DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS: More Details On Rumored Fox Cameo And The MCU's Illuminati

Over the past 24 hours, we've been hearing that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will feature a big cameo from Fox's Marvel Universe, and we now have details on that and the MCU's Illuminati...

By JoshWilding - Aug 27, 2021 03:08 AM EST

Yesterday, reports surfaced which claimed that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will see the Scarlet Witch squaring off with a character from Fox's now-defunct Marvel Universe. It was later reported that this mysterious individual will be Professor X, a potential game-changer for the MCU depending on how his debut is handled (particularly when it comes to the introduction of mutants).

We've all been wondering who will play this version (Variant?) of Charles Xavier, but Variety's Kris Tapley has since strongly hinted that it will be Patrick Stewart. This actually lines up with previous comments from the actor after he talked about meeting with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

@ViewerAnon (who has become something of a semi-reliable scooper on social media in recent months) has also weighed in, saying: "Wanda is the villain of the movie and she does have a confrontation with Xavier (and Captain Carter among others)." Interestingly, he adds that Hugh Jackman was wanted for this role "[to] get his ass decimated" by Wanda, but those talks didn't pan out.

He's also shared some insight into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' plans to introduce the Illuminati, claiming to have learned which characters will make up that group in the MCU.

Apparently, it will consist of Professor X, Captain Carter, Balder the Brave, Monica Rambeau, and Mordo. We're not entirely sure about this one, as it's hard to imagine how all those characters could be brought together in the Doctor Strange sequel (especially as we've never seen Balder before now).

We'll see. As always, everything you read here is just a rumour for now and should be taken with a pinch of salt. Still, it's hard not to be excited about what could be the MCU's craziest movie to date.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released in theaters on March 25, 2022.

If Xavier is in it, i think it will either be Pat Stew or a new actor. Feige is a confessed fan of Patrick and was involved in the original X-Men film. There is really no incentive for the studio to have McAvoy be back.

My preference would be a new actor simply because i really don't like the Fox-Men films. But whatever happens, i trust Feige and more than that i trust Raimi.

@TheManWithoutFear - " i think it will either be Pat Stew or a new actor"

So that covers... Every living actor except James McAvoy?

Okay, if this "vieweranon" person is saying that is the group that will make up the Illiminati then I don't believe a single word coming from his filthy mouth.

Why even do the Illuminati of that's who it will be? Absolutely terrible.

When No Way Home ends and Doctor Strange’s spell completely wiped Spider-Man out of the MCU so Sony could take him and put him in their mediocre Venom movies

Ok, I really don't like Patrick Stewart in this. He had such a great send off in Logan.

Man I just really don't care for Captain Carter.

Not sure how people would react to Professor X dying again, unless it's McAvoy and not Stewart.

I'm not buying it. And also, why put the name in the article now and not in the previous one?

But if they ever do the Illuminati, I'm hoping it's not with that line-up. I think they should just take the original comic line-up, but replace Tony Stark with Rhodey and Black Bolt with Ikaris.

Absolutely insane lineup if true. I feel like the way to go is use the original 6 minus Stark. Maybe Black Bolt, depending on what they’re doing with Inhumans can be replaced with Ikaris, depending on if Eternals ends with them getting more involved. Since part of Black Bolt’s role is filling the hidden society archetype it makes a bit of sense for somebody from Wakanda to come in here.

Honestly Stark’s role as the representative of the Avengers-type/government superhero kinda feels superfluous in this version so his replacement is sort of a wildcard. My only idea would be someone tied more directly to the government like Everett Ross or Hill or even Fury. Although I guess this is where Monica Rambeau would make sense I think a better choice would be Abigail Brand because controlling stuff is already kinda her thing.

As much as I love him I really hope we don’t get 80 year old Patrick Stewart for the MCU. His Xavier got a nice send off let’s leave it alone. Recast McAvoy or get fresh blood. I hope they stay within his age range at least. When the X-Men first come on the scene Xavier isn’t supposed to be an old man, he was like 35-40 in those original comics.
