According to Brendan McCarthy, Pixar may do Doctor Strange

Comic artist Brendan McCarthy (Sooner or Later, Spider-Man: Fever, House of Mystery) has stated in a recent interview with Bad Librarianship that Disney and Pixar are considering a CGI Doctor Strange movie.

The British artist and designer best known for his work in comic books, film and television said that he discussed an adaptation of the Marvel Comic during a meeting with Disney.

"I was over in Hollywood... and I had a meeting at Disney and the conversation drifted around to Pixar animating a Doctor Strange movie…" Earlier this year, Marvel commissioned McCarthy to create a new take on Doctor Strange.

McCarthy also revealed that he has pitched a crossover between Vertigo's Sandman and the 'Sorcerer Supreme'. Suh-WEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

So, an animated Doctor Strange movie... by Pixar... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Ant-Man I can see, but Doctor Strange???? The Doc needs to be BIG-BUDGET live-action, not a CGI cartoon. And while I do have faith in Pixar and their work, I think it would be a total misfire FAIL to have Doctor Strange as a cartoon.

What do you think?

I love the idea of the Sandman crossover!

Animated? Nooooo, that's just silly when the live action stuff is doing so well. Would they treat it as in continuity and still have him meet the Avengers in a live actions film? Plus, we already have a animated DVD, and it was really pretty good. Now, if John Carter of Mars is good, Pixar can still make a live action one, I say.

this is old news

also it would be stupid for them to do a cgi Dr Strange movie cause it take years to create the animation. so that mean we will have to wait for more years for a Dr Strange movie.

Pixar would make a [frick]ing brilliant Dr. Strange movie, and the totally tripped-out surrealist art style would translate perfectly to 3D CGI animation. I mean, hell, a live-action Dr. Strange movie would end up being mostly CG anyway. I'd much rather have a well-crafted animated film than a live-action film stretching it's budget with dodgy-CGI.

jazz@ I couldnt agree more

JOHNNY DEPP or JAMES CAVIEZEL as DR. STEPHEN STRANGE

Denn1s@ Agree

Man I really don't understand the resistance to this idea. Pixar has probably the most spotless record in Hollywood. I mean, they've come out with nearly-flawless film after nearly-flawless film for 15 years now. The Incredibles showed that they know how to do superheroes right. I would trust Pixar to do this more than pretty much anyone else outside of Guillermo del Toro, but I wouldn't want him to do it till at least after At the Mountains of Madness (and even then he's got about 100 other movies lined up anyway).

Seriously, who else makes animated films that get BEST PICTURE buzz (even if everyone knows they won't win)? I would be excited about Pixar getting involved with ANY Marvel property, because it guarantees a level of creativity, innovation, and storytelling craft that pretty much no one else can guarantee.

Hell, it could still be set in the Marvel Movie Universe. Why not?

@HelaGood

thank u, the Pet Avengers would work for Pixar thats a good idea.

@AlexDeLarge666

thanks alot Alex, anyway it makes sense they do a Pixar Howard the Duck cgi movie just imagine that it had a small cameo in a background scene of Donald Duck and Scrooge McDuck in Howard the Duck movie.

ok but this article talking about Pixar want to do a animated Dr Strange not live action.

John Carter isn't a Pixar film, it's just directed by Andrew Stanton. It isn't produced by Pixar, and the CGI won't be by Pixar. Brad Bird is directing M:I 4, but that doesn't make it a Pixar film either.

AlexDeLarge87 - 9/15/2010, 6:50 PM
jazz@ GOD!... That would be something!:D

jbak@ Well lets give it a chance then! If they make it in the style of Beowulf and that new Tintin movie it could be interesting!

Depp or Caviezel as Dr. Strange
Daniel Day-Lewis as Baron Mordo
jbak368
jbak368 - 9/15/2010, 6:53 PM
@Alex - Thank you! That attitude ("Let's give it a chance then!") is something severely lacking around here. I understand we all have our own ideas about what we want to see, but we aren't filmmakers. The way I see it, as long as what we get is a great Dr. Strange film, it shouldn't matter if it's live-action or animated. Depp could still totally play Strange. In fact, it'd probably be easier to get him for an animated film (which could feature other Marvel actors as their animated counterparts), and maybe it could eventually lead to Depp starring as live-action Strange.
AlexDeLarge87
AlexDeLarge87 - 9/16/2010, 3:01 AM
jbak@ I couldnt agree more with you.:)... This animation, like i said might be interesting! Especially if they are going the same road like Beowulf and Tintin! It would definitely give it justice! Just imagine what they could do with it! Dr. Strange travelling trough different dimensions and this way we could see more villains in it!... Maybe some superhero cameos too... like Spidey cameo! That would be something!... Maybe they could make a TRILOGY or SAGA filmed back to back!! That would be awesome!! Also it would definitely allow Depp... Or Caviezel... Or even Liam Neeson to play Dr. Strange (With computer they can make Neeson look younger)!... I they make it very dark and doesnt shame to so some blood, like Beowulf!
IT WOULD BE A F*CKING BRILLIANT FILM!!!:D... I wonder who would direct it?
With David Croenenberg or Darren Aronofsky it could be pretty interesting!

And if they someday decide they wanna make a live-action movie about Dr. Strange, i say H*LL YEAH! to that too

The Sandman crossover sounds great. A cgi Dr. Strange movie seems like a disservice to the character. Live action or bust!

I have to say Dr. Strange is the movie I'm most looking forward to seeing and without a doubt there is no other actor for Dr. Strange then Johnny Depp!

Aaron, dude I'll always see Norton as the Hulk and no other super hero. I’d have to say, I rather lose one of the greatest actors out there forever more then not see him as Bruce Banner. The decision not to bring him back is the first screw up Marvel has made and it is a BIG one! I love Dr. Strange and have followed him for years and there is no other actor that can bring him to life like Depp!

Johnny Depp as Doctor Strange. Heck no, that would be an appalling choice. Depp has neither the gravitas nor the detached modesty with whch to pull that off.

Not Johnny Depp, but how about Hugh Laurie for the Dr. Strange role?
