DOCTOR STRANGE: IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Enlists A New Writer In LOKI Scribe Michael Waldron

After seemingly landing a new director in Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Evil Dead), Marvel Studios has now enlisted a new writer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in Loki showrunner Michael Waldron.

Hot on the heels of this week's big director news, Marvel Studios has enlisted Loki head writer Michael Waldron to rewrite the script for their highly anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will feature the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme.

Jade Halley Bartlett penned the film's original draft.

While negotiations with Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi are still ongoing, it appears things are trending in the right direction and Raimi will indeed take the helm of the Doctor Strange sequel, which is expected to begin production in May of this year - although with a new director and writer just coming on-board this week, it remains to be seen whether filming will be pushed back to allow the pair more time to prep.

In addition to Cumberbatch, the fillm's cast is expected to bring back a number of familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong as Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo.

Rachel McAdams, however, will not reprise her role as Dr. Christine Palmer.

Plot details remain locked away at the Sanctum Sanctorum for now, but Nightmare is rumored to serve as the villain of the picture.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will conjure its way into theaters May 7, 2021.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - believe me they will. He’s already handled every facet of filmmaking they are looking for.

This is a good sign I guess. I'm sure Raimi will bring certain changes with him.

@BlackBeltJones - Yeah, I assume he's being added to work on the script to incorporate ideas from the new director.

@BlackBeltJones - Supposedly from what I saw online. Derrickson wasn't interested in having Wanda come in because he was focused on making a sequel to Doctor Strange and not a sequel to Avengers Endgame.

@SonOfAGif - I’ve heard that and my thinking is Derrickson should’ve understood that this is an intertwining universe. I personally think Wanda and Strange teaming up is a great thing and something fans have wanted.

It’s possible to make a sequel and have it work as one to Endgame and the first Strange. Maybe he didn’t think so, idk.

@SonOfAGif - Supposedly... you mean people just running a false narrative ? That rumor isn't even a rumor, just people making stuff up and idiots running with it and believing it. Truth is, we don't know exactly why Derrickson left. And the only facts we have is Derrickson complaining about crunch and release dates and creative differences. He knew Wanda was going to be in it from 2-3 years ago, he even hinted at that, you think that would be the issue? Nah. The one rumor that makes the most sense is that Feige wanted this movie to be real good and clashed with Scott on his vision and script so Scott bounced, or was forced to bounce. Which would explain the script changes. And I doubt Scarlet Witch is going to be co lead. She will just feature... maybe a la Hulk. At the end of the day, it's Dr Stranges film. Not Wandas.

i know Marvel likes to move folks up in-house but i wonder if these Dis+ writers being tasked with doing movie scripts is not just a sign of confidence in their writing but also for continuity purposes.

@HeraldNumber7 - I was just about to comment about the Disney+ writers moving to the movie side before the shows even debuted.

I thought confidence, I didn't even think of continuity. That's a great analysis of the situation

@HeraldNumber7 - That's what I totally see happening here. There's less visible seems between projects and I think it'll help with this overal story.

right. spinning all these individual plates is difficult enough on top of opening the pandora's box of a multiverse.

@HeraldNumber7 -

I think Feige saw how well Winter Soldier, Civil War, and Infinity War/Endgame turned out with the same writers (Markus and McFeeley) he'll prob try to duplicate the cohesiveness within this story arc (which I'm guessing will be one tasked with bringing in the Fox properties as well as moving the Dr. Strange story forward.

@HeraldNumber7 - Ever since hearing about Disney+ I have thought it would be a good proving ground to vet out writers/directors/actors before they make the jump to the big screen.

I've heard news that there's the possibility of another Writer's Strike brewing in Hollywood, so everyone wants to get deals signed and productions underway ASAP just in case.
