DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS On Track To Open With Massive $150+ Million This Weekend

Unsurprisingly, all signs are pointing to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness being a huge box office hit, with a massive opening weekend that could go as high as $200 million. Check it out...

Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Batman have proven that superheroes continue to rule the box office in this post-COVID era, and while Morbius admittedly went the other way by flopping, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looks set to conjure up big numbers this weekend.

According to Deadline, the sequel is on track to open with at least $150 million. However, there's a very good chance it could go as high as $175 million - $200 million from Thursday to Monday.

Apparently, Fandango is currently selling 5x as many tickets as Doctor Strange (which debuted to $85 million), and besting the presales of Marvel Studios blockbusters like Thor: Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Captain Marvel. The former Sorcerer Supreme's popularity has grown massively since he first showed up in 2016, especially after multiple MCU appearances.

Strange featured in the last two Avengers movies and Spider-Man: No Way Home, of course.

"'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' will reshape the way we experience comic book movies moving forward," exclaims Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis. "Fans can’t wait to see what magic director Sam Raimi has in store for them as he delivers an epic spectacle that needs to be seen on the biggest screen possible."

You may have heard that there have been some pretty noteworthy leaks from the movie over the past couple of days, but they have only served to increase excitement. We'd recommend not hunting them down as we're talking about moments that are definitely best experienced on a big screen.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in theaters on May 6.

It'll go higher. Those "leaks" yesterday were intentional and used to drive that number up.

@inkniron - this one was always going to be a D+ viewing for me but if I was going to watch it in then theater, that leak might have changed my mind

I’m cautiously optimistic about this movie. I’ll not expecting a Sam Raimi movie, I’m expecting a Marvel movie with some Sam Raimi elements.

@HorseWengh - That is how Sam himself described it...

I watched a clip on Facebook just now that showed some really really really bad editing errors. Like the same man running by Doctor Strange literally 4 different times in the same sequence, and America taking cover behind Strange twice in the same sequence. I'm worried they might be rushing this film out.

@ElricReturns - I am too. Hopefully it's entertaining at least.

@ElricReturns - We know that Marvel loves to hide stuff in clips and use alternate takes for trailers. It wouldn't surprise me if the whole sequence is very different in the final film and those editing errors aren't actually in the movie.

@ElricReturns - Most, if not all, movies have backround continuity errors like that guy with the briefcase. Martin Scorsese himself is infamous for not giving a crap about continuity errors in his shots.

@ElricReturns - wouldn’t be first time they rushed movie

@ElricReturns - Continuity errors are very very common, specially in big movies with a lot of extras. That has nothing to do with "rushing", it's completely normal.

@dragon316 - You're right. Warner Bros have rushed many.

@Moriakum - while you are certainly correct, editing errors due to rushing isn't uncommon with these big films. But you and the others aren't wrong either.

"The MCU is dead after Endgame"

@lordSTALE - I mean, Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and Eternals weren't exactly on par with the overall Phase 3 box office successes, but then there were also 2 Spidey movies making a combined $3 billion alone. No doubt people will always find something to fuel their MCU downfall phantasies, though.

@lordSTALE - “Do you see how ridiculous the mindset of referring to "introducing new characters to the sandbox" as DLC is now?”

No. They all played a vital role in the trajectory within the first 3 phases, and we had a trajectory all laid out during their introductions.

I used terms like “seemingly,” as well as “I’m trusting the process” for a reason. They’re not showing us where things are going at this point, and a lot of people are still calming down after EG. We can fan guess all day long, but until they play one of their cards to show us where we’re going, it’s kind of just Mephistoing our way through these shows and movies. I hope Doc Strange changes that this week. And maybe Moon Knight will add to things too. *crosses fingers*
