DC Studios Is Considering Making Robert Pattinson's THE BATMAN The DCU's Official Dark Knight!

With James Gunn and Peter Safran set to present their 8-10 year plan for the DCU to Warner Bros. this week, a new report reveals that they're considering finding a way to bring The Batman into that world.

Well, DC Studios' DCU plans just took a very interesting turn.

Variety confirms that co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran will present their 8-10 year slate to Warner Bros. executives in the coming days. Consisting of movies, TV shows, and video games that are all interconnected, it sounds like an ambitious plan, though it's one we're sure will evolve once the studio weighs in.

However, according to the trade, "A well-placed source says Gunn and Safran are exploring the possibility of incorporating filmmaker Matt Reeves’ iteration of Batman with actor Robert Pattinson into their wider universe."

Whoa.

We know Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is keen to move on from having multiple versions of Batman on screen, and as much as we love Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton, prioritising Pattinson's Bruce Wayne makes the most sense. There was nothing in that movie to suggest it couldn't be part of a wider universe.

It's worth noting that The Batman director Matt Reeves hasn't ever said he's against this version of the Caped Crusader being part of a bigger universe; he just wants his movies to remain standalone in nature.

The Batman opened to hugely positive reviews, and with a slate of small screen spin-offs in the works, why wouldn't this Batman be part of the DCU? Now, we just have to hope Pattinson is on board with joining the Justice League!

Elsewhere in the report, it's mentioned that former DC Films executive Pam Adby had to tell Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan to scale back his reshoot plans. Why? The sequel's budget has already ballooned to a whopping $205 million, so it's no wonder there are rumblings that Jason Momoa could swap Arthur Curry for Lobo in the DCU.

How do you guys feel about Pattinson's Batman potentially becoming the DCU's Dark Knight?

@CyberNigerian - I bet you Reeves ain't here for that and Pattinson will walk. I'm sure they'll find some clause in the contract to not allow it.

Also agreed. Leave that universe alone.

@UniqNo - If they walk then so be it. I loved The Batman but I'm sure Gunn and Sfarna can get a decent replacement franchise that uses the first one as a spring board.

But if they can make it work then it's the best of all possible worlds.

@ObserverIO - Yeah ill be fine if he does a soft reboot with the same universe and different actors. But I'm more excited to see more of Matt Reeve Batman.

If they have to bring in a new Batman though in a shared universe I wouldn't mind an older type similar to Affleck, that way we get more of a Bat Family going on. There's so much untapped potential there to just have a shared Bat universe alone.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - So maybe the rumors that DC Studios has no power where Joker and Batman are concerned are true.

If so this is Zaslav falling deeply into the pitfalls of previous Warner heads AND NOTHING WILL CHANGE.

@UniqNo - nah no older Batman, u can work your way up to that.

@Taonrey - Na, we've not seen him take on that role properly.

Batman and Robin, or even Batman Forever didn't do 'Father figure' Bruce justice.

We've have the Nolan movies, Affleck's appearances and now Pattinson, All were doing their thing solo. We're not getting The Batgirl movie so I just think a very different version in the vain Batman the animated series later seasons would be a cool fresh approach and definitely get more of a universal audience interested IMO.

@UniqNo - I think there's a balance. Pattinson's Batman feels too inexperienced to be running with the Justice League just yet. If they do a time skip that would be ideal. It would feel weird to see Batman driving an old muscle car and using somewhat old tech while fighting next to Superman and Green Lantern.

But I also think Affleck's Batman is too old. His Batman has already done everything and fought every villain. He's had Robins die. He's a grumpy old man.

I think there's a middle area that is perfect. Batman in his prime. Not as young as Battinson but not as old as Batfleck.

@CorndogBurglar - Maybe, but I say Affleck age type because it will give more credibility to if there's alreqdy a Nightwing, Red hood, Batgirl, Drake's Robin and maybe even a young Damien Wayne bouncing around on Mommy's lap somewhere as already being in the unviverse.

Those characters alone have so much shared potential. I know it won't happen but if they had the budget for that it would make a great series with the right talent on board.. but they will definitely want to keep their cash cow in cinemas only.

@UniqNo - if Pattinson walks, they will continue the batman universe with another actor, with the same attitude. same with the director. James Gunn will use the theme as the template to restart the DCU.

Conquistador - 12/15/2022, 5:53 AM
@solskulldeath - I doubt that very much. Plus he's already confirmed that stays seperate.
solskulldeath
solskulldeath - 12/15/2022, 6:06 AM
@UniqNo - I bet, they will use the same timeline with a different actor, but still in the same universe where Reeves already craft it, it just that someone will continue the vision

Conquistador - 12/15/2022, 6:23 AM
@solskulldeath - I doubt that aswell. They'll want to make sure there's a contrast so the main generic audiences don't get confused by the 2.

Take this with a grain of salt

I know. I’ve been saying this for all last week.

I’m sure DCs dream would be to reconstruct the universe around their most popular property. The problem is if Reeves and Pattinson will play ball.

Personally I think they should reboot the entire universe into The Batman continuity and start from scratch.
CassianAndor
CassianAndor - 12/14/2022, 11:59 AM
@MrDandy - I’ve been saying it for a while too. It’s the most obvious and sensical choice. And for all the people saying they’d rather see Reeves tell his own story instead, there’s no reason they can’t do both! Hell, there’s probably time for Reeves to finish his trilogy before they’d even need to connect the universes. And by that point Pattinson’s Batman should be older and farther along in his career that it’ll fit better in the shared universe anyway.

too grounded, even more so than TDK. It has to be a comicbook accurate batman in his prime. Not year one or two, not old batman.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 12/14/2022, 10:18 AM
@IvanBadski - Comic book Batman is pretty grounded too.

They started with Year One and then before you know it, it's Final Crisis.

This can work.

Think rebooting the DCU in The Batman's universe does make sense, and is something I wanna see happen.

Sure based on The Batman, it doesn't feel like a universe superheroes from space and sorcerers and time travel fit in, but we thought the same at the time of Iron Man's or Arrow's premiere.

@bkmeijer1 - they and fans gotta be ok with the slow burn like early mcu did. Only way it would work

How about a Batman that's closer to the classic animated series,Arkham Games. Those are the definitive "Batman" for me.
MaximusTheMad
MaximusTheMad - 12/14/2022, 9:47 AM
Why not?

There is literally nothing about this Batman that wouldn't fit in a larger DCU.

@MaximusTheMad - You think Superman, Wonder Woman, or the Green Lantern Corps fit in this universe?
MaximusTheMad
MaximusTheMad - 12/14/2022, 10:51 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 -

What does that even mean? I can see this Batman interacting with other heroes, yeah. Of course, a movie with such an interaction shouldn't have the tone of The Batman. Different movies can have different tones. Could you imagine Thor interacting with Iron Man before Avengers 1? This type of discussion should stay in 2011 where it belongs.
Shivermetimbers
Shivermetimbers - 12/14/2022, 11:21 AM
@MaximusTheMad - Totally agree. It is completely ridiculous to think otherwise. Batman in the comics is street level and mostly very "grounded", but then he meets up with his super pals and goes to space or whatever. His individual stories are much different than the ones when he is fighting alongside the justice league for the most part.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 12/14/2022, 11:39 AM
@MaximusTheMad - Iron Man never had the same tone The Batman had.
Expecting the next movies in this franchise to "adapt" to the fantastical elements of the other heroes in the DC universe is expecting this franchise to betray itself.
