DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Director Reveals The One Thing Marvel Said Was Off Limits For R-Rated Threequel

Shawn Levy has previously made it clear that Marvel Studios gave him the go-ahead to get as wild and crazy as he wanted with Deadpool and Wolverine, but there was one thing that was off the table...

Deadpool and Wolverine will be Marvel Studios' first R-rated movie, and as we've already seen from the gory, F-bomb-laden trailers, the Disney-owned studio clearly gave director Shawn Levy and star/producer Ryan Reynolds quite a bit of leeway when it comes to the Merc With a Mouth's MCU debut.

There was one line (pun intended) that Kevin Feige and co. asked Levy not to cross, however.

"I’m so wary of what I can say, but certainly there were early conversations about overt drug use," the filmmaker tells Total Film. "And we thought that was an interesting conversation. Let’s actually write a dialogue scene about having had it."

Sure enough, the second teaser finds Wade Wilson having a conversation with Blind Al about sneaking away to partake in some "Bolivian marching powder," with the former noting: "Cocaine is the one thing Kevin Feige says is off the table."

This is not exactly surprising, as drug use seems to be something the MPAA keeps a very close eye on - even in movies that already feature abundant sex and violence.

So, we probably shouldn't expect to see Wade recreate his "cocaine angel" scene from Deadpool 2, but aside from that, it sounds like we're in for a pretty wild ride.

The MPAA recently gave the movie an official R-rating for: "Strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore, and sexual references."

“Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date - Deadpool & Wolverine," reads the new synopsis. "A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier... reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to - F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.”

In addition to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the title roles, Deadpool and Wolverine will see Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), who will play a TV agent and Charles Xavier's evil counterpart, Cassandra Nova.

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool and Wolverine from a script by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.

The movie is set to open in U.S. & Canadian theaters on July 26, and will be available in IMAX, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, Cinemark XD and premium screens everywhere.

So that talk with Blind Al in the trailer was kinda real, heheh.

@Fogs - Certainly confirmation they're going to get more meta. Love it.

@Fogs - just another reason why Deadpool’s 4th wall breaking tops She Hulk’s cringe audience pandering.

Like there’s no way Tatiana Maslany actually gives a flying hoot to ask the real Feige about X-men or when her next sex scene with daredevil will be

@JFerguson - Who the hell cares if the actress would ask that. It’s the character that breaks the 4th wall. What a strange take

@CerealKiller1 - it’s a strange 4th wall break to have. Why would she hulk of all characters be the one delivering the first NameDrop of “x-men” in the MCU? It’s an unnatural delivery unlike a well-written Deadpool meta remark

Jessica Gao and Kat Coiro were on some audience pandering bullshit.

@JFerguson - I mean now you’re moving the goalposts. A second ago your issue was that the actress herself wouldn’t personally ask Feige these questions.

‘Why would She Hulk of all characters’? You mean the character that was 4th wall breaking long before Deadpool? You may have disliked the show and that’s fine, but you’re channeling your dislike intro he wrong issue

@Fogs - Will probably be cut from the movie.

@CerealKiller1 - ok I’ll get back to the topic of my OG reply. You’re right that I have many issues with this series.

Deadpool 4th wall breaking is better thought out, written, and executed than She Hulk 4th wall break because writers like Ryan take the time out to incorporate small meaningful interactions that he actually had in the real world that the audience will find funny.

Comparatively, the jokes in she hulk feel forced and unnatural and more than likely did not come from any genuine real world experience by either Tatiana or Jessica or Kat.

TLDR; Deadpool wall breaks are more engaging than She Hulk wall breaks

@JFerguson - I guess we’ll agree to disagree, because your need for 4th Wall Breaks to tie directly to the actors personal life and actions is baffling to me

@JFerguson - Anybody remember when Ryan Renolds was on the Nickelodeon drama show "15?!"

Stellar bad acting by everyone on the cast during its run.

@Fogs - I always thought it would be only in the trailer but not in the actual movie... that way when it streams they are not referring to drugs over and over again.

Marvel: alcohol, violence, gay themes, making straight white men the evil boogeyman, bashing the country where you make all your money.....thats great. Green light.

" character talks about smoking weed instead of taking a bunch of pills for an issue"

Marvel:"No we can't have that on screen. We have to think about the children. We're a family company. Who believes in community, and acceptance for all"

@LysergicMeinbal - you're really reaching and it's pathetic.
The majority of Infinity Saga heroes were straight white men. They've never been attacking that demographic.
Even the much hated "woke" Marvels had a POC female villain while much of Phase 4/5 has had POC antagonists in the forms of Kang, Namor, and High Evolutionary.

Also you're really gonna throw a fit about Stark's weed joke in favor of popping pills?

Lastly, what country got bashed and when?

@Rmcbride7349 - presumably some white nationalist victimhood b.s.

Everything goes except drugs. 😂 It’s like this pedo who came to church and got really sad that he had sex before marriage and not that he did it with his cousins’ 13 year old daughter. It was baffling the inconsistencies.
