DOCTOR STRANGE 3 Will Reportedly Adapt Marvel Comics' "Time Runs Out" Storyline

If a new rumour is to be believed, Marvel Studios plans to set the stage for the next two Avengers movies by adapting the "Time Runs Out" storyline in Doctor Strange 3! Find more details after the jump...

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may have struggled to live up to the lofty expectations of many fans, but the sequel was still an important chapter in the Multiverse Saga.

As well as taking the former Sorcerer Supreme on a trip through a number of alternate realities, it finished by introducing the idea of incursions. Comic book fans will know those occur when two realities collide, with both of them ultimately destroyed.

In what felt like a rather hastily put together post-credits scene, Clea arrived on Earth-616 to seek Strange's help in stopping an incursion he had caused. Now, The Cosmic Circus claims Doctor Strange 3 will pick up on that by adapting elements of Marvel Comics' "Time Runs Out" storyline.

The MCU threequel is expected to begin where Multiverse of Madness ended with Strange enlisted by a group called The Black Priests. Clea is a member of the multiversal organisation and their HQ will be "in the Nothing Space of Destroyed Universes, which exists within the space of two dead universes caused by an incursion."

From there, we'll learn that the Multiverse is dying as a result of incursions (most of which we'd bet on being caused by Kang the Conqueror and his many Variants). The threequel would also better explore the supposed threat Strange poses to the wider Multiverse.

The site notes that Doctor Strange 3 is expected to set the stage for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, no great surprise when "Time Runs Out" ended with Earth-616 and Earth-1610 moments from colliding. From there, Doctor Doom would create a new Battleworld reality.

It's worth noting that a lot could have changed since the WGA strike began and we'd be remiss not to remind you of Disney CEO Bob Iger's comments in which he suggested MCU characters don't necessarily need third or fourth movies after Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania underperformed.

Doctor Strange 3 doesn't currently have a release date.

@KaptainKhaos - I'm sorry, were you expecting more from a rumor-mill superhero gossip site? FFS if your expectations are "less rumors" you probably should go touch grass for a few weeks to reset yourself.

Makes sense with the current storyline but I’ll wait and see.

i'll believe this when lord fiege says it's actually happening. i thought iger wanted to cut down on movies and this would be adding one. Plus... there are a ton of movies we haven't heard anything about in awhile like Blade, Shang Chi 2 etc.... as much as i would like this movie to be real... im very skeptical right now

@MotherGooseUPus - Shang Chi was a nice surprise for me, especially with Tony Leung. Rare MCU W in recent years, along w/ GOTG 3 and Werewolf by Night

@tmp3 - i enjoyed Shang Chi much more than i thought i would.. but the 3rd act was awful and ruined the movie for me. GOTG Vol3 i finally saw and i enjoyed it. wasn't blown away but i liked the story and was a good wrap up for the team (hated what they did to adam warlock). Werewolf by Night was brillant and prob the best thing ive seen in a long time. I also rewatched Antman & Wasp Quantum and i get the flaws of the movie, but it def gets wayyyy too much hate, imo.

Hickman's F4/FF and A/NA in their Omnibus tomes are easily my favourite purchase as a hardcover reader.

Sam Raimi didn’t write the script. Michael Waldron did. And he rewrote it, and rewrote it, and rewrote it. The movie famously had massive reshoots. Like Suicide Squad, Justice League level reshoots.

I didn't say you were wrong about the movie having gone through reshoots. I said that it didn't cost as much as those other two examples.

I don't think we'll ever see Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars. Disney isn't going to keep dumping money into movies that tank.

the Infinity Saga and especially Infinity War and Endgame were a masterpiece of a shared universe. The efforts since then have all been meh at best. Lightning isn't going to strike again. And Disney's obsession with wokeness is going to keep turning people off

I expect Disney to pull the plug on the MCU within another 18 months.

RIP, MCU

@knomad - if our Doctor Strange brings back Tony Stark from the remnants of an almost destroyed universe who lost his Pepper Potts, that would be interesting, especially if he’s just as smart as the original.

Stop calling it earth 616 you normie. No matter how much feige will insist on it, the mcu is earth 199999. Just deal with it.

Talking about 616 is talking about the mainline comics universe.

hopefully furiosa will finally take the spotlight away from dr strangeMAN in DS3 and we can finally get a female Doctor Who. it just feels like the right time and we have already had a movie that stared a male doctor strange in the first movie so I think its time he now steps aside and lets the nurse take over. its just...it just finally time now guys.

In the comics Doom gets control of Molecule Man and uses him to defeat the Beyonders and create Battleworld. It would be cool if in the MCU, we find out Doom has control of Wanda and uses her to defeat Kang/Beyonder. It would set Doom up as the next big bad...by defeating the current big bad.

If they play their cards right, they could even make a Young Avengers project adapting Children's Crusade before we get to Secret Wars.
DrReedRichards
DrReedRichards - 8/14/2023, 3:59 PM
@Mother[frick]erJon -

5 bucks says Wanda is the MCU's Molecule Man, with Kang or Doom using her as a multiversal conduit.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 8/14/2023, 4:20 PM
@Mother[frick]erJon - And Owen Reece should be the Beyonder instead of Molecule Man. I'm not the first person to suggest this, but it makes perfect sense considering their shared origin, as told in Fantastic Four #319.

DrReedRichards
DrReedRichards - 8/14/2023, 3:54 PM
Be veeeeery careful how you're gonna treat this one...

That story is a modern classic. Sinner's Market and the Black Priests are some of the best elements in the character's post-2010's lore.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 8/14/2023, 4:24 PM
@DrReedRichards - We're gonna need more than just this one movie I think. They should just start telling this story as soon as they can.
DrReedRichards
DrReedRichards - 8/14/2023, 4:35 PM
@ObserverIO -

I think so too. The rest of the Illuminati play way too pivotal of a part in that story, especially Namor.
