Horror Elements Confirmed For DOCTOR STRANGE 2 As Marvel Sequel Gets Official British Isles Rating

Time ticks ever closer to the release of the hotly anticipated film, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Fans will have to wait a bit longer for any real spoilers to start to trickle out, as the movie making giant has opted to forgo any early screenings and make everyone wait together for the films release.

Long spoken of as being Marvel's first true horror flick, the newly revealed rating from the BBFC seems to drive that point home, giving the film a 12A rating for: "Scenes of horror include demonic beings attacking people; a decomposing corpse being reanimated; people being burned by magical powers, leaving charred remains; and multiple 'jump scares'. There are also frequent scenes of threat, in which people are pursued by demonic entities and monsters, or threatened with magical torture."

Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige has been quick to clarify former director Scott Derrickson's "Horror" comments, often repeating to fans and news outlets that he "wouldn’t necessarily say that’s a horror film, but...it’ll be a big MCU film with scary sequences in it."

Despite attempts by the Marvel Czar himself to temper horror expectations, Multiverse of Madness star Elizebeth Olsen spoke recently of her time working with Derrickson's replacement on the film, famed director Sam Raimi. "Sam [Raimi]’s become known for this terrorizing cinema experience," Olsen aid in a recently released featurette. "He’s creating as much tension as possible for the audience, just ready for them to have that jump scare moment."

The Doctor Strange sequel was recently given a PG-13 rating here in United States, which is the US equivelant of the BBFC's 12A. It sounds like this film might be one for parents to view independently of small children before deciding to take them to the theater.

In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Michael Waldron.

The Doctor Strange sequel releases in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2022.

@MosquitoFarmer - Kevin Feige saying it would remind people of Evil Dead 2...yeah, I think that will come back to bite him in the ass.

@MosquitoFarmer - It will not be anything like a horror movie. Horror wannabe to give the media something to fawn over.

Good. It's rated gooblishanks. One more utterance of bloody hell and it would've been rated blimey! And once that happens a reel of the film is to be sent to the queen to play during their royal tea party/orgy.

It's a more proper rating system.
