games, or a combination of all three remains to be seen.

Gunn's Superman movie has already been confirmed, of course, and we're hoping whatever is revealed offers some clarity about where the DCU is going and whether all those actors really are being replaced. There's also no word on if this news will drop on social media or at some sort of online presentation.

Either way, you'll want to keep a close eye on CBM next month...

They'll probably do cross over films with espltablished heroes rather than multiple origin movies. Similar to the animation route.

@TheRationalNerd - that's an approach I think could work. Especially Man of Tomorrow did it well, so maybe they'll look to that when it comes to Supes

@MisterDoctor217 - It probably wouldn’t, I agree. But maybe! What ever it looks like, I would like something more comic book, like the main DCEU costume, as we’ve gotten a lot of armored versions already.

I love how most people on twitter/interwebs want immediate answers and a slate of movies; like chill, these guys just got into office in what is an absolute dumpster fire. let them breathe for a minute. we will get answers when they are ready.

Personally i hope they basically recast everyone (except Pattinson and his universe) and start completely over with the big names that make up the JL. Then, bring in "smaller names" like Hawkman/Hawkwoman, Red tornado etc... just like how the JLU did it back when i was a kid.

Hooping for the best
