Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released to positive reviews last year, and while it wasn't quite as crazy as some fans expected, it still served as a fun glimpse into the MCU's Multiverse. Sam Raimi's unique approach to filmmaking also gave this adventure a vastly different feel, though it's become clear the story evolved greatly from page to screen.

At one point, the movie opened with Mordo being beheaded by the Scarlet Witch, while Nightmare was also strongly considered as an antagonist.

That was likely in place of the Scarlet Witch as there was a time she was going to be Doctor Strange's ally rather than his enemy. In some new concept art shared on ArtStation by Thomas du Crest, we see the former Sorcerer Supreme joined by Wong, Mordo, and Wanda Maximoff in "the Incursion Universe."

However, as du Crest explains, "At that point, it was more of a desert filled with dead Strange variants." More dead Stranges means zombie Variants, and while that was a concept which did make it into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we'd have loved to see this undead army rise up to battle the heroes.

"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a one of a kind blockbuster experience and a pure, unadulterated Sam Raimi movie that, while not quite the crazy ride through the Multiverse we expected, delivers a fun, horror-tinged trip," we said in our review of the sequel last year.

There's no official word on a Doctor Strange 3 right now, but this movie ended with a cliffhanger that seemingly set the stage for one. However, there's always a chance Strange and Clea's team-up will be picked up on in movies like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Wish we could’ve seen what Scott Derrickson was cooking up, or at least know what the original draft was like.

@Killuminatic - Same. I think his movie would really have been about Doctor Strange himself.

@Killuminatic - From what we heard, it was a character study with some horror elements, they were going to explore not only how lonely Strange feels despite being...well, what he is, but also his past...in the final movie, things like "are you happy, Stephen?" or the mention or his sister are mentioned and never explored.

@TheHumanSpider2 - Thank Michael Waldron and his shitty script for that my friend.

Steve Derrickson should have directed this movie. It seem like he knew where he wanted the story to go next but then the K.E.V.I.N robots algorithm decided what we really wanted was something else 🙄

That Zombie Strange concept art looks even creepier than what we got. I honestly wish this movie went full bore into it's horror elements and disturbing imagery but ofc K.E.V.I.N doesn't want the general audience to feel scared or uncomfortable in a Marvel movie. It's supposed to be family fun for all ages.

What they did with Derrickson and Raimi original visions is a CRIME.

@TheHumanSpider2 - It sucks man. They let Taika have almost full control on LaT and we got a disaster, if they let both Derrickson and Raimi have full reigns then we would have gotten something beautiful.

@FilmGuy7878 - Imagine Raimi having full directorial control over Derrickson's script.
I dont hate this movie, but I hate the potential we lost.

This was how Derrickson's Doctor Strange sequel was going to look like.
