DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Features Some Of The Most Shockingly Violent Moments In MCU History - SPOILERS

With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness now playing in most locations, we're taking a look at the more shocking moments in Sam Raimi's sequel - and there are quite a few of 'em! Spoilers ahead.

Warning: If you haven't seen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness yet, major spoilers follow from this point on.

When it was announced that Sam Raimi would be taking over directing duties on Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange sequel, fans hoped that the Evil Dead helmer would bring his signature style and horror sensibilities to the film, and he doesn't disappoint. While it wouldn't be accurate to describe In The Multiverse of Madness as a horror film, it definitely contains some surprisingly creepy - not to mention shockingly violent - moments.

As you may have guessed, The Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) is the perpetrator of most of the carnage. Wanda makes it clear to Strange that he doesn't want to see her unreasonable side early on, and she wasn't exaggerating.

When Strange and America Chavez find themselves captured by The Illuminati in an alternate reality, Wanda possesses the body of one of her Multiverse counterparts and launches an all-out assault on their headquarters. After dispatching an army of Ultron sentries, The Scarlet With comes face-to-face with Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), and Black Bolt (Anson Mount).

They never stood a chance!

Wanda proceeds to murder every one of the heroes in some pretty disturbing ways. She removes Black Bolt's mouth, causing the top of his head to explode when he tries to speak, before shredding Reed Richards into strips. The Captains put up more of a fight, but Carter is ultimately sliced in half by her own shield, while Marvel is crushed by a falling pillar.

When Wanda reaches Chavez, Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) stands in her way, but even the most powerful mutant on the planet is no match for the Scarlet Witch, who follows him when he enters her mind and manages to snap his neck.

Yeah... The Illuminati don't stick around too long! The nature of the Multiverse means we could see other Variants of these characters down the line, of course, but this was still a somewhat unnervingly brutal end for the team.

We don't know if this is a sign of things to come in The MCU (there's a chance they simply indulged Raimi here), but it's a wonder some of this stuff scraped by the censors.

What did you guys make of this sequence and the movie overall? Check out our review here, and drop us a comment down below.

With what she did in Wandavision, and now this, I dont see how Wanda can be redeemed.

"While it wouldn't be accurate to describe In The Multiverse of Madness as a horror film"

Derrickson clearly walked because he wanted a character study horror film. I don't doubt he was told after the first film that he would be allowed more freedom to really do his thing with Dr Strange in the sequel.

@McMurdo - Its pretty clear now he wanted to make a horror Dr Strange solo movie.

@McMurdo - Did Scott Derrickson tell you this?

@TheHumanSpider2 - in fairness though, Derrickson is also responsible for one of the singlehandedly worst and most sacrilegious remakes of all time

@McMurdo - I feel like marvel did want to make a horror film, but a Raimi style horror film is a much better fit for the MCU than a derrickson horror film. Evil Dead 2 and Sinister are both horror movies, but Raimi’s style of horror is very kinetic, fast paced, and fun.

Wanda is too powerful!!! They need to depower her somehow!

@Forthas - And yet she’s still small fry next to Phoenix.

@PlusUltra - I am not too sure about that. Being able to alter reality on a whim...what is more powerful than that?

@Forthas - Phoenix, the Destroyer of Realities.
Forthas
Forthas - 5/4/2022, 9:16 PM
@PlusUltra - Theoretically, Wanda can destroy reality!
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 5/4/2022, 9:26 PM
@Forthas - Yeah, we’re not talking theoretically when it comes to Phoenix.

Phoenix could destroy the entire multiverse on whim, if it wanted, and there’s only one across all realities. At its peak, with Jean as its host, it’s an omniversal level threat. Wanda isn’t. Even Elder gods, like Chthon, who created the Darkhold, shit scared of Phoenix.

@PlusUltra - definitely in the comics but the MCU we will see what they do with Jean

@TheHumanSpider2 - that's the rational reality based answer to that question. But that's also the biggest cop out ever. We all know there would be winners and lovers based on stats and character personalities and their history. That's the fun of being a comic nerd, imagining.

@ElricReturns - Yeah, its fun arguing about "power levels" or "my favorite character would beat yours", etc, reminds me when I was a kid...however, when these discussions start to get serious, I always post that clip, is perfect.

My problem with this sequence is that once plot armor is removed these powerful characters are just dispatches with relative ease. If she can do this then Strange and Wong shouldn’t be putting up any kind of fight either. And while the Illuminati are kinda dicks you don’t really want to see this either.

@RealTurner - This scene was just depressing . I dont want to see hayley atwell and jim die. I wish they survived abd helped strange and return to their universe.

TheHumanSpider2 - 5/4/2022, 9:07 PM
@RealTurner - I mean, she takes down Black Bolt, Charles, and Reed easily, but CAPTAIN CARTER is able to hold her own? lol, what?

@TheHumanSpider2 - captain Carter was a strategist, you can see her sneak from the smoke behind Wanda..just like the Batman..
RealTurner
RealTurner - 5/5/2022, 8:23 AM
@Gaymaninwoods - Yeah I feel the same way. It's unsettling to see the "heroes" die so easily, and they pushed Witches' powers off the charts but in such an uneven way. If she can make your mouth completely vanish none of this other stuff should be happening. BUT I really enjoyed the movie, with slightly lowered expectations (it really is only slightly bigger than the trailer makes it look, rather than super massive and crazy) it is a great time.

@solskulldeath - So was Steve, and he wasnt able to hold his own against Thanos, and Wanda is even stronger than Thanos.

Maybe she won’t be, she might be on a path to becoming a villain.
Also now we have a multiverse, they could have her get replaced with a variant who has same history, but didn’t chose a dark path, this ‘redeeming’ her so to speak
