DEADPOOL: Daniel Cudmore Confirms He WAS Offered The Role of Colossus In Deadpool

As fans have known for a while now, when Deadpool rolls around next year, Colossus will be played by 'Once Upon A Time' star Andre Tricoteux, as opposed to Daniel Cudmore, who played the metal mutant in X2: United, X-Men 3: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, recently director Tim Miller revealed that he did offer Cudmore the role, and Cudmore has confirmed it himself. Click the jump for details.

When February rolls around next year, fans are going to be flocking excitedly to see the long-anticipated R-Rated film based on everyone's favourite Merc With A Mouth. Unfortunately, much to the disdain of many a X-Men fan, it was revealed that Daniel Cudmore, who had previously played Piotr Rasputin, or Colossus, in X2, X-Men 3: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past, would NOT be reprising his role despite the metal-skinned mutant starring in the film as one of Deadpool's allies.

However, in a recent interview, Deadpool director Tim Miller told film magazine Empire, "I did actually call Daniel Cudmore to ask him if he wanted to do this, even though he'd be entirely CG the whole time. He was very nice about it. He was like, 'I appreciate your offering, but nah'."

Since the interview was released, Cudmore took to twitter to respond to Miller's comments. He didn't just pass on the role due to the CGI nature of the character - they (Fox) were going to use another actor's voice too.

"I did get a call for Colossus but it was CGI/stunts and not using my voice so I graciously passed. Love 2 play him in the future as an actor" said one of two tweets written by Cudmore.

Cudmore then went on to release a second tweet, expressing his own anticipation for the Deadpool movie.

"Really looking forward to @deadpoolmovie as I was such a fan of the leaked script and can't wait to see what Tim Miller did with it."

Of course, since Cudmore passed the role, Once Upon A Time and Seventh Son star, Andre Tricoteux has been cast to take up the mantle. However, it seems that Miller wasn't even sure Colossus would be allowed in the film, having already been a member of the X-Men in three of Fox's more serious entries into the X-franchise, as he revealed in the same interview:

"We were never going to be able to be able to keep Colossus a secret. He was in the script that leaked and all that. I wasn't actually sure, until we were standing there shooting it, that at some point Fox was going to say, 'Hold on a second: we can't put Colossus from our treasured X-Men franchise in this movie to be made fun of!' But they did, and not only that, but also they let me change the look of him. As a fanboy I've always been like, 'That dude with the shiny skin is not ****ing Colossus.' He should be this monstrous guy, and they actually let me make him seven-and-a-half feet tall."

So, what do you guys think? Do you think Cudmore should've reprised the role if he hopes to play the character again later as an actor, or do you think the Colossus' recasting to be played by Tricoteux is a blessing? We'll be able to tell for sure when Deadpool comes out February 12, 2016.

@DrHankPym ah damn, didn't see that :/

would it be best to delete the article, or does the inclusion of Cudmore's tweets warrant leaving it up? Not sure if it looks worse to leave it up or to delete it.

@DrHankPym I think I'm just gonna leave it up, and see if CBM counts it as a duplicate and deletes it :P

I might message Mark Cassidy and see what he thinks, if he'd rather I delete it or not :)

I might not be a fan of the Deadpool trailer, but there's no denying that his is the best live-action depiction we've seen of Colossus:

I'd say leave this up. Mark has posted duplicate articles before, or ones like this where there's similar info with new bits added, i don't see why you shouldn't be able to as well.

@DrHankPym yeah definitely, absolutely puts it above the rest in my opinion

@MPambassador he looks great. What about the trailer weren't you a fan of?

@MattBellissimo thanks for the advice man :)

@MPambassador Yeah isnt it crazy to think that when a superhero end up on the big screen and looks alot like their comicbook source, it actually looks awesome!? (Well, apart from him not wearing his red circus freak stripper costume...)

Colossus with better design and Russian accent ... i'm in. And yes ... i was saying that for years that the T-1000 effect didn't work well.

I never noticed before that all the X-Men films had him using a shiny T-1000 effect for his metal skin. No wonder why the Deadpool version looks so damn good.

Why make him over 7' tall though? Colossus is supposed to be around 6'7". Having a 7'+ Colossus interact with a short Wolverine would look crazy. Keep that in mind when you recast Logan, Fox.

@DrHankPym @MPambassador @MexicanSuperman @Floke @jerryblake @DevarikaWoulf hey guys, just a bit of conversation - now that Fox seems to be nailing their (mutant) characters, who would you like to see in the X-Men show if it takes off? Just assume that Fox will nail the character, this hypothetical is set in a totally ideal reality :P

@Gutspinner

I agree that Deadpool having an R-rating is fitting, but what I didn't like is how hard they tried to make it R. It's like they were trying to force as much R-rated content as they could JUST to get the rating. That's just one complaint.

The other is that although I liked some of the jokes in the trailer, the rest of it just seemed to fall short for me. I know Deadpool is an obnoxious character but the movie made him seem TOO obnoxious for my taste. A lot of the humor to me seemed to be as clever as a 13-year-old boy playing CoD multiplayer on his Xbox trying to be funny. It doesn't matter to me how loudly or how often you cuss, if that's what your jokes are hinging upon, then I feel there's a lack of creativity.

But this is just my opinion, I know a lot of people like it and I hope it doesn't disappoint, I actually hope that the film ends up being a lot better than I expected and proves me wrong.

Part of the problem is that I'm not a BIG Deadpool fan like a lot of people (claim to be) but I've read quite a few Deadpool comics and the humor that I always laughed was always more creative and unexpected. "Negasonic Teenage what-the-shit!" isn't funny or creative to me.

Sorry for the long exposition, I'm sure the pirhanas on this website are going to tear this comment apart lol but that's okay, I'm prepared to start dodging them lol

@Gutspinner Well if a 7 1/2 foot Colossus work in a live action, perhaps a comic book accurate Apocalyps would be an asskicker? :p

Hey, I have an idea! Perhaps this could be the real Colossus showing up and the other one was just an imposter... nahh.. lol sorry, no one would come up with something that retarded for frag sake. :)

It's looking and sounding like Tim miller should be the herald of Foxs xmen universe. Bryan singer has no respect for source material.

They should have kept Colossus as far away from this shit storm as possible. Not that the Singer films were doing him a justice, but neither will this film.

@DevarikaWoulf- I think the 7'5" foot Colossuslooks pretty comic book accurate. A 7'5" foot Colossus would look pretty sweet setting up a "Fastball Special" with a 5'8" Wolverine.

Fair enough, I guess Cudmore wants a better acting career and doesn't want to be a human prop anymore.
Good on you.

Colossus looks great in the trailer

I've always wondered how Colossus' hair works? How do you get a block of metal hair?
turdfergusonshat
turdfergusonshat - 8/7/2015, 10:23 AM
He's right about Colossus' height. Per Marvel's Wiki page he's 6'6" normally, but 7'5" when transformed.

Which makes tossing a 5'3" Wolverine via a Fastball Special look less idiotic than Cudmore (6'8") chucking Jackman (6'2") across the room. Add to that mental image that one of them looked like he was constructed of shiny aluminum foil and the other was wearing a wife beater. Nailed it again, Fox!

Deadpool is finally giving me the faintest glimmer of hope here. I'd better squash this with booze before Fox steps in with notes on how to fix this movie prior to release...

@turdfergusonshat

Wow, didn't know that. I remember from the Pryde of the X-Men cartoon/X-Men Arcade game and The Animated Series he didn't grow bigger with the change of skin. I hope they show that in a film if we see him transform sometime. I do want a short Wolverine, but the image of a 7'+ Colossus tossing a 5'5"ish Wolverine around does make me laugh a little.
