DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Star Ryan Reynolds Says LOGAN Is "Potentially The Greatest" CBM Ever Made

In a new interview, Deadpool and Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds offers high praise to co-star Hugh Jackman's (supposedly) final time donning the claws in James Mangold's Logan...

2017's Logan is widely regarded as the best of 20th Century Fox's X-Men films, and many would go a step further and say it's among the best comic book movies, full stop - including Ryan Reynolds.

The Deadpool and Wolverine star has expressed his fondness for James Mangold's R-rated drama in the past (Wade Wilson's "death" scene in Deadpool 2 is a direct parody/homage of Logan's emotional send-off), and had the highest of praise for the movie while speaking to Total Film about the upcoming MCU threequel.

"The movies were quite congruent with each other at that point," Reynolds said of Logan coming out soon after the first Deadpool. "Deadpool was different, and then right after Logan was potentially the greatest comic-book adaptation ever made."

Logan was originally supposed to serve as Hugh Jackman's farewell as the iconic mutant hero, but he was convinced to don the claws one more time(?) for a team-up with the Merc With a Mouth.

"I was on my way, I was just driving, and literally, just like a bolt of lightning, came this knowing deep in my gut that I wanted to do this film with Ryan [Reynolds]," Jackman told Fandango in an interview earlier this year. "For Deapdool and Wolverine to come back together. I swear to you, When I said I was done, I really thought I was done. But in the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool 1, I was like, 'Those two characters together.' I knew it, I knew the fans wanted it ever since I put on the claws, people talked about these two. So, that had always been there, but I just knew."

The MPAA recently gave the movie an official R-rating for: "Strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore, and sexual references."

“Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date - Deadpool & Wolverine," reads the new synopsis. "A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier... reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to - F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.”

In addition to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the title roles, Deadpool and Wolverine will see Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), who will play a TV agent and Charles Xavier's evil counterpart, Cassandra Nova.

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool and Wolverine from a script by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.

The movie is set to open in U.S. & Canadian theaters on July 26, and will be available in IMAX, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, Cinemark XD and premium screens everywhere.

It's really between Logan and TDK.

@Doomsday8888 - we should be able to get a Logan type film from Kevin Feige. He's dipping his feet into R rated content. Allow creatives to make films that stand apart and let writers/directions bring forth a singular vision despite ancillary content within universe. Watch it blossom and the MCU gain all of its popularity back over night. Get rid of the constant samey shared world films and do something that both Fox and WB have done successfully on multiple occasions now.

It's not even the best Fox-Men film, let alone the best CBM. Still among the genre's greats though.

@DrReedRichards - It is objectively the best Fox-Men film wtf are you on

Not my favorite. A little too bleak for me but if you prefer the dark and gritty over the colorful and over the top that's a matter of choice. As a stand alone I prefer Winter Soldier but Endgame has to be the best.

@DrReedRichards - Agreed. It's like 1986 and The Dark Knight Returns was dropped out of the sky and everyone thought it was the greatest thing ever created.

It was great. It was groundbreaking. I read it about once every five to seven years and that's plenty.

I've watched Logan once. Pretty much the same strata of content as TDKR.

@Goldboink -

I'm with you on Logan being too bleak, to a degree where the climactic resolution with the children feels entirely out of place in terms of tone.

When it comes to Fox, I feel like Days Of Future Past is overall the superior movie (pacing, consistency, arcs, you name it), but I understand it's a matter of preference.

The Xavier & Magneto (Shaw too) make that film.

I wouldn't put it in the same vein as TDKR, lol. That one is outright unwatchable when compared to other gems of the genre, or even its predecessors.

First Class is a weird one for me, tbh. It has some memorable and great moments, but I feel like it doesn't reach the heights of its sequel. I will say though, it has the best music score and soundtrack songs from the rebooted era.

I love the first two FoxMen movies just because of what they represented. I have to say First Class may be my favorite mainly due to Eric. The scene in the bar in Argentia is just perfect. Acting is top notch and the story holds up upon repeated viewing. Totally my fave of the X-Men fox stuff.

It's a matter of taste and tone. Not everyone likes the same stuff although they intersect every now and again. DOFP was certainly entertaining but once was enough for me. First Class has moments worthy of repeated viewing, which is how I judge these kinds of things.

Interesting thing about the end of that scene is that dude can barely talk. I think he stuck his tongue out when he was stabbed and Eric made him bite his tongue.

@Goldboink - Magneto was handled perfectly in First Class but the first class of X-Men, and Shaw’s villain goons were all poorly done. You can tell that was the refreshed version of X-Men Origins: Magneto that they retrofitted into an X-Men movie after Wolverine was received so poorly.
McMurdo

@Vigor - my guy. First Class is brilliant and is to this day the best X-Men film ever made. Despite the line up change. That line up change is irrelevant. Matthew Vaughn needs tko be hired by Gunn ASAP cuz that dude gets it. I woulda loved to see his sequel to First Class.

@DrReedRichards - Oh - NOT that massive letdown of a movie - I meant the OG Frank Miller Dark Knight in 1986.

The Miller GN was like a bomb going off - Logan had the same effect on the CBM world IMO - like 'OMG - so dark, so serious, so grown up...'

Great for what it is but the rewatchability is shit.

@Batmangina - To roll with the DC side and do a similar thing in regards to what I did with Logan...

I enjoyed Batman Returns more than any other take on that specific character, but did and still do firmly believe TDK was a far better film on every level (opinions will vary)

@Batmangina - For some people, reading comprehension is not the strongest thing. I knew what you meant from the get-go. if there was any doubt, all they had to do is read that you were talking about 1986 I also love that series, but as long as it wasn’t canon.

I loved Shaw but his Hellfire Club and the first batch of X-Men were kind of weak. It was really Eric and Charles' story and the other characters were ancillary. Still an enjoyable ride and I love the 60's setting.
