DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Included The MCU's First Reference To Doctor Doom

Another Easter Egg in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been discovered, and it's a confirmed reference to a villain many fans are anxious to see in the MCU: Victor Von Doom! Check it out...

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced Earth-838's Illuminati, and the debut of John Krasinski as Mister Fantastic made a lot of fans very happy. It's unclear whether The Office alum will reprise the role in Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four reboot, but if this was it for him, there's no denying the actor's cameo was a memorable one.

Talking during the Director's Commentary for the sequel (via The Direct), director Sam Raimi credited Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige with making Krasinski's involvement a reality, saying he was looking for a way to make the dreams of fans come true with this casting. Whether that was a one-time thing or the plan for the MCU moving forward obviously remains to be seen for now.

Regardless, when Reed Richards joined his fellow Illuminati members, it was through a teleportation device many fans believe might have been a nod to how the TVA travelled through time in Loki

Instead, it was the MCU's first Doctor Doom reference.

"It’s exciting that costume designed by Ryan Meinerding, is a really special treat," co-producer Richie Palmer chimes in. "The detail of the teleportation device he uses to get into the scene is something we took from the comics, that’s Doctor Doom’s Time Platform."

This more directly connects Doctor Doom and Kang the Conqueror, two characters who have an awful lot of history in the comic books. There are many conflicting stories about their connection, with Kang sometimes believing himself to be a descendant of Doom. They've both utilised the same technology, though, so you can probably see how that Time Platform might come into play.

In the MCU, Kang may have stolen the Platform from Doom or even used his early ideas to master the ability to travel through the Multiverse. On this specific world, though, Reed appears to have taken it and found a way to turn it into a simple teleportation device. Ultimately, it's a fascinating Easter Egg, and one that we expect to see revisited in some form down the line.

While Doom ended up being treated appallingly in the last three Fantastic Four movies, the expectation is that Marvel Studios will do something with the villain quite soon. There have been rumblings of a Disney+ series or even a cameo in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but it's time for the villain to step out of the shadows and establish himself as a major threat in this world.

@regularmovieguy - That panel looks like they were caught unaware while Salsa dancing.

Doom was obvious leading.

@GhostDog - What exactly does "there must also come" add you think?

@OmegaBlack13 - hmmm

I think it’s inferring that a lot comes with great power but that also great power must be accompanied by a great responsibility

@OmegaBlack13 -

The word "comes" alone implies immediate consequence, whereas the entire "there must also come" implies a sense of duty instead.

@OmegaBlack13 -
Responsibility is a choice. Power without responsibility leads to bad things.

@DrReedRichards - Okay cool I like that. Thanks!

Seen other YouTubers like MrSundayMovies point this out, though my first thought were the teleporting doorways from Loki. Perhaps this is what Reed or Nathaniel or Valeria use to repurpose into the TVA's time-warping panels?

I know it's a little ridiculous to say this when talking about one of the smartest minds in the world of Marvel, but I always prefer to see technology that's a bit more tangible and believable on screen.

I'm hoping they can strike some balance with that in future appearances of the character.

@Fares -

Won't disagree with that. Victor's tech always had more of a steampunk appeal to it, while Reed's was always more field-based and theoretical.

@Fares - Well just by having him using a small device to control such crazy tech did have precisely that effect on me.

Sounded like what a wireless car key would look like to someone from 100 years ago.

@DrReedRichards - I might find it more tolerable on the page since there is no CGI there if you know what I mean. Everything is as real as anything else in the world of the comics. But I don't find it to translate that well on screen.
At the very least, I'd like them to frame it, show its limitations, the source of it, the machines behind it like how a projector is the source of an image on the wall.

@Fogs - Yeah I can get that sort of perspective. It's funny because we always seem to miss with our predictions of how the future will look like. 2015 certainly wasn't the same as it is in Back to The Future.

@Fares - Hahah totally. It's pretty lame to watch those sci-fi movies, we seem so dumb not to have flying cars around :P

@Fares - 100% this is why I prefered Favreau's Iron Man tech over the subsequent models.

My headcanon was that the TVA was using Doom's time platform, or at least based their tech on Doom's.

Did any of us say “Oooh, that’s Doom’s teleportation technology”, when we seen Doc Strange 2? I know I didn’t.
