DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Producer Teases Professor X And Future Plans For The Illuminati

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness producer Richie Palmer has weighed in on those big theories surrounding both Professor X and the Illuminati, and it sounds likes some big surprises are in store.

In the latest trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a familiar voice could be heard suggesting "We should tell him the truth." The assumption among fans is that a version of the Illuminati made up of Variants who have assembled to protect the Multiverse captured Strange and that it was Sir Patrick Stewart's Professor X who wanted to tell Stephen more about what's going on.

During a recent interview with Empire Online, the movie's producer, Richie Palmer, was quick to point out that just because we think we know who that is...well, there could still be some surprises.

"I’ll quote the first X-Men movie and say, 'Are you sure you saw what you saw?'" he said with a laugh. "There are infinite versions of these characters, and just because you may have heard something familiar doesn’t mean it’s someone you have seen before."

So, as expected, this won't be the Charles Xavier we saw in movies like X-Men, X-Men: Day of Future Past, and Logan. As for the rest of this supposed Illuminati, there are plenty of rumours about who the other members could be. Palmer, however, seemed to hint that the group we see in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness won't necessarily be that group as there may be future plans for them.

"As you saw in Spider-Man: No Way Home, some rumors ended up being true, some did not," the producer notes. "I would love to see Tony again, but some rumours are just rumours. I will say that I love the Illuminati. But if we ever introduce the Illuminati in the future, it might be more MCU-driven and have some more ties to our characters in the MCU, versus just replicating what’s in the comics."

Intriguing, eh? In the comic books, the Illuminati was a group of characters in the Marvel Universe who teamed up to pull the strings from the shadows and do what they must to keep Earth safe. There's definitely room for a group like that in the MCU, but a version that protects the entire Multiverse might make more sense given how this shared world appears to be expanding now.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released in theaters on May 6, later this year!

Using a specific quote from the movie the character is in to say that character isn't in our film is a really odd way to say this character isn't in our film.

@ElricReturns - Not really, it's just on topic with the question

"[...] it might be more MCU-driven and have some more ties to our characters in the MCU, versus just replicating what’s in the comics."

Also appliccable to (and to the detriment of) comics themselves, more often than not.

What if the X-Men that come in the MCU are just variants from the Fox-verse?

Makes sense to me the characters that are brought back through actors that played before aren't necessarily those actual character. Electro was definitely a variant of the 2014 version (I guess so because of the hairline)

@bkmeijer - Are the NWH villains in MCU variants of their own movies? I thought they were variants but still the same as the ones in their films. Electro talked about how he liked what he looked like in the MCU. I took that as some kind of a transformation from the universe hopping.

@Vanillain - I'm not sure, since I haven't actually seem NWH yet. I'm kinda assuming here

I'm pretty sure Wanda will say a variation of *no more mutants* . Maybe she will say *mutants* and all of them appear

@AmazingFILMporg - I think we’ll find out that she already did at some point in the past and altered the timeline we’ve seen all along.

@Deklipz - exactly!

@AmazingFILMporg - I never got this theory. Why would she just say "mutants"? Does she even know what a (X-men style) mutant is?

@Luigi - If it happened in the past and altered the MCU we’ve been seeing since the beginning, she would have known what ‘mutants’ are because they would have been around and part of the world (publicly at least) since maybe… the 60’s or whatever. Time rolls on with X-men stuff happening until Wanda comes along, has some traumatizing experience at the hands of another mutant or due to a mutant related event and she says the ‘no more mutants’ line. THEN the MCU as we know it is born as she wipes mutants and their influence on the world away, it’s still there, she just warped reality to put it away. Then her and her brother are experimented on and the staff/stone awakens their latent mutant abilities but since mutants and their history has been erased they’re just labeled as ‘special’. From there we walk through the MCU as we know it until now, when Strange is shown how Wanda fractured reality. Just a thought. Could also be nightmare manipulating Wanda or Strange into believing that all or none of what we’ve seen is true at all.
