POLL: Do You Think DC Studios Should Have Kept The DCEU's Batman, Superman And Wonder Woman As Its Trinity?

It's become apparent the DCU is going to look very different to the DCEU, but with some familiar faces set to return, should DC Studios and James Gunn have kept the same Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman?

By now, you don't need us to tell you the DC Extended Universe is likely to be remembered as a failure on the same level as Universal's ill-fated Dark Universe.

Warner Bros. made a number of poor decisions that ultimately doomed the DCEU (you can read more about those by clicking here), though there were still lots of things we couldn't help but love about many of the movies. That includes the casting decisions, many of which were made by Zack Snyder.

With a reboot looming courtesy of DC Studios, the newly named DCU looks set to reimagine this shared world but is still going to bring back some familiar faces, with John Cena's Peacemaker, Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn among the confirmed returnees.

When it comes to The Trinity, however, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman will all look vastly different a few years from now.

David Corenswet is the DCU's new Man of Steel and will first play the character in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy. The filmmaker wanted to focus on a younger Kal-El, so it's easy enough to see why Henry Cavill's time as this iconic superhero reached what felt like a premature end.

As for Batman, he too will be recast in Andy Muschietti's The Brave and the Bold, a movie that promises to explore Bruce Wayne's dynamic with his son, Damian Wayne/Robin. Ben Affleck has outright said he doesn't want to work with Gunn and DC Studios so we're not overly surprised he won't be back.

Wonder Woman's future is perhaps the most confusing of the three, with Gal Gadot insisting she'd been promised Wonder Woman 3 by Gunn and Peter Safran. That was later debunked by a piece in the trades (clearly fed to them by Warner Bros. and DC Studios brass), essentially making the actress out to be a liar.

It's a strange time to be a DC fan, but there are many fans who believe the DCEU's Trinity should have stuck around and been front and centre in the DCU.

It's a compelling argument, particularly given the great work Cavill, Affleck, and Gadot delivered as these characters. There would have been a lot of benefits to building a new franchise around the trio, and also some pitfalls, including the negative connotations now associated with the DCEU.

As you've probably guessed, we want you, ComicBookMovie.com's readers, to cast your vote and let us know whether you think DC Studios should have created the DCU around the original big screen Trinity. It's too late to change anything now, of course, though we can't help but be curious to see how most of you feel when it comes to Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman's respective futures...

@PlusUltra -

The fact that Gunn is one foot in and one foot out when it comes to the DCEU I'm starting to believe he should've just kept them😑

I just think DC had the wrong way of doing things back then. It's not exactly that the trinity were bad, but the direction it was allowed to be taken. Henry Cavill deserved better first and formost. Gadot was a pleasant suprise and i actually liked Batfleck, i would have love to have seen him in his own Batfamily movie with all the adopted boys. The writing just put superman into the background too much.

Better to recast, this is supposed to be a fresh start, people are use to seeing new faces for cbm characters anyways. Get someone that can actually deliver a line for Wonder Woman. Get a director that doesn’t hate Superman.

Would have liked if Cavill and Affleck would have stayed. Gal needs to go and be gone and stay gone. She's not it.

Gadot being the weakest actor of the three but working out well in the role under Jenkins and her supporting cast, is all proof needed that Affleck and Cavill were let down by the creatives involved. But yea, within the decade, there were more iconic versions of both Bats and Supes on the big and small screen. But, who knows? IF the DCU lasts and the multiverse is still a nostalgia tool years down the line, Cavill could eventually make those Supes cameos he was rumored to do in nearly every one of these recent DCEU films! But for the time being, I'm excited to see more of Rob Patts' Bats, I'm looking forward to Corenswet and Gunn's take on Supes and hoping Wonder Woman gets prioritized in the Gunn/Safran agenda.

They were never an exciting Trinity. I remember when this moment showed in the final trailer of BvS, it did absolutely nothing for me. I've enjoyed them all in the roles though.

@MosquitoFarmer - in the trailer it was a great moment for me, in the movie however? I tapped out by that point

@MosquitoFarmer - Wonder Woman was pretty awesome in that whole Doomsday fight. Not because of Gadot, but because Snyder is really good at making action scenes look cool. I loved when Doomsday knocked the shit out of WW and she just smirked and got back up and kept fighting. Like she was happy to have a challenge. That's Wonder Woman in a nutshell for me.

And I don't hate Gadot in the role, but they definitely could have gotten someone better.

@CorndogBurglar - He did that awesome Batman fight scene that felt like an Arkham game.

Wonder Woman was the highlight of Batman V.Superman:Dawn Of Justice.

They should have gone back to the Dark Knight films and Man of Steel and started from there. Those films should have set the tone for the rest of the shared universe. Not dark and nihilistic but not goofball slapstick.

Batman V Superman was a complete disaster that the franchise has never recovered from. It introduced a maniac Batman...bi polar Superman, a quirky and annoying Lex Luthor, and Ezra Miller. Virtually everything that has happened since has been either a reaction to it or attempts to revise these bad interpretation of the characters. It totally compromised the story that could be told.

Disney has ruined Star Wars, Indiana Jones and the MCU.

DC has ruined their gold standard heroes and the DCU.

Kurtzman is trying to ruin Star Trek.

And these very same horrible writers are on strike now demanding more money. After what they have done to these franchises they should remain out of work permanently.

For me, all trust has gone.

I don't even want to see Batman as part of the main trio of characters (as each new failure dilutes the brand).

Save the character for his own films - 'save and protect'.

I liked all the casting individually, but they never really had any solid chemistry together. Especially the Batmam/Wonder Woman felt dynamic felt forced, although it was improving in The Flash.

If they're doing a reset, I rather see it be a reboot with a new cast than the same cast. Wouldn't mind seeing the actors return in different roles though (Gadot as Hippolyta and Affleck as Thomas Wayne could work)
