DEADPOOL 2 Director David Leitch Reveals Whether Disney Has Contacted Him About DEADPOOL 3

The Merc with the Mouth's future is very much up in the air following the Disney/Fox merger, and now Deadpool 2 director David Leitch has revealed whether he's been contacted about a third instalment...

Deadpool 2 was a box office hit and a re-released PG-13 version proved that the Merc with the Mouth could work outside an R-Rating. Despite that, we've not really heard anything about what comes next for the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and neither has director David Leitch!

During a recent interview at the premiere of Hobbs & Shaw, the filmmaker was asked for an update on Deadpool 3 (a movie he's never actually been officially attached to) and admitted that while he would like to make it, Disney hasn't been in touch about Wade Wilson's big screen future.

"In everybody's world, everybody wants to make it," he says. "So, if I was ever approached to make Deadpool 3, my answer would be, 'Hell yes,' but I think there's a lot of things going on in the shake up with Fox and Disney and where that whole Marvel world after Endgame is gonna be. When the dust settles, let's hope that Deadpoool lives. That's kind of ironic, right?"

It's hard to imagine we won't see more of Deadpool on the big screen, but a rebooted version of the character (presumably with Ryan Reynolds still in the title role) seems far more likely than a Deadpool 3 at this point. It's also possible that Marvel Studios will consider kicking things off with X-Force.

What do you guys think?

I hope Marvel's Deadpool starts with a really cheesy flashback narrated by Wade where he shows us all what he was up to during the events of all the other Marvel movies so far, like maybe at a food stall at the Stark Expo in Iron Man 2 when the Hammer-drones attack, sleeping through the entire Battle of NY in The Avengers, getting his powers shortly after that (hinting that the first Deadpool movie may still be canon), stuck at an airport after missing a flight to Berlin during Civil War, being on the ferry when Spidey accidentally splits it in half in Homecoming, gambling in Korea during Black Panther, getting snapped away during Infinity War and then reappearing in the final battle of Endgame but getting knocked out straight away and waking up after the battle's over.

@AC1 - DP being retroactively canon doesn't work. The movies have shown mutants which just don't exist in the MCU. The DP cast also had a cmaeo in DP 2. It will create a mess.

@Jeight8 - Aren’t Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver mutants?

@thisistomok - In the comics SW and QS are mutants. In the movies they got their powers from an Infinity Stone. Remember Age of Ultron?

@CorndogBurglar - they could easily retcon SW and QS by "revealing" that the sceptre/mind stone only activated their latent mutant abilities. They do say in AOU that the twins were the only ones to survive the experiments, so maybe it was because they were actually mutants and not because they just willed themselves to survive because they hated Tony Stark.

@Jeight8 - yeah they'd definitely have to jettison like 90% of the previous Deadpool continuity (unless they hastily reintroduce the X-Men before his next film and just say the entire Deadpool trilogy is set after) but what I'm suggesting is they merely hint that something vaguely resembling the events of the first movie occurred in the MCU so they can gloss over the origin (like they did with the Incredible Hulk where it kind of works as a continuation of Ang Lee's Hulk but is really it's own thing).

@AC1 - Yeah they could absolutely do that. And I kind of hope they do! And also make them the children of Magneto while they're at it :)

I was just answering that guy's question when he asked if QS and Sw were mutants.

@CorndogBurglar - yes! They could even partially tie Magneto's motivations and his distrust of humanity into Quicksilver's death as he could equally blame the likes of The Avengers and Hydra for the parts they played in creating Ultron and allowing him to do what he did.

Ryan will get in there one way or another. We know he will.

Isn't he doing The Division film adaptation for Netflix next anyways? With Jake G & Chastain.
Anyways, would have really liked to see Drew Goddard's X-Force but it looks like it might not ever happen. Brolin was kind of forgettable as Cable, but I really liked Beetz as Domino.

I'm not a big fan of the prospect of a post-Miller Deadpool franchise anyway, but I could see them going super-meta with direct references to Disney and Fox's merger and the corporate stuff. The gags in Once Upon a Deadpool about that with Savage were some of the strongest elements the movie for me full-stop. Not sure how much it plays widely, but that vein is the richest direction for him, I think.

If you're actually talking about doing Deadpool within the context of the MCU, though, I'd hope for a clean slate and a recast. I think Deadpool 2 showed that Reynolds' Wade doesn't really anchor a team or a broader dramatic story that well.

"David Leitch was not contacted by Disney... Hmmm... What title could i use to make it seem like he might have been?" ...

CLICKBAIT BS.

Such a shame that we have to wait so long for another DP movie eventhough everyone is ready to go.
Rao knows when we'll have another one...

Deadpool 3 is definitely coming.

And you can take that prediction straight to the mouse, err, I mean, Bank.
Like there’s a difference.

I'd be interested in seeing if DP2 would've come out better if Miller were handling it instead of Leich, but overall I feel this version has gotten pretty played out. #2 showed exactly why I don't care for DP when he's at the forefront so when he joins the MCU I'm hoping it's in a much more supporting role

I just hope Cable has a big role in the upcoming Xmen movies.

I thought Ryan Reynolds was going to still be Deadpool when Disney took over. I remember Bob Iger said DP was still going to be R-rated.

@bobbo68 - I think both Iger and Feige have said something along the lines of not changing something that isn't broken when talking about Deadpool. And also that they would be open to Rated R Marvel films if it makes sense.

I don't think they ever confirmed Reynolds continuing as Deapool though, even though I see no reason why they would recast him.

Now that FFH is out, we’ll hopefully get some solid news about the MCU’s future. I’m not necessarily expecting a full Phase 4 rollout, but hopefully some more release dates and info about Black Widow, Eternals, Shang-Chi, Black Panther 2, and Doctor Strange 2. Also, hopefully some kind of tidbit about the X-Men, FF, or Deadpool.

I wasn't that into Deadpool 2, personally. I have to keep reminding myself that I did see it whenever talk of the character comes up.

Why has the merger led to a delay? From what we know, they're keeping Deadpool the same anyway. It's not like X-Men. Enough with the delays, get production started while Renolds is still young.
