Benedict Cumberbatch Reveals His Pick To Direct A Prospective DOCTOR STRANGE Sequel

After the first movie's success, we can assume that Doctor Strange will get a sequel at some stage. In a new interview, Benedict Cumberbatch reveals who he'd most like to see in the director's chair...

Doctor Strange had a great big-screen debut, ending its theatrical run with more than $675 mln globally, and it was loved by both critics and audiences alike. We still don't have official confirmation from Marvel Studios that a sequel is on the way, but it doesn't stop Cumberbatch from naming the director he'd most like to see in charge of the franchise's future. As you can probably guess, it's Scott Derrickson.

The Sherlock star feels that the director of movies like Sinister and Deliver Us From Evil proved that he's suited for the job and can adapt his style to the conditions of making comic-book flicks: "I mean this was a much harder shoot in many ways than I imagine some of the other origin stories had been. They're all hard, not to detract from the hard work that they put in, but my point is that there was a massively fast turn around. So he was having to edit and approve special effects shots at the same time as setting up these huge sequences live and getting the camera and angles and performances and visuals right on the day".

Cumberbatch also expressed his admiration for Derrickson's unique approach to the supernatural and mind-bending multiverse; "So he was double tasking in a pretty full on way and then he was, for someone who's done stuff to do stuff with the supernatural before but never, as he'd be the first to admit I'm sure, never quite on this scale. He had to do it all with great skill and the results are on the screen. So yeah I think this film speaks to why Scott would be a great choice to direct it again..." - Cumberbatch concluded.

Unsurprisingly, Benedict is not the only one who want to see Derrickson sitting on the director's chair again - however, the big question is, does the he want to return?

Do you agree with Cumbarbatch and think that Derrickson should direct the sequel? Be sure to leave your thoughts down below!

Derrickson will most likely come back for the next one, there's no reason for him not to. Hope he brings Cargill back to co-write.

Also hope they bring Giacchino back to do the music. His Strange theme is probably my personal favorite solo hero theme in the MCU so far.

@TheNewGuy123 - forget it dude it's not working. I was trying to link to the captain America march from the first avenger. Still the best MCU score in my opinion.

I like the Doctor Strange theme, particular the bit that played during his Dormammu time warping... but it leans too heavily on Star Trek; Into Darkness and sadly that was the part of the theme i liked the best.

@TheNewGuy123 - Star Spangled Man With A Plan, is probably my favorite original MCU song. That whole sequence is still one of my favorite moments in the MCU. There have been some good themes. I think it's mostly because a lot of these characters are being brought to the masses, whereas super heroes like Batman and Superman, have already had popularity and outings, so when they introduced the Elfman and Williams themes, it elevates two already popular characters.

@TheNewGuy123 - Captain America March is the best theme in the entire MCU

Jones: "I think eventually throughout the series he kind of claims some kind of identity through his clothes, but really, I know what you’re trying to say here, but we’ve got a couple more seasons to go before we get to that point."

Question at hand "So you mentioned we’ve seen a little kind of like adapted Colleen look already. What were the conversations around approaching or adapting or circumventing the very traditional look of Iron Fist as a character?"

I'd love for Derrickson to helm a trilogy. He's a huge fan of the character and source material, embracing every part of him. I'm sure Marvel knows that and he will be back.

It has to be Derrickson.

@Jaspion - I think Marvel finally responded to their villain criticsms with this movie. We will finally get a properly developed villain in Mordo in the 2nd or 3rd film....couldn't be more excited...

If a director is excellent for whatever MCU film that will have sequels, they might as well stick around for a whole trilogy of that character.
